Chapter 115: Chapter 115: He Wants to Starve Me

Just as I was retching so hard my stomach began to spasm, a hand landed on my back, gently patting it.

I endured the discomfort and turned my head to glance up. Henry Preston’s face was stern, with a hint of worry in his eyes. "Feeling better? Let me take you to the hospital for a check-up."

"No need, I just have a bit of a stomach issue. I’ll buy some antacids later," I waved to refuse.

If I went to the hospital, my pregnancy would definitely be discovered. If Henry found out, it would be troublesome.

When I was in Xylos, I found time to visit the hospital for a check-up. Indeed, I was almost two months pregnant. Since I’d taken some medication, the doctor said they couldn’t determine if the fetus was affected.

I couldn’t decide to terminate the pregnancy, so I hesitated and dragged it out.

"If you have stomach issues, it’s even more important to get a full examination, combine medications for treatment." Henry saw me stand up and grabbed my arm, trying to lead me away.

"I’ve seen a doctor, no need to go again!" I broke free from his hand and replied tiredly, "I came to this room just to find a place to rest for a while. I’m going to sleep." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

This seemed like a lounge, with a small sofa bed. I walked over and lay down, my eyelids falling shut, too lazy to open them.

Perhaps because of the pregnancy, I’ve become a bit drowsy. Even knowing Henry was beside me, I didn’t have the energy to care and quickly fell asleep.

I had no idea how long I slept. When I awoke, it was dark outside, with only a dim lamp illuminating the room.

"Awake?" Henry was still there, sitting in a chair, facing me.

"What time is it? The wedding’s over, right?" I was startled, had I overslept? Didn’t Crystal Dawson look for me?

Henry lifted his wrist to check his watch, "It’s nine-thirty in the evening."

I sat up, a bit dazed. Had I slept from the afternoon to the night?!

Henry continued, "Crystal and the others did come looking for you. I told them to go first. I’ll take you back later."

"Did I really sleep so long..." I rubbed my brow.

"Been too tired lately?" Henry asked.

"Maybe, but you didn’t need to stay here," I said softly, "This might lead to misunderstandings."

Henry’s dark pupils reflected the light, creating a hazy effect; I couldn’t decipher his thoughts. I only heard him ask, "Would it have been more suitable for Ivan Underwood to stay here?"

He seemed to be at odds with Ivan. Was it because of me, or because of Azure Vaughn? It was hard to tell in the moment.

I didn’t want to say more to him. Linda was still waiting at the hotel. We had to head to another province first thing tomorrow to negotiate with our partners there.

In the past few days, apart from visiting home once, I’ve been busy helping Crystal with her wedding, having barely begun any work. Fortunately, the timing worked out, as long as we could leave early tomorrow.

"I’m leaving now." I opened the door and stepped out.

As soon as I stepped outside, the cold hit me. The chill of spring was penetrating, especially since the estate was atop a mountain. The night wind was strong. I only wore a thin bridesmaid’s dress, and the breeze gave me goosebumps all over.

My phone rang. It was Crystal calling, "Zoe, you’re awake?"

"Yes, heading to the hotel," I replied in the cold wind.

"I asked Silas Lockwood to wake you, but he said you couldn’t be awakened. So, I asked Henry to wait there until you woke up. I’ll send someone to pick you up now!" Crystal said.

Was I really sleeping so deeply?

Henry also stepped out, standing beside me. I glanced at him suspiciously and answered Crystal, "Crystal, don’t bother. I’ll just take Henry’s car down the mountain."

Today was Crystal’s big day, and I didn’t want to trouble her.

After just a few exchanges, Crystal abruptly started to retch, and had to hang up hurriedly.

A warm coat was draped over my shoulders, shielding me from the biting wind against my bare skin, offering great comfort.

"Let’s go," Henry said, having removed his coat to reveal a formal gray shirt and a black tie. He always wore formal attire to such events, rarely opting for anything else.

"Aren’t you cold?" I followed behind him and asked.

"Not cold," he replied succinctly.

We then lapsed into silence, passing by the bustling site where Crystal had walked down the aisle, now busy with people cleaning up.

Once in Henry’s car, I intended to remove the coat, but he stopped me, "Keep it on. I can spare one coat."

Remembering the little life in my belly, I didn’t refuse. I put his coat back on, fearing a cold could be detrimental.

Halfway down, my stomach suddenly growled loudly.

All afternoon and night, I hadn’t eaten anything, feeling a desperate kind of hunger unlike any I’d experienced before.

I couldn’t help it, "Henry, can you drop me off at a restaurant? I’ll eat something and head back myself."

Henry glanced at my stomach, then drove straight to a restaurant.

When I saw the upscale entrance of the restaurant, I refused to get out, "I don’t want to eat here, I want food from a street stall."

I finally understood Crystal’s previously changing tastes, as if there was a mental menu spinning in my head, constantly switching, bringing out names of dishes I craved.

I now really desired the rich, oily, salty flavors from roadside stalls, not caring about nutrition or cleanliness, just wanting to eat them.

"Your stomach is already bad, and you want to eat street food?" Henry sounded somewhat disapproving.

"It’s none of your business!" Hungry and frustrated, I snapped, "If you don’t want to take me, fine, I’ll get a taxi!"

With that, I attempted to open the door to get out.

But Henry hadn’t unlocked the door, so I couldn’t open it. Angrily, I cursed him, "Do you want to starve me? We’re divorced, so why care about where I eat, you weirdo! Unlock the door!"

I asked my doctor about the unstable emotions, and he said hormonal changes in pregnancy cause mood swings, so it wasn’t my fault.

If I didn’t eat something soon, I felt I might cry from frustration.

Henry seemed taken aback by my reaction. He sighed, "Is it worth crying over a meal?"

Annoyed, I really wanted to tell Henry I was pregnant, to ruin the relationship he and Azure Vaughn had worked so hard to repair.

I doubted Azure could stay calm if she knew this.

But reason told me this would only complicate things for me, and revert my newly-gained freedom back to chaos.

Seeing my distress, Henry had no choice but to drive me to a bustling night market street, filled with delightful aromas from advanced high-tech stalls. For a moment, I felt I’d reached paradise, quickly jumping out of the car to indulge.

Henry trailed behind, watching me sweep through the food stalls, his brows furrowing tightly.
