After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 94: Showing Off on Purpose
The titles are numerous, and I’m too lazy to appreciate them one by one. I just skimmed the content and then glanced at the comments.
Comment 1: Damn, don’t embarrass us female college students, okay? She’s playing the role of a mistress like she’s Cinderella?!
Comment 2: This woman is quite pretty. If she didn’t go for a married man, she could find some other eligible bachelor.
Comment 3: If a handsome, wealthy, and infatuated CEO pursued me, I’d probably fall too. Women are a bit attracted to strength, you know (Parents are alive, have a boyfriend, not married, not cheating, just discussing the dark side of human nature, don’t flame, don’t flame!)
Comment 4: Who is Henry Preston’s wife? Why does she never speak up whenever rumors surface? Did she master Ninjutsu in a country where everyone lives a good life?
There are those who criticize Azure, those who understand her, and even some who take my side. Some even claim to be ’friends’ familiar with Henry and me, then start spilling all sorts of ’secrets’ even I wasn’t aware of.
I looked till my eyes blurred, then finally closed the page.
I didn’t expect this affair to gain such momentum. A few days ago, its popularity was unremarkable, but my dad still saw it. Today, it has soared onto the trending list, likely visible to all my friends and family.
It’s mainly because last night Azure attempted suicide, and then Henry jumped in to save her. Someone filmed it, which ignited the attention.
Sure enough, soon my group of four girlfriends went into a frenzy.
Crystal Dawson: What the hell?! Henry is a scumbag!! Jumping into the sea to save the mistress, well done!
Crystal Dawson: Zoe, you have to follow through with the divorce proceedings this time! What’s the use of a man like that?
Leah Lane: You’re filing for divorce? Why didn’t I know about this?
Tiana O’Connell: Good job, we can’t let the humiliation pile up.
Leah Lane: I’m just curious, who happened to catch Henry saving Azure? I don’t mean to be conspiratorial, but could it be Azure orchestrated this herself? 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Crystal Dawson instantly sent a string of exclamation marks: !!!!!! Right!!!!!! Just a few days ago, Zoe’s mother-in-law dealt with the little vixen, and she wants to use this ploy to show Zoe’s mother-in-law that Henry is so obsessed with her he throws caution to the wind!!
I watched them fill the screen, unsure of what to say, and finally could only silently put down the phone.
After a while, Crystal Dawson called, "Zoe, aren’t you going to the hospital?"
"No," I replied.
"Good, don’t go. I heard Henry is very considerate staying with Azure at the hospital. Don’t go there to upset yourself. Get the divorce and reclaim your freedom!" Crystal Dawson was indignant.
"Who told you that? Did Ivan Underwood tell you?" I asked.
"No, I just heard it from someone," Crystal Dawson sounded a bit guilty, then she began to shout again, "Anyway, if you keep diminishing your own worth, I won’t respect you anymore!"
I’ve been too indulgent and patient over the years, desperately humble. No wonder Crystal and the others feel uncomfortable watching. I’m not as decisive as Leah in the Connor Hawthorne affair, where she quickly stopped before it was too late.
I have to learn from her!
"Okay, I won’t look down on myself anymore." I answered firmly.
Crystal Dawson chatted with me for a while longer before hanging up.
I moved out of Maplewood Gardens several days ago, and Henry probably doesn’t know yet.
I also filed for divorce, which he likely hasn’t heard about.
I moved into this apartment, and he definitely doesn’t know.
He’s been trying to win back Azure these days. After finally getting so close, it’s a pity it all came to nothing just like that.
By evening, I felt unusually lonely in the apartment, my mind a whirl of thoughts, so I just drove out for a spin.
On the way, I got a call from Dylan Dawson; Crystal must have given him my number.
"What are you doing?" His voice was deep and gentle.
"Just driving around randomly." I roamed aimlessly, watching the night scenery as I answered.
Dylan probably saw those news reports too, but he didn’t ask directly, opting instead for a more subdued approach, "Why are you driving around alone? Not in a good mood?"
My mood was indeed terrible. Clearly, everything was progressing perfectly, seemingly helping bring about a resolution between Henry and me, ushering in a new life wholly different from the past, but I just felt very irritable.
"Yeah." I muttered.
"Want to go to an open-air concert?" Dylan asked again, "There’s one over at Waterside Plaza; you can make it in time if you leave now."
Having nowhere to go, I readily agreed.
Half an hour later, Dylan and I met over at Waterside Plaza. It was an outdoor concert, the wind was cold, but everyone’s spirits were high. Under the lights and fountains, young musicians from a campus band each held their instruments, embarking on a musical art form.
The audience was mostly young people, some of whom discussed the band members being from University A.
I squinted and recognized one of the girls. I had seen her once when accompanying Azure to rent a wedding dress.
She seemed to notice me too, for some reason showing hostility in her eyes, even making her cello a tool for expressing her disdain, intensifying several notes so that the conductor gave her a disapproving glare.
Unwittingly, Dylan and I stood in the cold wind for a long time until the performance ended. I took out my phone to check the time and saw two missed calls from Henry.
"I’m going to make a call." I told Dylan, then went aside to call back.
Henry picked up quickly but didn’t speak.
I asked, "Why were you calling me?"
There was a few seconds of silence before Azure’s voice came on, "Miss Hathaway, it’s me."
It was my turn to be silent.
"Henry has been taking care of me these past few days. Can you tell him to leave? I can’t get him to go, and I know I shouldn’t let this continue. I’m afraid of being misunderstood again." Azure’s voice was small.
"If you’re afraid of being misunderstood, then don’t attempt suicide. If you attempt suicide, don’t inform Henry and me. If you inform us, then don’t arrange for someone to secretly film it. This way, no misunderstandings arise, right?" I countered.
Azure was so taken aback by me she couldn’t speak, so I continued calmly, "If you want to flaunt Henry’s dedication and concern towards you, then you’re really mistaken. I’ve already filed for divorce. He’ll probably get the notice within a couple of days. Instead of trying to irk me, think about how to get his family to accept you."
After speaking, I hung up the call.
In the past life, Azure wasn’t exposed like this. Henry protected her well. In my in-laws’ eyes, she was a simple girl whom Henry pursued relentlessly, so accepting her later wasn’t too difficult.
It’s different now. My relationship with my mother-in-law is closer than in the previous life. Some unpleasant signs have become apparent sooner.
So her chances of entering The Preston Family have gone from easy mode to hard mode.
