Adventures of the last Wild Dragon-Chapter 216: Teams and Dungeons
The night passed by uneventfully much to the adventurer’s relief, with the morning came a quick but hearty breakfast before the girls exited the hut and gathered with the rest of the adventures in front of the dungeon entrance.
The entrance itself was a strange thing, at first it looked like a well lit tunnel enterance, yet upon closer inspection the truth became clear. It was true that the entrance was the beginning of a tunnel, yet with the formation of its dungeon core the entrance had been effectively sealed off with a glowing iridescent barrier of mana.
The barrier was mostly white, yet it contained hints of deep blues and vibrant oranges.
In front of the enterance stood the leader of the expedition, Odrin. He stood as tall as his dwarves form would allow, his overly large crossbow slung across his back.
"Alrighty, so a couple of things before you all rush off. The dungeon restricts party size to six people, so arrange your teams accordingly. As for you solo delvers I would strongly recommend that you join up with an exsisting party, I won’t stop you delving solo but if you die on there then it’s all on you!"
His words caused some grumbles, particularly from one group in particular that consisted of 8 members. Odrin gave the adventures some time to go about reorganising and getting themselves into their new teams.
As that was going on a heavily armoured figure approached Violet and her group. When they were a short distance away and noted that the girls had turned to look at her inquisitively they spoke in a feminine tone.
"Umm hello, umm I don’t exactly have a party, so... umm I was hoping, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble if I could umm... join you?" The armoured girl, for she most definitely was a girl stumbled her way through her request, her head angled down as if she was unable to make eye contact with the girls before her.
Violet was confused at first, she had never seen someone stumble over words quite as much as this girl, especially not for someone so heavily armoured. From her experience, which was granted quite limited. People with heavy armour tended to either be silent and stoic or overly boisterous, not as seemingly meek and I confident as this person.
Whilst Violet was contemplating that Luna spoke up for them. "Umm we didn’t exactly plan on having anyone else join us, but maybe? Can you tell us what you specialise in? That might help us make a decision."
The girl briefly looked up to meet their gaze, Violet caught a quick flash of vibrant green eyes before she quickly looked back down. "I-I’m a defender, I’m g-good at stoping things from getting past me. Umm I also have some buffing skills, umm, that’s about it..."
The poor girl sounded absolutely terrified for whatever reason and the four girls shared a look between them. Eyebrows were raised and silent communications shared.
"I say let’s give her a shot, if it turns out she isn’t worth bringing along then we can just return here and ask her to leave. Besides she is just adorable." Susan shared her thoughts over the mental bridge that Violet had quickly put up between them.
Rhyana nodded at her companions words agreeing to the sentiment. "Hmm we do lack a dedicated front line defender, it probabally would t hurt to give it a go." Luna commented.
"Alright let’s see what she can do then." Violet agreed, turning to face the girl before them and speaking out loud. "Alright, you can join us. But, if it turns out you don’t fit we will just return here and head back in by ourselves."
As she laid out the conditions the girl looked up once more, her emerald eyes flashing with an emotion that Violet was unable to read. Then her helmed head once more ducked back down, averting her eyes once more.
"Yes! Thank you, thank you, I promise I won’t be a disappointment!" At least she sounded enthusiastic Violet mused.
"Alright well then some introductions will be in order I suppose. I’m Luna, this is here is Violet, Rhyana and Susan." As she spoke she pointed to each of the girls in turn. "What’s your name? Also if it’s not rude to ask but what race might you be? You seem a touch too tall to be a dwarf..."
"Umm hello, I-it’s nice to meet you all... and umm I’m, my name is Olivia. umm and it’s a-alright I don’t mind sharing. I’m a human" Olivia managed to explain after a while.
This caught both Violet and Luna’s attention, as neither of them had met a human yet. They had only encountered beastkin, elves and dwarves. So they were pleasantly surprised to meet a human, especially since they tended to live outside of the Endless Forest.
Naturally they knew that whilst it was a human kingdom that wiped out the dragons years ago, neither girl held a grudge against all humans, no that would be silly. They were maybe a touch biased against them, but they would not hold such a thing against an entire race, that would just make them as bad as the people who did that horrible thing.
After they recovered from the surprise Violet spoke once again. "Oh that’s cool, I haven’t met a human before! Nice to meet you Olivia hope we get along!" She was once more back to her energetic self. Naturally Violet had been feeling the girl out with her senses, yet her instincts were surprisingly silent, indicating that she posed no true threat or malice against them all.
"Well shall we head on into the dungeon then? Or do you need to gather anything?" Susan asked Olivia.
She jolted slightly at being addressed again, yet soon answered in her usual shy manner. "Umm no, I-I have everything I need... thank you."
"Alright then, let’s go!" Violet cheered and began to walk forward.
As the now 5 girls approached the dungeon, Odrin spoke up. "Alright you 5 are going in together?" At the girls nods he pulled out a notepad and pencil before looking up at them. "Alright I just need your names then your good to go."
Shrugging at that they quickly gave their names to the man as he noted them down. Once he was done he waved them on. "Umm why do you need our names?" Asked Luna.
"Hmm, oh so incase any of you die I know what team you are apart of. It’s just a formality for first time dungeon explorations, don’t think nothing of it lassy. No go on get!" He explained before shooing them away.
Shrugging once more the girls approached the dungeon enterance. "So we are all supposed to enter within 10 seconds of the first one through to be counted as part of the same party right?" Questioned Rhyana.
"Umm hmm, so who goes first?" Asked Susan.
"Ohh me! Me! I wanna go first!" Cried Violet as she bounced in excitement, only to get bonked on the head by Luna.
"No silly, either me or Olivia should go first, we have the highest defense so will be fine if we get ambushed when we enter."
Violet grumbled at that but understanding the logic behind the statement she nodded her acceptance as she rubbed the top of her head.
"Alright, Olivia, you and me will go in first, everyone else wait a second then rush in after okay?" Luna stated to the group, after receiving nods from everyone she straightened up, summoned a ice shield and sword and together with Olivia strode into the dungeon.
As soon she passed through the barrier Violet suddenly felt like Luna had travelled a vast distance as their bond suddenly became extremely weak. Where normally Violet could tell the direction and distance that Luna was from her, right now she was unable to even guess which direction she was in based solely on the bond.
It was a slightly disorienting feeling to have that familiar feeling suddenly cut so abruptly. Still it only took her a second to readjust herself, once that second was done she, Susan and Rhyana all rushed into the dungeon right behind the other two.
The girls first time delving a dungeon had just begun!
