After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 42 - 27: Kill a Dragon to Test the Waters
"Welcome to Sky City,"
As they disembarked the ship, an elderly man dressed in formal attire, his hair graying, approached them with several maids who possessed both grace and beauty following him.
"Xi Mu, I am Cano, assigned to receive you." He looked at the silver-armored knight before him and elegantly bowed, then turned to look behind him.
The grand carriage had already been waiting.
"Hmm." Xi Mu nodded slightly, turning his gaze to Letixia, who blinked her emerald eyes and then stepped forward to handle the conversation in his stead.
Normally, the player would engage in conversation, using speech to trigger various reactions from this reception butler. However, he truly did not wish to waste energy on trivial chatter with an irrelevant NPC, and at this moment, the superiority of Letixia, a royal heir, became apparent.
She dealt with the meaningless, tedious dialogue while all he needed to do was give simple nods or shakes of his head, which was extremely effortless and comfortable.
After a brief exchange, Xi Mu, Letixia, and Jed were seated in the carriage, and as the wheels turned, the portrait scroll of Sky City unfolded.
Compared to Lionheart Castle, this place was more prosperous by a notch, with layered high-rise buildings everywhere, and the pedestrians on the roads even more stylish and impressive.
On the surface, the city seemed orderly, and everyone was exceedingly kind, with neatly segmented areas marked by stone pavements.
Unfortunately, the city’s secret darkness was not necessarily lesser than that of a small village, rather, it was even more sordid, like sludge.
If the player took the initiative to delve deeper into the city, they would encounter all kinds of disgusting events, giving birth to a desire to burn the city down.
Some time later,
The carriage stopped.
Xi Mu descended the steps extended from the carriage, and a castle reeking of ancient history came into view.
This was where Siegfried resided.
"His Majesty is waiting in the courtyard for Sir Xi Mu," the old man said, maintaining a refined smile as he led Xi Mu, Letixia, and Jed through twists and turns to a beautifully scenic courtyard.
"You have arrived earlier than I anticipated," a hearty laugh echoed as Xi Mu looked towards the source, only to see Siegfried shirtless, sitting before a massive stone table with a bold and liberating smile.
"Having run so far, you must be thirsty and hungry, right?" He gestured towards the fine wine and food on the table, "Help yourself, it’s all prepared for you."
"Thank you," Xi Mu said, taking a seat without any reservation, while Letixia and Jed seemed a bit more restrained.
Now they were facing a leader of a powerful nation, and the legendary dragon-slaying hero, it was natural to be cautious.
In response, Siegfried waved his hand: "Since you are all family of Ahtal, please, have a seat."
Letixia and Jed exchanged a glance and settled down quietly. They now had to leave the initiative to Xi Mu to lead.
At this point, it was impossible for Letixia to take charge of the conversation; the player had to face the plot themselves.
It was a kind of unskippable scenario.
"Shall we start the lesson straight away?" Xi Mu asked, as he enjoyed the feast on the table and even downed a glass of strong liquor as if he had known Siegfried for ages.
"Lessons, at least not until tomorrow," Siegfried stroked his chin and explained, "Even if I am to teach an apprentice, I need to offer a bit of a sweetener first, to let you understand the benefits of being my disciple and also to make everyone aware of your presence."
Saying this, he patted Xi Mu on the shoulder.
"There is a gathering prepared for you tonight; it will surely make you forget home."
"Is that so?" Xi Mu’s eyes sparkled with anticipation as Siegfried glanced at the demurely seated Letixia and swallowed back the content of the gathering.
He merely patted Xi Mu on the shoulder, giving him a knowing look.
"It’s a special banquet prepared for you."
"This treatment, it’s good to the point of feeling somewhat unreal," Xi Mu frowned, pausing his meal to question Siegfried, "Besides asking me to kill you, are there no other requests?"
"Was it that obvious?" Siegfried smiled, picking up a wine glass from the table and draining it in one gulp, "It’s hard to say whether it’s a demand or a gift to you."
He pointed to a red-haired young woman sitting under a nearby tree, who was scrutinizing Xi Mu with a dissatisfied look.
"My daughter; you can choose to marry her or become her brother. Of course, you can also choose to do nothing, as long as you become a Sage who protects the nation."
He poured himself another glass of wine.
"If you marry her, as long as you ensure a child of my daughter succeeds as king, you will be able to exercise the powers of a king in Sky City. If you become her brother, you will also receive extremely favorable treatment and the full support of Sky City."
"And if you become a Sage, we will also offer you special treatment."
Xi Mu nodded calmly, "So the cost is to protect this nation after your death, right?"
"Right," Siegfried acknowledged promptly. He glanced at the slightly uneasy Letixia, roughly guessing why Xi Mu hesitated; having a beauty by his side, one must behave a bit more reservedly and not just ask for what one wants outright.
