After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 137: Coincidence Every Time
"Originally, I was full, but I ran into a stray dog on the way and planned to buy some fried chicken for it. Since you also want to eat, I’ll treat you." I said sarcastically with a smile.
Azure’s face was already flushed, biting her lip, her eyes turned red.
Why does she love biting her lips so much?
"Zoe Hathaway!" Brother Henry called out to me somewhat displeased, because what I said was quite unpleasant.
Joy Lawson shouted, "How dare you call Azure a dog?!"
I laughed out loud, "Did I say that? You’re really smart." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
With that, I turned around and walked away. I wasn’t going to let these people ruin my good mood after finding food. The doctor said that when pregnant, a mother’s mood should be good, hormones stable, so the child will have a better temperament in the future.
Feeling satisfied, I headed home, washed up, and went to sleep.
Before bed, I received a message from Ivan Underwood: Do you want more fried chicken? I’ll bring some over.
What a kind person!
I replied: No need, I’m very full, thank you!
Ivan didn’t respond further, so I rested easy and fell asleep, going to work the next day.
Company announced holiday shortly with Qingming Festival approaching, Sherman Hathaway harbors a deep affection for traditional culture. For Qingming within the country, the whole company gets a three-day holiday.
My uncle plans to return for tomb-sweeping this year, and I’m joining him.
The day before the holiday, I went to the airport with my luggage and uncle after work, ready to fly back overnight.
After hours of flying, I landed safely. Before returning, I contacted Lane, who’s now my dad’s driver. Knowing I’m coming back, he immediately agreed to pick me up from the airport late at night.
Lane waited outside the airport for us, smiled faintly upon seeing us, then quickly came forward to take my luggage, "Madam."
"Call me Miss Hathaway from now on." I responded with a smile.
Lane was hired as a driver after I married Brother Henry, always calling me "Madam." Now divorced, there’s no need for such address.
Lane nodded, "Alright, Miss Hathaway."
He politely greeted my uncle, "Hello, Mr. Hathaway."
"Thank you for your hard work." My uncle replied warmly.
"It’s my duty." Lane put our luggage in place and drove us home.
Returning to the familiar home felt comforting; my parents hadn’t yet slept, waiting for my uncle and me.
I embraced my mom, "Mom, I really missed you and Dad."
Mom patted me, "We missed you too. Have you and your uncle had dinner? I’ll cook something for you."
"We ate, no need to bother," I replied, "There was food on the plane."
Dad chatted with my uncle, our family atmosphere was harmonious. After a while, we all retired to our rooms to sleep, it was already past midnight, and I was terribly sleepy.
I slept until noon the next day. Mom didn’t wake me for breakfast, so I just got up for lunch.
"Has Brother Henry returned?" Mom asked during the meal.
"I don’t know." I shook my head, I hadn’t inquired.
Dad’s face was stern, "Zoe, you must not associate with him anymore. He even sent Azure for studying abroad, going with her himself. Don’t be foolish."
"Dad, rest assured, I don’t have masochistic tendencies." I replied.
"Right, we’re not unvalued, never belittle yourself." Dad nodded appreciatively.
Tomorrow is Qingming Festival, my grandparents passed away several years ago. Their grave is in a cemetery in City A, we visit every year for tomb-sweeping.
Mom prepared the items for tomorrow’s tomb-sweeping at home; Crystal Dawson called me, "Zoe, you returned?! Come out and play!"
"Where to play?" I asked lazily on the sofa.
"Come out for a meal!" Crystal said excitedly, "Plus Yara and Tiana, I’ll have Silas Lockwood treat us; he hasn’t treated you all yet."
Considering dining out, I clarified one thing to Crystal, "Sure, I want roasted whole lamb!"
"Alright, as many as you want, I’ll find a place with the best taste!" Crystal replied.
After the call, Crystal tagged Leah Lane and Tiana O’Connell in the group, they were excited to hear about my return, readily agreeing.
In the evening, Crystal sent me a farmhouse address. I drove there, joined by Leah and the others already waiting, including Silas Lockwood and Jason Forrest.
Upon seeing me, Crystal and the others were thrilled, treating me like the Empress Dowager in the center. Silas and Jason seemed a bit uneasy.
Due to the previous awkwardness between us.
Tonight is outdoor roasted whole lamb, very atmospheric with pure charcoal cooking. The whole processed lamb was placed on a rack and seasoned before grilling.
Halfway through, Crystal glared behind me, then showed disdain, "Darn it, Azure Vaughn is home too?"
I turned, indeed it was Azure and Brother Henry.
Days ago, she was competing with me for a portion of fried chicken at the night market, perhaps now competing for roast lamb?
Things can’t be coincidental; how come wherever I am, they appear too?
"Brother Henry, you’re back?" Silas excitedly greeted him.
Brother Henry stared at me intently, while I redirected my attention to the roasted lamb.
Crystal rolled her eyes repeatedly, fearing she might pass out from dizziness.
Azure answered for Brother Henry, "Yes, yes, we returned for tomb-sweeping; I saw you having roast lamb on social media and couldn’t resist joining. I wasn’t aware Miss Hathaway was here too..."
Silas glanced at me guiltily.
He surely shared the location while posting online, creating trouble for me.
"Brother Henry, are you bankrupt? Can’t afford roast lamb, needing her to share?" Crystal’s temper flared post-pregnancy.
Brother Henry seemingly hadn’t anticipated encountering us; after looking at Azure, his face darkened, "I’ll pay the bill later."
"It’s not about paying, it’s that I don’t welcome you or Azure!" Crystal said loudly, staring disdainfully at Azure.
Azure quickly altered her expression, pitifully looking at Brother Henry, then at Silas and Jason.
She quietly apologized, "Sorry, Crystal, I truly didn’t know Miss Hathaway was here..."
"Crystal, I’ll go to the restroom." I stood up, brushing grass off my pants, not even glancing at Brother Henry and Azure again, heading straight for the restroom.
I sensed a gaze trailing me, but I didn’t look back.
Exiting the restroom, preparing to wash hands, Brother Henry’s reflection appeared in the mirror behind, frowning as he looked at me, "I wouldn’t have let her come if I knew you were here."
"Does it matter?" I replied nonchalantly while washing, "Your girlfriend’s unwarranted insecurity constantly seeks my attention, displaying herself, don’t you find our encounters odd coincidences?"
