After Betrayal - I Married a Handsome Tycoon-Chapter 117: Alluring Seduction
Shane Jennings was overwrought, the truth on the verge of tumbling out. But he suddenly realized something and stopped short, looking up at Connor Quinn.
Sure enough, Connor Quinn met his gaze, lit a cigarette, and looked perfectly calm.
’You tell her that when she was eighteen and came to our master’s door seeking tutelage, he never intended to take her. Our master never accepts female disciples. It was I who begged him to take her.’
’You can also tell her that I’ve avoided seeing her all these years precisely because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to control my feelings, and things would get out of hand.’
’You can even tell her that everything happening now is all part of my plan.’
The words Connor Quinn had spoken that day, after their falling-out, were still ringing in his ears.
He choked, clenching his jaw tightly.
’I can’t say any of this.’
’If I say it, I’ll just be adding fuel to the fire.’
Seeing Shane Jennings stop abruptly just as he was about to speak, a flash of impatience crossed Moira Sloan’s face. "Who is he? And what’s our breakup got to do with anything?"
Shane Jennings felt like a fishbone was caught in his throat. "It’s... it’s nothing."
Shane Jennings gritted his teeth and forced all the words back down.
After a moment, he clenched the hand hanging at his side and said, "Moira, believe it or not, I have never done anything to betray you."
Moira Sloan sneered and said nonchalantly, "Oh."
Shane Jennings was speechless.
As Shane Jennings left, Moira Sloan turned, walked over to Connor Quinn, and looped her arm through his.
As they walked on, Moira Sloan suddenly asked, "If a woman tried to seduce you, would you be able to tell?"
Connor Quinn replied in a deep voice, "I would."
Moira Sloan chuckled. "And would you take the bait?"
Connor Quinn said, "If it were you, I would."
Moira Sloan raised an eyebrow at his words. Seeing his dead-serious expression, she was stunned for a moment before her lips curved into a smirk. Feigning nonchalance, she said, "Well, you’ve got good taste."
The two walked along the road for a while before hailing a taxi back to the hotel.
Upon entering the room, Moira Sloan went straight to the bathroom to wash her hands, casually asking Connor Quinn, "Boss Quinn, when are you planning to head back to Everwood?"
Connor Quinn was standing at the bathroom door. Seeing her turn on the faucet and immediately put her hand under the stream, he strode over, used his large hand to stop hers, and stood beside her to adjust the water temperature.
Her soft hand was enveloped in his large one, and for a moment, Moira Sloan’s heart softened as well.
Connor Quinn asked, "When are you heading back?"
Moira Sloan was lost in a daze for a moment. When she snapped out of it, she smiled. "Tomorrow."
’I can’t stand to stay in this godforsaken place for another day.’
Connor Quinn said, "I’m leaving tomorrow, too."
As he spoke, Connor Quinn guided her hand under the stream of water.
The water temperature was perfect—not too cold, not too hot.
The moment her fingertips touched the water, the corners of Moira Sloan’s lips curved up. She said sincerely, "Connor Quinn, you’ll make a great husband and father someday."
Connor Quinn’s expression didn’t change. "Want to find out?"
Moira Sloan scoffed. "Not me."
’I have no plans to get married.’
’At least, not anytime soon.’
The topic ended there. Neither of them brought it up again.
After coming out of the bathroom, Moira Sloan curled up on the sofa to play a game while Connor Quinn sat on the other end, looking at his phone.
A few minutes ago, Miles Murray had sent him a message about Kain Alden.
[Charles Shelby told me you asked him to investigate your master’s wife a couple of days ago?]
Connor Quinn: Yeah.
Miles Murray: Is there a problem?
Connor Quinn, ever cautious, replied: Not sure.
Miles Murray: I doubt it’s her. You should look into that second junior of yours, though.
Connor Quinn: On it.
Connor Quinn was a man of few words, whether in person or over text.
Miles Murray found texting with him to be a drag, but he couldn’t call since he knew Connor wouldn’t pick up while he was with Moira Sloan. Changing the subject, he suddenly asked: By the way, I’m actually really curious. Why didn’t you step in and help Moira Sloan at the competition today? Didn’t you feel bad for her?
’Even helping her out from behind the scenes would have been something.’
’Better than letting that girl fight a war all by herself.’
Connor Quinn: She’s not a clinging vine.
’She doesn’t need to depend on a man to survive.’
’My purpose is to be someone she can rely on, not to interfere in her life.’
As Connor Quinn was texting with Miles Murray, a pair of fair, delicate toes suddenly appeared in his line of sight.
Her insteps were arched, and her feet moved about mischievously in his lap.
Seeing this, Connor Quinn reached out and enveloped them with his large hand.
Her cold feet, having found warmth, stilled. The sounds of carnage from Moira Sloan’s game filled his ears. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Moira Sloan was completely oblivious, engrossed in her game. Her feet were cold, and they had automatically sought out a source of warmth.
When she finished her round, she realized Connor Quinn was holding her feet, and her heart stirred.
Combined with everything else that had happened that night, she tossed her phone aside and leaned in, wrapping herself around him like a vine. She was soft, fragrant, and utterly bewitching. "Boss Quinn, the night is long, and it’s just the two of us... a man and a woman, all alone..."
