After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 113: I’m Pregnant Too
After Henry Preston left, Ivan Underwood and the others all gave me a glance.
If the call Henry Preston took was from Azure Vaughn, then it means I’ll have to sit and eat with Azure, the current partner, as the ex-wife in a moment.
Crystal Dawson couldn’t tolerate it; she suddenly got up, "Forget it, I’m not eating!"
"Come on, let’s eat, it’s okay." I was worried Crystal’s emotional agitation might affect the baby’s development.
Silas Lockwood quickly caressed her belly, "Baby, don’t be afraid, your mom isn’t mad at you, okay?"
Crystal Dawson slapped Silas Lockwood on the forehead, "Just thinking that you’re good brothers with Henry Preston makes me not want to marry you!"
Silas Lockwood sighed, holding his head and not daring to speak.
"Crystal, you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t get too emotional." I reminded Crystal Dawson again.
The atmosphere was tense when the door to the private room opened again.
Henry Preston led a man inside; they were talking and laughing, appearing to have a good relationship.
But I didn’t recognize the man.
"Julian Jennings?" Ivan Underwood recognized the man, sounding a bit joyful.
"Ivan, long time no see!" Julian Jennings, around the same age as Henry Preston, had a refined and gentle appearance. He smiled as he greeted Ivan Underwood.
Saying this, Henry Preston and Julian Jennings sat down again.
I was a bit confused; I thought Henry Preston went to fetch Azure Vaughn, but it turned out he brought back a man instead.
Julian Jennings sat across from me, I took another look at him, vaguely feeling like I’d seen him somewhere. After searching my mind, I remembered I’d seen this man in Henry Preston’s photo album.
Henry Preston’s album documented some important moments of his life, including a group photo of him, Ivan Underwood, and a boy about the same age.
That was a photo from their high school graduation, and the face of a certain boy in that picture matched Julian Jennings in front of me highly.
In the past life, I hadn’t seen Julian Jennings in person, nor had I paid attention to him in the photos.
"Brother Julian!" Both Silas Lockwood and Jason Forrest knew Julian Jennings, likely having met before.
Julian Jennings smiled and greeted them, his gaze finally landing on me, "Is this my sister-in-law?"
I was stunned, then looked at Henry Preston, signaling him to explain.
It’s strange, how did Julian Jennings know I was Henry Preston’s wife, but he seemed unaware we’d divorced?
"We’ve divorced," Henry Preston explained lightly.
The atmosphere instantly turned a bit awkward.
Julian Jennings was taken aback, then immediately apologized, "I’m sorry."
"It’s alright." I shook my head.
Ivan Underwood’s gaze moved from me to Henry Preston and then looked down, as if deep in thought.
The meal turned out to be quite lively; Julian Jennings’ arrival put Henry Preston and the other men in good spirits. From their conversation, I learned that Julian Jennings, Henry Preston, and Ivan Underwood were childhood friends, but his status was different as he was the son of Grandpa Preston’s driver.
Julian Jennings and Henry Preston’s identities were worlds apart, but he was clearly eloquent and charismatic, with a refined appearance, suggesting he was doing well now.
After high school, Henry Preston and Ivan Underwood attended a domestic university, while Julian Jennings got into a school abroad, separating them.
The separation lasted for many years.
"How’s Uncle Jennings’ health?" Henry Preston asked.
"He..." Julian Jennings smiled bitterly, "He passed away last year, cancer."
Henry Preston and Ivan Underwood exchanged a glance, both looking somber.
I continued eating silently, listening to their conversation.
Ivan Underwood also spoke, "My condolences. Why didn’t you inform us about this? We should have been there to see Uncle Jennings off."
Julian Jennings was more open-minded, "The dead can’t be brought back to life; there’s no need to trouble too many people."
He made a good point, and I quite liked Julian Jennings’ perspective.
Just as I was about to grab some fish, a peculiar, unpleasant smell suddenly hit my nose, causing a violent upheaval in my stomach, and the urge to gag welled up.
I couldn’t swallow the fish in my mouth; it got stuck in my throat, making me feel nauseous.
I got up and hurried to the washroom.
"Ugh..." I had a satisfying vomit in the stall, throwing up all the delicacies I’d eaten earlier.
My throat felt a bit raw, likely due to the stomach acid.
After a while, I washed my hands and wiped my face, looking at my somewhat pale reflection in the mirror, feeling confused.
Do I have a stomach problem, or is it...
Unlike Crystal Dawson, I have irregular periods due to my physical condition, so I hadn’t paid much attention to my period being absent for the past two months.
Could I possibly be pregnant?!
The thought shocked me; Silas and I had only been intimate a few times, the last being after Connor Hawthorne kidnapped me and I was hospitalized. It happened after I was discharged.
The next day, I felt unwell and rushed to the hospital for a checkup, forgetting to take birth control pills.
Could it really only take once?
The most important thing is, I’ve been taking some medications over the past two months, including cold medicine, painkillers, and stomach medicine.
"Zoe, are you okay?" Leah Lane came to find me in the bathroom when she saw me spacing out in front of the mirror, she asked worriedly.
I snapped back and shook my head, a bit flustered, "I’m fine, just ate too much, my stomach feels uncomfortable."
"They’ve almost finished eating too and are planning to book a room to rest. Crystal wants to go back to your place with us, and Silas will pick her up tomorrow morning to go to the airport," Leah Lane said.
"Okay, let’s go." After drying my hands a bit, I returned to normal.
Leah Lane and I went straight to the hotel parking lot, with me driving, Crystal Dawson in the passenger seat, and Leah Lane in the back.
Henry Preston likely has a place to stay around here and won’t stay at the hotel. He suggested to Ivan Underwood and the others, "Come stay at my place."
"Is that... convenient?" Jason Forrest asked.
Everyone must have assumed Azure Vaughn and Henry Preston were living together.
"Why wouldn’t it be? Julian, come along too, we’ll have some drinks and chat," Henry Preston said to Julian Jennings.
"I don’t mind," Julian Jennings agreed gladly.
I rolled up the car window and left ahead of them. Once home, Leah Lane packed a simple bag, and we all washed up and went to bed.
But I couldn’t sleep.
After tossing and turning for a while, I got up to find a leftover pregnancy test from Crystal Dawson and went to the bathroom to try it out.
After opening the pregnancy test, I took a deep breath, dipped the end with the test strip in a bit of urine, and kept a close eye on it.
The control window began to darken quickly, with one line appearing rapidly.
My heart jumped to my throat; I didn’t dare breathe as I watched the control window.
After ten seconds, a faint red line slowly appeared, becoming increasingly visible.
I was stunned, crouching in the bathroom with the pregnancy test, completely stone-faced, unable to come to my senses for a long time.
I’m actually pregnant!
But I just divorced Henry Preston; now what?
"Zoe, are you in there? I need the bathroom!" Crystal Dawson’s voice sounded outside the door; I quickly pulled out some tissue, wrapped the pregnancy test and packaging paper, opened the trash can lid, and tossed it in.
