After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me-Chapter 230: I’m Pregnant (Part 34)
"Isn’t love something that can be developed over time? Even though I’ve known him for many years, we haven’t really interacted much. He’s good friends with my brother. He’s handsome, has a nice voice, a good character, and is really interesting. We’re well-matched in every way, and his parents like me a lot. In marriage, I won’t have to live with grievances. Under the same roof, is it really so hard to come to like each other over time?"
"Don’t say those things just to make me give up." Logan Moore’s face was pale. "I know it’s hard for you right now, so I won’t pressure you. I’m giving you the time to handle it. Go to the registry again with him and call off the wedding."
"I can’t do that," Lily Green refused. "Logan, I know full well what the consequences of being with you are. That’s why I said we should part ways. Even if I didn’t get married, the result wouldn’t change. It’s not just one mountain between you and me, it’s a hundred."
"Even if it’s a thousand mountains, you can eventually cross them if you persist!" His voice suddenly became hoarse. "You keep saying you like me, but your so-called affection was just fleeting. I’m not that important to you at all, otherwise how could you so willingly marry someone else so quickly?"
"It’s not like that," Lily cried, "I really do like you. It’s not just a fleeting feeling. It’s precisely because I knew that even if I crossed a thousand mountains, we could never be together, that I thought marriage would force me to give up on you and you to give up on me."
He wrapped his arm around her neck, pressing his head against hers. "You’re mine. The only way I’ll give up on you is if I’m dead."
Lily’s heart skipped a beat, "Logan..."
"Be good, and get the process done with him."
Getting a divorce certificate right after getting a marriage certificate, how big a humiliation would that be for the Sheppard Family?
Lily knew very well.
Moreover, she never intended to do that. She was going to marry, how could she go back on her word?
If there was even a slight way to be with Logan, she wouldn’t have gone on blind dates and gotten married.
Lily closed her eyes and opened them again, pushing him away and stood up, "Even if you were with me, your family would end up ruined, you and your parents would be in grave danger. Would you still insist?"
Logan looked at her with sharp eyes, unable to answer for a moment.
"My grandmother has explicitly stated that even if I were pregnant with your child, she wouldn’t agree to us being together. On the contrary, if I don’t break up with you, your temple will cease to exist. As for you, I don’t even know if she would send someone to kill you. You grew up in the temple, learning only truth, kindness, and beauty. You don’t understand the darker side of society. I can’t protect you. I knew my family would oppose us being together, but I didn’t realize it would be this serious. If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone to the Grand Saint Temple. Your parents, your family, your Buddhist studies are the most important to you. You’ve lived well for over twenty years without me, and you will continue to do so."
After saying that, she turned and walked towards the door. Logan hysterically shouted at her retreating figure, "Lily Green! You can’t leave!"
Lily closed the door, sat on a nearby chair, and buried her head in her arms, crying silently.
Her tears were almost dried up during this period.
From a young age, proud and thinking life was free.
Cried for half an hour.
Drove back to Watercloud Villas, it was already past five.
Winter mornings brighten late, and now it was pitch black except for the streetlights.
She stepped out of the car in slippers, holding the car keys, and entered.
She climbed the stairs, pushed open the bedroom door. A small lamp at the bed head was on, Elijah Sheppard was fast asleep.
Lily tiptoed in, went to the bedside, then turned and sat on the sofa.
Sitting alone, clearly tired but unable to sleep.
Sitting there until Elijah Sheppard woke up.
He leaned against the bedhead, looking at her face, eyes swollen like walnuts. "How’s the person you visited?"
Lily looked up, "Pulled through."
He pushed off the bed, and when Lily saw he was only wearing boxers, she immediately turned her head away.
"Why so shy? We’re married, we’ll be doing things that married couples do."
Lily stood up, "I’m going to brush my teeth, car keys are on the coffee table."
Elijah went to the wardrobe, dressing leisurely.
Lily, having brushed her teeth and washed her face, immediately got into bed.
Elijah came out, saw her lying down, walked to the bed, and as he approached, Lily instinctively shifted inward.
This move wasn’t to make room but to avoid him.
He bent over, with his elbow on the sheet.
Elijah’s voice was naturally pleasing, and when gentler, even more so. "Before we got engaged, I asked if you regretted it. You said no. Once an arrow is loosed, it doesn’t return. In my eyes, there’s only widowed, not divorced. Remember that."
After speaking, he straightened up, picked up the car keys from the coffee table, opened the door, and went downstairs.
——
At midnight, Lucy went to the hospital to visit James Foster. He had been moved to a VIP ward.
She wanted to go in, but without a pass, she had to leave.
In the morning, she went to the ophthalmology institute, and around eleven, Jacob Green suddenly arrived.
White turtleneck sweater, with a black cashmere coat over it.
His presence commanded attention wherever he went.
Director Finn greeted him immediately, "Mr. Green, you’re here."
"Just came to take a look, you guys carry on, don’t mind me."
"Understood."
Lucy Eaton, stealing a glance, saw him approaching her direction, feeling inexplicably nervous.
Did he have to be so blatant?
"Miss Tia."
"Hmm?"
He stopped beside her, his gaze deep and voice low, "I asked you out last night, why didn’t you come?"
"Elliot Gill came back, dragged me to watch a movie after dinner, watched till ten at night."
"What kind of movie was so captivating? A-grade, B-grade, or C-grade?"
Lucy’s face flushed slightly, "What are you talking about, it was that new cop film."
His frown relaxed, "Are you free this afternoon?"
She nodded, "Yes."
"What time?"
"Two to five."
"Come see me." He said, and left.
Lucy watched him walk away before withdrawing her gaze.
In the afternoon, she had to fish for information from him about James Foster.
At noon, Lucy returned to Newhope Commons to cook for Elliot Gill. He almost always timed it perfectly, arriving just after she finished.
"Perfect timing again today?"
Lucy took off her apron, "Indeed, precisely on time."
"Are you not feeling well?"
"Why do you say that?"
"You looked under the weather since I got back yesterday evening."
