After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire's Child-Chapter 284 - 277
Chapter 284: Chapter 277
When Emily Parker walked out of the bathroom, there was already no one outside.
Almost instinctively, she walked toward the direction of the lounge. As she reached the door of the lounge, Emily’s footsteps suddenly stopped.
She stood at the door, slightly panting, with her hand suspended in the air, hesitating whether to push open that door.
At this moment, a series of ambiguous sounds came from inside the room, intertwining with suppressed voices, piercing harshly into her heart.
Emily’s heart plummeted, aching fiercely, even her fingertips trembled slightly.
She took a step back, leaning against the cold wall, after a while, a bitter smile appeared on her lips, as if mocking her own naivety, or perhaps comforting herself.
"Emily, what are you afraid of?"
She murmured softly to herself.
It’s the same betrayal, why could she cut off all ties with Adam Willow so decisively, yet remain unable to do so with Carlos?
She once again approached the door, her fingers tightly gripping the doorknob, with beads of sweat already emerging in her palm, the cold metallic touch making her heartbeat surge even more.
At last, she bit her lip, closed her eyes, and was just about to muster up the courage to push the door open.
But at this moment, a large hand suddenly covered hers, the warm touch instantly froze her.
"I didn’t expect you to have this kind of habit."
The man’s rich, low voice rang in her ear, with a hint of teasing and playfulness.
Emily swiftly turned her head, seeing Carlos standing right behind her, less than half a meter away.
His jacket was missing, only wearing a shirt, with the collar slightly open, revealing a glimpse of his collarbone, and a faint smell of alcohol surrounded him.
Carlos looked at her with a half-smile, and Emily’s face turned crimson red in an instant, instinctively glancing at the room behind her, where the ambiguous noise seemed even louder, as if deliberately provoking her.
She suddenly found her heartbeat again.
"You..."
Emily wanted to speak, but didn’t know what to say.
Carlos raised an eyebrow slightly, the smile at the corner of his mouth deepening a bit,
"Why, do you want to go in and take a look?"
He lowered his head, leaned closer to Emily’s face, his breath fanned against her earlobe, making Emily’s face flush even more. She took a step back, but was securely grasped by Carlos, pulling her into his embrace.
"Someone is coming."
Carlos turned his head slightly, his gaze sharply scanning the corridor behind them. His reaction was exceptionally fast, almost instantaneously, he grabbed Emily’s wrist, and swiftly pulled her into a corner.
There was a sturdy pillar there, perfectly concealing both their figures.
Being dragged by him, Emily stumbled slightly, but she didn’t struggle; instinctively, she tightly held onto Carlos’s hand.
Her heart pounded rapidly, and she could still hear Carlos’s low voice by her ear, saying, "Don’t make a sound."
Just then, Sophie Parker and Adam Willow walked over together. Adam’s expression was somewhat gloomy, a deep crease between his brows, seemingly in a bad mood.
Sophie, however, was full of excitement, as if she had discovered some big secret.
She tugged Adam along, running eagerly to the door of the lounge, and upon hearing the sounds from inside, Adam’s expression turned somewhat awkward, his eyes dodging, seemingly not daring to believe it.
Yet Sophie was brimming with excitement, her eyes sparkling, as if eagerly expecting a grand show.
She leaned against the door, perked up her ears, listening for a moment, her voice carrying a hint of excitement,
"Is it really Rainny White and Carlos inside?"
Listening to the sounds inside, Adam only felt his mouth dry out, licking his lips, his voice somewhat parched,
"I saw them go in with my own eyes.
I knew it, there isn’t a cat in the world that doesn’t steal fish. How could Carlos possibly endure with Emily pregnant for so long?"
Sophie’s tone carried a trace of sarcasm and a hint of schadenfreude.
A flicker of calculating triumph flashed in Sophie’s eyes, her lips curling slightly, revealing a smug smile,
"I just knew, Carlos likes Rainny White.
On the surface, he seems to care for Emily immensely, yet behind the scenes, he’s entangled with Rainny White.
This time it’s great, Emily will surely be abandoned."
She turned to Adam, her gaze carrying a hint of expectation,
"Adam, do you think we should go in and take a look? Perhaps we can even catch them in the act."
Her voice carried a hint of excitement, as if she had already envisioned Emily heartbroken and devastated.
Yet Adam frowned slightly, his gaze showing some hesitation,
"Do you want to ruin the Carter Clan?
Even though Carlos has been ousted from the board, he is still the heir to the Carter Clan."
Thinking of Emily made his emotions indescribably complex.
But Sophie was dismissive, she let out a cold laugh,
"Then let him go this time.
However, I installed a pinhole camera inside, everything must have been recorded. I’ll come back to retrieve it later."
Having said that, the two of them left together.
The corridor returned to silence, leaving only Carlos and Emily behind the pillar.
The two exchanged glances, Emily’s eyes filled with confusion, while Carlos’s expression seemed somewhat complex, as if deep in thought.
"Inside?"
Emily spoke softly, her voice carrying a hint of probing.
She knew the person inside was Rainny White, after all, Sophie and Adam both mentioned her name.
But then, who was the man with Rainny White?
Her thoughts seemed to be entangled with a web of confusion, unable to unravel.
Emily’s gaze unconsciously fell on Carlos’s face. His eyes were so calm, they were evasive, showing no hint of sadness, nor any trace of anger, as if everything he just heard had nothing to do with him.
Even though Carlos seemed to harbor a different kind of affection for Rainny White, at this moment, his demeanor was entirely unlike that of a betrayed man.
"Why don’t you seem upset?"
Emily couldn’t help but ask.
"Upset? Why should I be upset?"
Emily was taken aback by his rhetorical question, frowning slightly, her voice tinged with urgency,
"But Rainny White is the person you like, isn’t she?"
Carlos laughed, his smile carrying a hint of faint ridicule, as if finding Emily’s words somewhat ludicrous.
He shook his head, his eyes conveying a trace of helplessness,
"Emily, do you really think I like Rainny White?
It’s my fault for not clarifying things with you.
The relationship between Rainny and me isn’t as you think.
When I mentioned I had someone I liked during the matchmaking, it was just an excuse to brush you off, after all, I wasn’t interested in you at that time and never expected that one day I would..."
Carlos pondered for a moment, deciding to be forthright with his feelings.
But just as he was about to articulate his thoughts, the door opposite them opened, and both immediately turned to look in the direction of the door.
At this moment, they only saw a figure leaving.
It was a man. His hurried footsteps were somewhat flustered.
Judging solely by his back, it was hard to deduce who he was.
