Chapter 1395: State of Hubble Town

In another Villa, another aborigine woman was sitting on the veranda, eyes staring at her garden in deep thought. She sighed, gripping the piece of parchment in her hand.

At this time, the effect of the dye had already washed off, and she was now back with her pink—albeit shorter—hair.

She was still very beautiful, and the light of the moon shining down on her when most of her house’s lights had been dimmed made her look gorgeous.

"Aren’t you going to bed, Miss?" Vivi said, handing over the tea she requested.

"I need more time to think," she said, and the maid stood by, like a proper lady-in-waiting.

She was doing her job, as always, but Veronica saw that she was just a bit anxious. The maid was playing with her own hands, as if trying to comfort herself.

"Your family is fine," she said, making Vivi raise her head to stare at her.

"Go rest, I want to be alone."

"Thank you, Miss," Vivi said, finally leaving Veronica alone in her own thoughts.

Like in Jacoba Town, her own home at Hubble Town had also encountered a couple of changes.

Fortunately, nothing she did to help the Golds reached anywhere else, so she did not bring any sort of trouble to her parents except for a bit of anxiety.

However, Lord Bleumrick still threatened the supplies coming to her hometown, despite her father doing as they were told. Her father still had no choice but to pay a high amount for the same resources.

It was unfair, but they could do nothing.

Cities generally controlled a region. It wasn’t necessarily always the case, but it was the natural progression of development. After all, if a territory did not have enough Prestige—which was mostly on how much they affected the nearby territories—they wouldn’t be cities in the first place.

Jacoba Town, Ester Town, and Hubble Town were some of the main towns that had interlinked with Bleuelle City. The Jacoba and Ester war did not have much effect on Bleulle of course, but she had a feeling that the trigger of the war also had to do with what had been happening in Bleuelle with the Golds and all.

She was actually right about this, though she would only find out about it some time later.

The Golds was a large family with strong influence.

Although they might seem unassuming when you talk with them now—they were probably relaxing at home having tea at this time—their disappearance actually shook Bleuelle to its core.

They held various industries under them, the largest of which was the handling of the Blu.

Such a big piece of meat was naturally targeted by various families and the Lord himself. However, even if it was the Lord himself, how likely could there be a decent turnover?

A lot of knowledge was taken by the Golds and their servants. While they had maintained a lot of the old workers, there were still a lot of gaps that had ultimately added unnecessary costs to the operations. In fact, it seemed like there was a lot of wastage involved too, and this was extremely painful considering the Blu was already a dwindling resource.

As for the industries the Lord showed little interest in—for instance, Olga’s shops—they were also divided up amongst the elite families, which also caused quite a bit of conflict.

Some people even resorted to assassination.

The most famous recent case was a poisoning case where a lady from one family held a tea party and invited many families, including rival ones. She had the gall to poison everyone in attendance.

Unfortunately for her, it seemed like she overestimated her poison and underestimated the resources of the other ladies’ families, and they only got seriously ill but no one died.

That person was now in prison and it was later found out that her husband had been trying to take her off the position of being mistress of the house to give way to one of his concubines. In desperation, she did something so extreme.

It was unclear, however, if she did this in an attempt to help him and consolidate her position, or to push him in major trouble which ultimately was what happened in the end.

It had to be said: if there was a lot of drama going on in the Northwest, there was also a lot going on in the Southeast. There were more and more underlying tensions that were happening all around, some blatant while some were more subtle.

Anyway, the chaos in Bleuelle affected their subsidiaries, allies, and all nearby territories, especially those who had connections to the noble houses there.

For example, as was the case with Ester and Jacoba. Other than the vengeance mission for the heir’s deaths, it also had a lot to do with their connections with Bleuelle.

Ester was close to the Trion Family, with a few intermarriages in the family tree. Because the Trion family had been vying to gain the position of being the family next to the lord, they aimed to gain more power and resources.

One of the ways to do this was to strengthen Ester, one of their closest relationships. To do this had always been through wars, and they happened to have a grudge against Jacoba—which made things even more perfect for the Trion family.

Jacoba Town was actually linked to another Bleuelle Family, the Sephon Family. Cassandra’s father was actually the cousin of the Sephon Family patriarch.

The Sephon family was not nearly as big as the Trion family. However, they were arrogant and had tried to pry away many of Otto’s businesses, which irked Trion quite a lot.

With the fall of the Golds, an opening was created among the ’inner’ families, and the Sephon family believed that once they entered there, they were on the same level as the Trions, so they didn’t show as much fear as they would’ve otherwise.

It was not only the Sephon family, either, but several mid-level noble families.

Anyway, it was very chaotic and Vanessa could only hope her family would not experience any worse.
