After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret-Chapter 49: Chester Pearson
Just as Nina Jacobs was bracing herself for a long fight.
The sound of helicopters suddenly filled the air.
Several helicopters circled overhead, having apparently noticed their presence.
Holt Tate and the others were ecstatic.
"It’s reinforcements! Reinforcements are here!"
’Reinforcements?’
Nina Jacobs’s expression suddenly changed as she watched the helicopters’ movements.
"Get inside! Now!"
Leo Hale and the others had just breathed a sigh of relief, but they didn’t dare hesitate for a second after hearing Nina Jacobs, scrambling into the house.
A few seconds later, a dense hail of bullets rained down on the yard where they had just been standing.
Before the apocalypse, Nina Jacobs had already replaced the old house’s glass windows with sturdy tempered glass.
But just in case, she had everyone hide in the windowless storage room.
Listening to the sound of bullets ricocheting off the glass outside, Daniel Hale and the others turned pale.
"Don’t these people even give a warning?"
Vera Coleman said.
"Damn it, I hope Ian Chandler is okay."
Leo Hale was very worried about Ian Chandler, who was upstairs.
"If anything happens to him, those people are dead."
Shannon Renner said with a hint of schadenfreude.
"Why would you say that?"
Chelsea Walsh asked, confused. Shannon Renner always said the strangest things.
"It’s nothing," Shannon Renner said, quickly covering her tracks.
"He should be fine."
Nina Jacobs wasn’t too worried about Ian Chandler. He had probably realized what the helicopters were for even before she did.
Only when the intense sounds from outside gradually faded and disappeared did the group emerge from the storage room.
The alley was quiet.
Almost all the zombies had been eliminated.
"This is the power of firearms."
Leo Hale stood outside the door, looking at the ground littered with zombie corpses, deeply moved.
It was as if they had been suddenly rescued.
Ian Chandler was indeed fine, as were Holt Tate and his group, who had been on the second floor of the house next door the whole time.
"Sister, there are a lot of Crystal Cores on the ground."
Many of the zombies had had their heads blown off. In the evening sunlight, numerous Crystal Cores lay on the ground, twinkling faintly.
Ian Chandler thought Nina Jacobs liked these shiny things, so he squatted down and started picking them up.
He was a Space Superpower User and had already learned how to collect items into his space without touching their surfaces, so he gathered them with incredible speed.
"Ian Chandler, Ian Chandler, there are more over here!"
Chelsea Walsh shouted from a distance.
"Ian Chandler? Is that really him?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
A black armored vehicle stopped at the entrance of the alley.
After a few silent shots from inside the vehicle, the few remaining zombies in the area all fell.
The moment the short-haired woman got out of the car, she heard voices coming from the alley.
She had heard someone calling Ian Chandler’s name.
"Miles Dixon, move all this for me."
The woman said urgently.
"Yes!"
A man in a suit got out of the vehicle, stepped over the zombie corpses littering the ground, and then reached out to move the deformed truck that was blocking the alley entrance.
"Ian Chandler?! You really are here!"
Dawn Donovan looked at Ian Chandler squatting in the alley, her face filled with joy.
Ian Chandler looked at the woman walking toward him, his eyes showing no emotion.
"Miss Donovan, you’re here."
"We finally found you. Do you have any idea how worried your grandfather and the others are?"
Dawn Donovan noticed that Ian Chandler was covered in grime and even spattered with zombie blood, and displeasure immediately showed on her face.
"Who did this to you? And you’re picking up this filthy stuff from the ground."
"Filthy? If you think I’m so filthy, Miss Donovan, you can stay away from me."
Ian Chandler ignored her and continued squatting on the ground, picking up the surrounding Crystal Cores.
Dawn Donovan’s expression flickered, but after seeing Ian Chandler’s actions, she exclaimed in pleasant surprise, "You’ve awakened a Superpower?"
"Yes, a Space Superpower."
Ian Chandler replied.
"Mr. Grant was right after all."
Dawn Donovan immediately tried to take Ian Chandler away, but he shook off her hand.
"I don’t want to go back yet."
"Why? Do you know how worried your grandfather is about you?
Your mother is also searching everywhere for you."
Dawn Donovan thought Ian Chandler was just throwing a childish tantrum and immediately ordered her people to get ready to take him away.
"What’s this? Are you trying to kidnap him?"
A slender yet strong arm pulled Ian Chandler to her side.
"Who are you?"
Dawn Donovan looked at the girl in front of her. She was just as dirty, with grime on her face she hadn’t had time to wipe off, which only made her dark eyes seem brighter.
"She’s my friend," Ian Chandler said. "She saved my life."
"I see. In that case, you come back with me first,
and I’ll have someone arrange for their settlement. How does that sound?"
Dawn Donovan realized that no amount of persuasion seemed to work on Ian Chandler, and she quickly lost her patience.
"Miss Donovan."
A familiar voice called out. Nina Jacobs was a little surprised, and a little amused.
Among the people walking toward them from the opposite direction, two were none other than Liam Grant and Renee Strong.
’They’re here too. Is this a coincidence, or was it intentional?’
’Does this have anything to do with Shannon Renner?’
"You’re here. Has the person been sent back?"
When Dawn Donovan saw the person behind the two of them, she immediately stood up straight.
"Captain Pearson, what brings you here in person?"
Dawn Donovan appeared to be older, but she was extremely respectful to the young man before her.
"Not welcome?"
The voice was somewhat familiar. Once Nina Jacobs got a clear look at the person who had arrived, she instantly lost interest.
Chester Pearson.
The madman from her past life who had frantically absorbed Zombie Crystal Cores to climb to the top of the power rankings, only to die at the hands of an ordinary zombie.
She just hadn’t expected Liam Grant and Renee Strong to be with him.
"Not at all. We were only able to get here thanks to your helicopter rescue just now."
Dawn Donovan quickly praised him.
’So Chester Pearson was the one behind that insane strafing run.’
"Found the kid? He still won’t go back?
Is there something interesting going on here?"
Chester Pearson strode forward on his long legs.
When he saw Nina Jacobs and the others beside Ian Chandler, he reached up and took off the sunglasses perched on his nose.
It had to be said, Chester Pearson’s charisma was outstanding among the group.
Of course, that was only when he wasn’t speaking.
"You were the ones killing zombies earlier, weren’t you?
You sure ran fast enough."
Chester Pearson looked at the group with great interest.
"Was that you in the helicopter just now?
Weren’t you afraid of hitting us?"
Leo Hale now understood. The person who had wiped out all those zombies was standing right in front of them.
But this person had also nearly wiped them out.
Chester Pearson looked at the furious Leo Hale and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"For the greater good, sometimes a little sacrifice is unavoidable, right?"
"You’re being outrageous! Shouldn’t you be apologizing?"
Chelsea Walsh truly hadn’t expected him to say something like that.
She had originally planned to ask about Forrest Walsh, but now she desperately hoped that Forrest Walsh didn’t know this kind of person.
They had almost died just now!
"Forget it."
Nina Jacobs cut Chelsea Walsh off.
’Chester Pearson won’t apologize, and arguing is pointless.’
’Besides, why argue with a dead man?’
While they were talking, Holt Tate and his group brought out their surviving companions and the other survivors.
"Shannon Renner?"
Neither Liam Grant nor Renee Strong had expected Shannon Renner to be here.
Nina Jacobs was here, and Shannon Renner was here too.
The two of them exchanged a look, a bad premonition rising in both their hearts.
’Shannon Renner was reborn!’
’Then what about Nina Jacobs?’
"Holt Tate, where’s your Captain Sloan?"
Chester Pearson asked.
