After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 112: You Can’t Compete With Henry Preston
Crystal Dawson was carrying two lunchboxes, rushing to the balcony, just about to start cursing, when she suddenly noticed something unusual in the sky.
Leah Lane and I followed her out, and when we looked up, we saw many drones in the night sky, each with a bright red rose hanging below and adorned with lights, arranged densely in the shape of a heart.
At this moment, people in the nearby buildings were all poking their heads out to watch the excitement.
I lived on the third floor, and from the balcony, we could see the garden of the community. I tugged on Crystal Dawson’s sleeve, "Is that Silas Lockwood down there?"
Crystal Dawson craned her neck to look down, and indeed, Silas Lockwood was holding a large bouquet of flowers, dressed in a sleek suit, looking up at her.
"Tiger Mom, marry me!" Silas Lockwood didn’t bother with pretense; as soon as he caught Crystal Dawson’s gaze, he "whooshed" down on one knee.
Not far away, the figures of Henry Preston, Ivan Underwood, and Jason Forrest were vaguely shrouded in the shadows of the plants.
Worthy of good brothers, one proposes, and all come to witness.
Crystal Dawson had been feeling restless these days, worried about what she’d do if Silas Lockwood didn’t take responsibility.
Unexpectedly, Silas Lockwood acted so manly this time and flew over directly to propose.
Crystal Dawson covered her mouth, tears welling up, and quickly went downstairs, with Leah Lane and me swiftly following.
"Tiger Mom, I’m sorry, I came to propose at the last minute. I’m unfamiliar with this place, so I couldn’t give you a grand proposal. But rest assured, as long as you agree to marry me, I’ll make sure you have the most satisfactory wedding when we return home!" Silas Lockwood knelt on the ground, with an honest and sincere demeanor.
I thought Crystal Dawson would make things difficult for Silas Lockwood, but she just smiled, unceremoniously snatched the ring box, and put the ring on herself.
"How many carats is it?" she asked, looking at the pigeon-egg-sized diamond on her finger.
"Nine carats, signifying our endless love!" Silas Lockwood grinned like a fool.
"Okay, what do your parents say?" Crystal Dawson asked again.
Silas Lockwood patted his chest, "Don’t worry, my parents are very happy. They said it’s better for me to marry you, as you can keep me in check, rather than wasting time with some unsavory women outside!"
A hen-pecked husband, and he seemed quite proud of it.
I couldn’t help but smile. The sour smell of love left me both gratified and envious. I had never been confessed to so boldly, and back then, I didn’t even have a proposal ceremony when I got married; we just got married directly.
I involuntarily glanced at Henry Preston, feeling somewhat inexplicably lost. What I wanted, he seemed to have never given me.
At this moment, watching his good brother propose, what was he thinking?
Was he regretting not proposing to me, or was he thinking about how to do better when proposing to Azure Vaughn in the future?
It’s probably the latter. I suppressed that little bit of regret in my heart and picked up my phone to take a picture of Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood embracing.
After the drones withdrew, Silas Lockwood followed Crystal Dawson upstairs, and naturally, Henry Preston and the others followed. My cozy two-bedroom and one-living-room apartment was suddenly crowded with people.
"Sit, sit, sit!" As the host, I temporarily set aside past grievances and enthusiastically poured tea to entertain.
Henry Preston and Ivan Underwood sat on the sofa, while Jason Forrest sat on a chair opposite Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood, who were holding hands.
After pouring the tea, I went to the kitchen to wash some fruits.
The water was gushing, and I was focused when Ivan Underwood, not knowing when he had entered the kitchen, suddenly asked, "Why didn’t you tell me about going abroad?"
I hurriedly turned off the water and turned to look at Ivan Underwood.
His eyes were filled with inquiry and a hint of disappointment. "Don’t you trust me?"
"No, it’s just that I find partings too sentimental, so I didn’t say anything." I felt a bit guilty.
Ivan Underwood had been really good to me, helping me a lot, yet I had concealed my departure from him, and I hadn’t replied to his messages or calls during this time.
"Do you know how many times I went to your apartment to find you, and you didn’t respond to any of my messages or calls? Were you doing this deliberately?" Ivan Underwood’s words carried a chilly vibe, seemingly very angry.
I was genuinely puzzled, "But why were you looking for me? There were obviously more important things waiting for you."
Ivan Underwood asked, "What things?"
"Didn’t you know that Azure Vaughn went overseas to study too? She’s here as well; I even ran into her. Henry Preston must have come with her." I reminded Ivan Underwood, "You won’t be able to beat Henry if you keep this up."
Just as Ivan Underwood was about to respond, Henry Preston’s voice coldly interrupted us, "What do you want to compete with me over?"
The kitchen wasn’t that big, and these two tall guys were blocking the space, making the air feel a bit stuffy.
"Nothing, it’s just that there aren’t many fruits, so don’t fight over them later." I picked up the washed fruits, showing them to Henry Preston, shamelessly telling a fib without blushing.
Ivan Underwood gave me a deep look, "Alright, got it."
He then sidestepped around Henry Preston and went back to the living room to sit down.
"Go and have some fruits." I said distantly to Henry Preston.
In the living room, Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood had already decided to take a flight back home early the next morning and start preparing for their engagement and wedding.
I gnawed on an apple, watching Crystal Dawson’s blissful little face, feeling quite surreal. Among us four, the flirtiest Siren was now pregnant before marriage and about to wed a Casanova.
Is this a case of a couple reaching the shore together?
Jason Forrest saw his brother getting ready to settle down, his face full of wistful emotions, then suggested, "To celebrate Young Master Lockwood’s successful proposal, let’s all go out for a meal together!"
"Sure, it’s my treat. Ivan Underwood and Jason Forrest came along with me, and they haven’t had dinner yet," Silas Lockwood suddenly seemed to mature, "And Brother Henry, I entrusted the urgent proposal ceremony to you; thanks to your arrangements, I’m so grateful, I must treat you to a meal!"
Crystal Dawson gave me a look, her eyes suggesting something left unsaid.
After all these years of friendship, one look, and I knew what she meant.
Henry Preston understands such romance, yet he’s never given it to me; I felt somewhat pitiful.
"Let’s go, time to head out!" Silas Lockwood hugged Crystal Dawson and stood up. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Everyone else had no objections, only I didn’t want to go, but since the female protagonist of today’s proposal is my best friend, it wouldn’t be right not to join the meal.
In the future, when Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood are married, their interactions with Henry and the others will become more frequent, and I’ll inevitably have to interact with them. Might as well get used to it now.
We took two cars; I drove Leah Lane, as well as Jason Forrest and Ivan Underwood.
Henry Preston drove Crystal Dawson and Silas Lockwood.
Arriving at a five-star hotel, Silas Lockwood booked the largest private room, and once seated, we ordered a lot of dishes.
While waiting for the food, everyone was chatting when Henry Preston’s phone rang. I looked towards him.
"Yeah, I’ll come pick you up." I didn’t know what was said on the other end of the phone; I only saw Henry Preston get up and walk out.
