Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Bleeding

"I’m fine, just a bit overwhelmed by work. You guys chat." I casually replied, then closed the door.

After that, I prepared a simple dinner for myself. I wasn’t very hungry, so I made something light.

Just as I was about to eat, the doorbell rang again. I glanced over and saw it was Julian Jennings.

If it had been Azure Vaughn or Joy Lawson, I might not have answered, but with Julian Jennings, I couldn’t pretend to be deaf or dumb.

"Miss Hathaway, would you like to come over and have something to eat?" Julian smiled as he invited me when I opened the door.

"No, thank you, I’ve already started eating." I politely declined.

"Come join us, I thought Henry Preston would come over, but he got held up. I’ve prepared quite a bit, and it would be a shame to waste it," Julian said with a helpless expression.

Wasting a little food didn’t bother me, "Still—"

"Brother Julian, why bother inviting her? We should just eat ourselves so someone doesn’t spoil our appetite." Joy appeared at the door, her tone full of disdain.

The words I was about to say caught in my throat, as I coldly watched this clown. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Joy, don’t say that. Miss Hathaway’s not feeling well lately; don’t talk like that." Azure intervened to stop Joy from targeting me, her kind and gentle demeanor appealing to everyone.

Joy was indignant, "Azure, stop speaking for her. So what if she’s not well? Is it as serious as your heart condition? She can upset you enough to end up in the hospital, and you’re still worrying about her!"

Hearing Joy’s words, Julian showed a hint of surprise, "Azure’s heart attack is related to Miss Hathaway?"

"Of course, it’s because she agitated her to the point of losing control of her emotions, leading to the heart attack. Otherwise, how could calm Azure behave like that?" Joy argued more fervently.

Julian’s view of me changed immediately, from disbelief to some blame, which amused me. Just a few words, and his impression of me changed?

Since that’s the case, even better, I raised an eyebrow and asked, "So, do you still want me to come over? If you do, I’ll go now; I didn’t make much."

Julian hesitated, but it was Azure who spoke up, "Miss Hathaway, please do join us."

"Alright then, come over. It’s a good chance for you two to clear up any misunderstandings." Julian finally agreed to have me over.

I turned to grab my phone, didn’t refuse anymore, and directly went over to Julian’s for dinner.

Azure gave me a sweet and charming smile, looking very happy, and even took the initiative to grab my hand, "Miss Hathaway, let’s eat over there."

I nonchalantly avoided her and went straight to the dining table to sit down.

Julian indeed made a full table of splendid dishes that looked very appetizing, and he told us, "Wait a moment, there are still some soups in the kitchen, I’ll go get them."

As soon as Julian headed to the kitchen, Joy immediately followed, leaving me and Azure alone by the dining table.

One of the dishes today was steamed fish. The smell made me nauseous, so I didn’t look too good.

"Miss Hathaway, what’s wrong? Why do you look so pale?" Azure gently asked.

"Nothing." I stood up coldly, "I don’t like any of these dishes. You guys eat, I’m leaving."

If I didn’t leave soon, I would puke.

Seeing this, Azure stood up and tried to hold my hand again, "Miss Hathaway, let’s eat together. There’s no need for misunderstandings between us. Henry and I—ah!"

I didn’t do anything, but Azure suddenly fell to the ground with a scream.

She clutched her chest, seemingly in pain.

"Azure!" Henry’s voice abruptly sounded at the door, his expression worried and tense as he quickly walked toward us.

He bypassed me to first check on Azure.

Julian and Joy also rushed out, shocked by the scene, "What’s going on?"

"It’s not Miss Hathaway’s fault, I’m just too weak..." Azure shakily pointed to her bag, "My medicine..."

Joy hurriedly fetched the medicine from the bag and gave it to Azure, then angrily pointed at me, "What did you do to her again? Are you bullying her because she’s soft-hearted?"

"I didn’t do anything." I took a deep breath, focusing on Azure, "Azure, shouldn’t you explain?"

"Miss Hathaway, I’m not blaming you, I know you didn’t mean to push me, Henry, don’t be mad..." Azure’s explanation only confirmed my guilt.

Henry looked up at me, his deep dark eyes filled with complex emotions, similar to Julian’s earlier gaze, clearly mixed with blame.

"I saw it." He spoke just those four words, but they were sharper than knives.

Azure paused for a moment, a flash of glee in her eyes that only I seemed to notice.

The next second, she put on a look of grievance and helplessness, clutching her chest and crying painfully, "I really just wanted to clear up misunderstandings with Miss Hathaway..."

"To the hospital first!" Henry scooped up Azure and left as quickly as possible, Julian and Joy nervously following along, leaving me standing there.

The doctor had advised me to keep my emotions stable, as excessive emotional fluctuations could stimulate uterine contractions and cause fetal instability.

But now I couldn’t control my emotions, the pent-up frustration and pain surged like a tide, I took a deep breath, ready to head back.

Just stepping out, I felt a pain in my lower abdomen, an unsettling sensation that gave me a bad feeling.

I wanted to call for emergency help or contact Ivan Underwood, but being closest was undoubtedly Henry. I tried calling him, hoping he’d take me to the hospital.

The call connected but was ruthlessly cut off, chilling my heart. Without further thought, I immediately dialed emergency services again!

As soon as Azure left, I was also taken to the hospital. The fetus was already unstable, and I ended up back in the hospital on the very day I was discharged.

"Miss Hathaway, you must stay hospitalized long-term to protect the fetus, and...the chances are slim, you need to make a decision." The doctor sighed after a hasty examination.

I clenched my fists, a fleeting sting in my eyes, "Hospitalize me, doctor, please try to save my child!"

Without any family, the doctor instructed me to notify someone to accompany me, handle daily care, and other procedural matters.

Reluctantly, I contacted Ivan Underwood. He arrived promptly, his expression grim as he saw me receiving an IV, "Are you trying to wear yourself out?"

"No, perhaps this child is just not meant to be with me, but I want to keep her." I lay on the bed with a bitter smile.

I dared not think of the scene when Henry carried Azure away or the call that was cut off, for dwelling on them would worsen my mood.

Naturally, I didn’t mention these to Ivan. Bringing them up was like reliving that discomfort and pain.

"Still not planning to tell the family?" Ivan asked, "How long do you intend to keep this under wraps? This isn’t a small matter; it’s about life."

Looking at his stern demeanor, I was a bit worried. If my parents found out...

But he was right, hiding it any longer wouldn’t help.

I replied, "In a few days, I’ll figure out how to tell my parents."

"Okay." Ivan’s expression gave no clue to his feelings, he merely said solemnly, "Take care of yourself."

For the sake of the child in my womb, I would naturally take good care of myself. Lying on the bed, all I could think about was how to break the news of my pregnancy to my parents.

Unexpectedly, before I could tell my family, Azure appeared again a few days later.

Azure was in a wheelchair, pushed by Joy, and in just a few days, she looked paler and thinner, a far cry from her previously healthy and vibrant self.

I didn’t see Henry with them. No one informed him I was also hospitalized, and he hadn’t contacted me either.

I wasn’t sure how Azure found out I was here.

I’m certain I didn’t want to see her, "Both of you leave immediately, don’t get in my way."

"Miss Hathaway, I’m here to say goodbye." Azure’s brow creased, her voice a bit weak, "This time I can’t hold on anymore, Henry has gone ahead to Country D to arrange for the hospital, and I’ll be going as soon as it’s set."

I ignored her, her survival or death was none of my concern, as long as Henry worried for her, it was enough.

Besides, I had no justified reason to blame Henry, I was the one who initiated the divorce, and hid the pregnancy, giving him no choice.

Since he chose Azure post-divorce, putting her first was only natural.

"Joy, I wish to say a few words to Miss Hathaway alone, could you step out for a moment?" Azure, seeing my silence, turned to Joy.

Joy glanced at me, full of caution, but ultimately nodded and walked out, closing the door behind her.

With only the two of us in the ward, Azure suddenly laughed, her eyes filled with unexpected smugness and arrogance.
