After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1869: Symposium
Althea knew that a lot of people had to be involved to maximize and expedite the use of a new resource.
They held a long meeting at the auditorium to discuss this new finding. Every Research Center scientist in all related fields came to join and watch, and most importantly—to contribute.
The way they’d do this was that someone who knew about the topic would deliberate everything they knew about the item. There would be questions and answers, and the speaker would answer if they knew, and they’d list it out to study if not.
There was absolutely no shame to admit that they did not know something here. Anyway, even if they didn’t, they eventually would.
There would also be plenty of debates, as there always were in a meeting between intellectuals who aimed to do something.
Some debates ended up causing tension, especially when the level of the scientist added pressure when they were angry, but with Althea there (and Mathilda, as one of the coordinators) calmed things down.
The best ’calming agent’ was the flowing tea and snacks, all of which were designed to calm and clear the mind. For example, chamomile-lemon tea and sweet tarts, among many others.
There were also more organized debates of course, though they didn’t have much time to prepare, because everyone was smart (and ready to argue), it still ended up being a productive debate.
They would often use the Socratic method, and sometimes a team would run down to the lab and try out some conjectures and then run back up with results. There were some lull times, but people just talked with each other or rested while waiting. Overall, the activity was fun and enlightening.
The aborigines, for one, certainly enjoyed it to heck.
For most of their lives, they kept to themselves. If they taught something, it was only to a select group of people. The exchange of ideas existed, especially for more open-minded scholars, but it was still limited.
Now, it felt like their minds were opened, squeezed, and spread many times. It was quite an interesting experience.
The symposium lasted well into the night, so there was an impromptu buffet for a late dinner in the entrance hall of the auditorium.
To summarize the discussions, they all decided that the nuclear cores could be a long life power source for their sensitive items.
They concluded that it was unlikely to be dangerous for basic uses, and if they wanted to push its use, they’d need to do a few more experiments. They assigned a team to do these experiments, and the results were open for everyone in the Research Center.
By now, everyone was aware that one team’s research could help out, expedite, improve, or even change the direction of the other research and projects. Publicizing it internally could save a large amount of time and resources, and they had seen this happen many times.
For something like the nuclear core—something that could be a potential power source—even more so.
There was plenty of research they could start with, stemming from this. Lin had more than once mentioned she needed a large amount of uninterrupted electricity to do her assignments.
Her main project, the portable gun, was still in the experimental stage, and using the old methods was insufficient. The criel was a difficult item to work with, too, so it was taking a while.
And even if she succeeded, she reckoned the power of the gun would only be stronger than Terran guns, which had limited effects on monsters above level 5.
They needed a few more things for it to be an actual weapon, and she had a feeling this new discovery could help out.
Not only Lin, but several other departments were eager to see this research bear fruit. Even powering the hospital could use a completely uninterrupted power source, let alone some research.
Basically, if their theory was correct, a single nuclei could power a residential neighborhood for a few months. Considering how endless those undead seemed to be, wouldn’t they have a lot of them?
They should also strengthen the exchange between them and Dune Town.
Regardless of how it would end, things were really exciting for everyone—and they all looked forward to an even greater future.
Other than the future uses, they also discussed safety measures. They also had to make sure that it wouldn’t suddenly react during certain conditions or when in contact with other items.
They’d be treating their reaction to various materials, especially those they’d come in contact with, if they were really going to be used. They would be testing these outside just in case, and the testers would be equipped well before trying things out.
Further, if the study truly proved that the nuclear beads would be useful, they’d buy them in bulk.
They had a partnership with Dune Town, and they would happily take this deal if offered to them.
Anything that could be traded with Alterra was a good thing.
The meeting ended well into the night, past the babies bed time. Althea felt pity she wasn’t able to tuck them to bed tonight, but it is what it is.
Unexpectedly, when she entered the villa, the door burst open, followed by toddling children.
They were already in their nightly onesie pajamas. Very cute.
"Mamaaaa!" Baby Pepper yelled, her little feet moving so quickly.
"Mamaaaahh!!!" Baby Meatball also yelled, moving even faster.
Althea blinked and immediately kneeled down to catch the children.
Her heart was soft as she felt their softness and their warmth, and all her tiredness was flushed away.
...
Her husband arrived shortly after that. He had been training in the Training Hall for a while, knowing that she was very busy with her own things.
He joined them in bed after taking a bath, giving her a kiss on the forehead, and giving the sleeping babies soft smooches on their faces.
The children had fallen asleep nearly as soon as they got to bed, as if they fought their drowsiness to wait for her.
They tried not to fall asleep at first, but she just had to monologue some complicated terms, and they were softly snoring a minute later.
The couple chuckled, and they embraced each other a bit tighter, following their children into slumber.
