After Prison, She Shocks the World-Chapter 48 Li Qing and Li Hua’s Plan Falls Through
Chapter 48: Chapter 48 Li Qing and Li Hua’s Plan Falls Through
Several people lay fallen outside the low walls of the villa; only one dark figure remained standing.
Mu He heard the footsteps behind him and deliberately stayed put.
"Who... who are you?" Xiaomei asked, her voice trembling as she warily held the mop in front of her.
Mu He turned and made a shushing gesture towards Xiaomei.
"Your sister is still resting."
Xiaomei immediately lowered her voice. "Who are you?"
"Someone protecting your sister."
"Did Wu Shi send you?"
Mu He didn’t deny it.
Xiaomei assumed his silence meant yes and relaxed slightly, though she didn’t lower the mop in her hands.
She scurried over. "Whose people are they? Why do they want to attack my sister?"
"Miss Fu has too many enemies; we’ll need to investigate to find out."
"They’re just jealous of my sister. I bet they work for either Li Qing or Su Kexin."
Xiaomei had her own sources of information. Her sister disliked telling her things, afraid she’d worry, but Xiaomei worried about her sister all the same. So, she tried her best to learn about the matters her sister kept from her, hoping to share her burdens.
Xiaomei squatted beside the fallen men, carefully examining them. "Your methods are quite good," she remarked, looking up at Mu He.
Mu He smiled. "You know quite a lot."
"I have to grow stronger, or my sister will have a very hard time. She’s in the public eye, so it’s easy for those who want to harm her to make a move. I need to make my own preparations in secret."
Xiaomei’s naive and innocent nature didn’t mean she was stupid.
"Can you teach me in the future?"
This man worked for Wu Shi, which made him one of them. She could learn from him. She had wanted to learn from Wu Shi before, but he wasn’t good at speaking, which made teaching her inconvenient.
Mu He gave her a deep look, then slowly nodded.
Xiaomei’s heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled, and she broke into a wide smile.
Mu He had observed Fu Bing for a long time and, by extension, Xiaomei as well. He held a natural fondness for her. Who wouldn’t like such a sincere, bright, simple, yet ambitious girl?
"The people who came today were scattered individuals, bought off with money."
"How can you tell?"
"A few days ago, Lu Ji’s corpse was found with signs of the Wrongfully Dead near it. Many people have connected the Wrongfully Dead with Miss Fu."
"What are the Wrongfully Dead?"
"They’re a ghost army composed of people who have already died. They infiltrate everywhere."
Xiaomei stared blankly for a few seconds. "Are you also one of the Wrongfully Dead?"
Mu He’s lips curved slightly. "You’ll find out later."
Li Qing received news of the failed operation and, in a fit of anger, slammed Li Hua’s medicine to the floor.
"Are you all useless? You couldn’t even catch Fu Xiaomei?"
Li Hua looked at the scattered medicine on the ground. "Do you really think Fu Xiaomei is a fool? Anyone Fu Bing holds in high regard is far from stupid."
"She’s just an orphan. What’s so special about her?"
"She stuck by Fu Bing during Fu Bing’s most difficult times. Do you call someone like that stupid?"
"If we can’t touch Fu Bing, and we can’t touch Fu Xiaomei either, what else can we do?"
After a moment of contemplation, Li Hua said, "Help me get a new SIM card. I need to call your brother-in-law."
"Why call him? He just hit you."
"No matter how much he doted on Han Hu, Han Hu is dead. I am his son’s biological mother. That identity alone means Su He has to treat me with some respect. He was angry before, and I insulted Han Hu, so it was understandable that he hit me. As long as I refuse a divorce, I am still Mrs. Su."
Having endured the physical pain and humiliation, Li Hua had an epiphany. She couldn’t rely on her maiden family, and her only sister was foolish. Her son was the only one she could depend on. She owed her standing to her son. As long as she held onto her son, she wouldn’t fear Su He casting her aside. Even if he tried, as long as she was shameless enough, it wasn’t certain Su He could actually get rid of her.
Li Qing noticed an odd look in Li Hua’s eyes and had a bad feeling.
She went out, supposedly for a walk, and didn’t get the SIM card at all.
She returned and said apologetically to Li Hua, "Sister, they said it’ll take a month before it can be processed."
Anyway, her sister couldn’t get out of bed and had no way to verify it.
Li Hua sneered inwardly; she had seen right through Li Qing.
"I understand. Go and rest."
Li Qing went to the adjacent room to sleep.
When the nurse came in to change her dressing, Li Hua slipped her some money and asked the nurse to buy her a mobile phone and a SIM card.
She immediately called the nanny looking after Su Xiaobao.
"Is the baby all right?"
"Madam?" the nanny said, her voice laced with desperation. "The Young Master cries constantly! We’ve tried everything to soothe him these past few days, but he won’t stop, and his little face has gotten so thin."
Su He had already lost his temper multiple times and had dismissed two nannies who were looking after Su Xiaobao. She herself was on the verge of being fired.
Li Hua quickly said, "Give the phone to the baby. I’ll soothe him."
The nanny immediately complied.
Upon hearing Li Hua’s voice, Su Xiaobao’s crying gradually subsided.
The nanny was overjoyed, tears welling up. "Madam, the Young Master stopped crying as soon as he heard your voice!"
Li Hua asked, "Has the Master been home these past few days?"
"Not during the day. He only comes back very late at night."
"Tell me when he returns. I can save your job."
"Thank you, Madam," the nanny said, immensely grateful.
Su He had a terrible temper, but he paid well. The nanny’s wages were essentially payment for enduring verbal abuse; as long as the pay was sufficient, she could bear it. If she worked for another family, she’d likely endure just as many scoldings as at the Su residence, but for lower pay. The nanny was well aware of her options.
Just as the nanny hung up, Su He’s car pulled up to the house.
The nanny hurried out to greet him. "Master, Madam just called to check on the Young Master. He stopped crying the moment he heard her voice."
"She’s not dead?"
"Madam’s voice sounded very weak."
"She certainly knows how to put on an act." Su He was very familiar with Li Hua’s manipulative nature. In the past, he hadn’t thought it a bad thing for a woman to be scheming. Li Hua’s cunning had solved many of his problems. But after Han Hu’s death, he no longer condoned Li Hua’s scheming. This woman’s jealousy had cost the life of the woman he loved most. He would never forgive her!
"Master, Madam is also just concerned about the Young Master," the nanny ventured.
Su He shot the nanny a look. "Are you trying to earn her money, or mine?"
The nanny trembled and hurriedly knelt. "I will listen to you, Master."
"You’d best remember that. My Su family doesn’t harbor fence-sitters. If there’s a next time, pack your bags and get out!"
"I’ll never dare again!"
After hanging up, Li Hua sent a generous red envelope to the nanny. As she hit send, an exclamation mark appeared in the chatbox—the nanny had blocked her!
A chill crept into Li Hua’s heart; she had a terrible premonition.
