After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love-Chapter 95: Henry Preston Comes Calling
Just as I hung up the phone to find Dylan Dawson, Azure’s friend passed by me, deliberately bumping hard into my shoulder.
"Stop right there!" I wouldn’t let her off easily either, grabbing her arm and saying coldly, "Are you blind? Apologize to me!"
Just as I finished speaking, one of her bandmates ran over and called her, "Joy Lawson!"
Joy glanced at the friend who ran over, then forcefully shook off my hand, "Auntie, why are you grabbing me?"
She was about the same age as Azure but called me "auntie," making her meaning quite clear.
"What’s going on?" Joy’s friend asked.
"It’s this old woman who caused Azure to attempt suicide!" Joy directly pinned the blame on me.
Her friend’s gaze instantly turned hostile towards me.
I felt both angry and amused, "I caused Azure harm? If she hadn’t done anything wrong, why would she try to commit suicide? Have you fed all the books you’ve read to dogs? Have you no sense of propriety?"
"Azure has been rejecting your husband all along!" Joy was furious, "It’s your husband who’s been pestering her. Why don’t you blame him? Besides, who doesn’t know that your marriage is just a business arrangement? You’re just a bitter old woman who can’t get a man’s love!"
Not far off, Dylan seemed to notice I was having a confrontation with someone and walked over.
He stood beside me, "What’s going on?"
Joy looked at Dylan, obviously stunned. Girls of her age often have a crush on handsome guys. I noticed earlier that while she was performing, she was looking at both Dylan and me.
Perhaps in the crowd, she thought Dylan and I didn’t know each other.
"These two young ladies are standing up for their friend," I laughed, "You know the friend too, the one who made the headlines with Henry Preston recently."
Dylan’s face showed a subtle change, and his eyes turned a bit displeased. He grabbed my hand, "Birds of a feather flock together, why bother with such people?"
His words angered Joy, who stood in front of us, righteously asking, "Handsome guy, haven’t you heard the saying ’Love knows no first come, first served?’ The one not loved is the mistress!"
"Azure is innocent. She was forced to have feelings. Why are you bullying her?"
I was truly amazed; they were all brainless.
At first, I thought they might have been deceived by Azure’s one-sided story, unaware of the truth. Now it seems they’ve become the first batch of fans of that legendary love story.
If that’s the case, I must make them suffer.
"Right, you’re absolutely right." I applauded, "I actually thought the same way before, so I filed for divorce, ready to fulfill them, but seeing how excited you are, I’ve changed my mind. I’ll withdraw the lawsuit tomorrow."
After I said this, Joy’s expression became quite colorful. She exchanged a glance with her friend and stammered, "You, you wouldn’t dare withdraw the lawsuit!"
"Tsk, when your dear friend Azure finds out, she’ll probably think you two are idiots, right? She’s about to get legitimacy, and you two brainless fools messed it up." I said with a smile.
Joy was anxious, "No, you can’t withdraw the lawsuit!"
I couldn’t be bothered with her anymore, turned around, and left. She tried to follow me again, but I rudely pushed her away. She lost her balance and fell to the ground, looking angry and not daring to do anything to me.
"I’m telling you, if you dare touch me again, I have ways to deal with you. Do you think Henry Preston married me because of my family background? It’s better than you naive little fools. Why don’t you blame Azure for being born into the wrong family?" I cursed at Joy irritably.
Joy looked straight at me, her eyes full of frustration and anger, but she didn’t dare to say anything more.
Her friend helped her up, and they walked away, dejected.
Dylan Dawson furrowed his brows, "You’re going to withdraw the lawsuit?"
Crystal Dawson must have told him about my filing for divorce.
"Yes, I want Azure to keep her status as a mistress a little longer, or else I can’t swallow this!" That’s truly what I thought.
Even her friends dared to come spew nonsense at me, why should I quickly give up my position to fulfill them?
Dylan Dawson hesitated, but finally smiled gently, "Well, I support you." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
After wandering around a bit more, Dylan Dawson and I went our separate ways, and I went straight back to my apartment.
The next day, I promptly withdrew the lawsuit, but the news still reached Henry Preston.
He called me, his voice cold and deep, "Where are you?"
"What do you want?" I was lying on the sofa, applying a face mask and eating fruit, speaking indistinctly.
"Did you go and file for divorce?" Henry Preston asked.
"Yes, you refused to sign the divorce papers, didn’t you?" I sighed, "Sigh, I also saw the video of you saving Azure. I originally wanted to back out and fulfill your wishes, but last night I ran into Azure’s two friends. What they said suddenly enlightened me."
Henry Preston said nothing, seemingly waiting for me to continue.
So I went on, "Her friends said I’m the mistress, that love knows no first come, first served, Azure is innocent, and I’m the one who harmed her. You see, I’ve been charged with so many offenses that I must carry them out to do them justice."
"So I withdrew the lawsuit, surprised?"
Henry Preston’s breathing became a bit heavier, presumably from anger, though whether it was from me filing for divorce or withdrawing it wasn’t clear.
I thought he was about to lose his temper, but instead, he calmly said, "Earlier, I misunderstood you about my mom approaching Azure. I investigated it; it has nothing to do with you."
"..." I didn’t even know how to respond.
"I’m at Maplewood Gardens, come over, let’s talk." He continued, "Or tell me your address, and I’ll come over."
Upon hearing that, I immediately hung up the phone, I’m not going to talk!
But I underestimated Henry Preston’s abilities. If he could find Azure who was about to attempt suicide, how could he not find me, perfectly fine?
Around six in the evening, he rang my doorbell.
I was about to cook, having ordered grocery delivery, thinking it was the delivery guy, so I opened the door without checking the monitor.
The moment I saw Henry Preston, I quickly closed the door.
But he was faster than me, blocking the door with his hand, then with a gloomy face, practically dragged me to the living room.
"Tell me why you filed for divorce?" Henry Preston placed me on the sofa to sit down, then questioned me condescendingly.
In recent days, he probably hadn’t slept well; there were slight dark circles under his eyes, making him seem even more irritable.
"Didn’t I withdraw the lawsuit?" I retorted confidently.
Henry Preston was so annoyed he laughed, "Where did you learn this nonsense logic?"
