After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 46 - 29: Preparing to Slay the Dragon
The atmosphere became stagnant.
The Witch of Death silently gazed at the silver-clad Knight before her—the only being who could endow deities with the concept of death.
This was no longer an enemy of the gods, but rather their natural predator.
And yet, this man claimed he liked her, while also fancying the Goddess of Life. Could his mental state really be... normal?
"Don’t look at me with that ’are you sick?’ expression," Xi Mu waved his hand as he observed the Witch of Death’s subtle expressions and began to explain:
"Death and life are a perfect opposition." His gaze was serious as he earnestly spouted nonsense, "And the person who truly represents the concept of death is not the Goddess of Death who governs Hell, but you who hold the scepter of death."
"What the Goddess of Death controls is more about reincarnation rather than death, while the death you bestow is the true end of everything."
"Death is not the end of the soul, but the end of a person, the full stop that declares the cessation of life; only that can be called true death."
"To have one’s memory erased after death and to be reborn is not death." His calm voice carried a determined belief.
Xi Mu appeared to fully believe in his own words, even though from his point of view, it was undoubtedly a good thing for a person to have an afterlife.
But as a gamer, there was really no need for him to debate philosophical issues; he only needed to know how to trick the Witch of Death’s power.
After all, to vanquish the cursed dragon without the Witch of Death’s power, he wouldn’t even be able to break the dragon’s defenses.
"You see faith as based on philosophy rather than position," the Witch of Death said with a slight nod, accepting the man’s argument.
Her sapphire eyes reflected the figure of the Knight before her.
"Then what is the reason for your summoning?"
"A deeper death," Xi Mu answered without hesitation, and the Witch of Death was not surprised. She maintained her usual cold and mysterious tone.
"Fine, but I require you to sacrifice ten souls of grave sinners to me."
"No problem," Xi Mu readily agreed, watching as the body of the Witch of Death, now beginning to burn with a faint blue ghostly fire, prepared to leave, he said:
"Sacrificing souls after death is too troublesome, how about I kill and sacrifice them to you now instead?"
"To kill and sacrifice now?" The Witch of Death stopped her intended departure, a hint of confusion in her sapphire-like eyes.
This was the first time she had encountered such a thing; those humans who had yearned for her power previously always conducted the summoning ritual after the killing.
She had never encountered a sacrifice ritual with immediate killing.
"It won’t take long; I’ll just kill ten grave sinners right in front of you," Xi Mu said with a smile.
"Wouldn’t it save you the time of making another trip?"
That sounded reasonable.
The Witch of Death felt that there might be some sense in what this human said, but something felt off, as though something wasn’t quite right.
However, Xi Mu did not give her time to think, continuing, "Let’s go now and find ten souls of grave sinners. This city is not only rich in money but also abundant with souls steeped in sin. It will be easy to find ten such souls just by walking around."
He opened the window and gestured to the Witch of Death.
"It won’t take much time, much more efficient than making another trip."
The Witch of Death: "..."
Forget it, she was also curious to see what other astonishing things this peculiarly-minded human might do.
Hiding her form, she chose to follow Xi Mu and leave together.
...
...
Meanwhile.
Inside the dimly lit meeting hall.
A dozen nobles sat at the dining table, raising glasses filled with fresh blood, talking elegantly, while each of them was accompanied by a beautiful young girl.
They were pale-faced from excessive blood loss, their hands and feet bound by chains, and their hollow gazes filled with despair.
They were captives not of vampires... but more accurately, of a group of nobles who aspired to become vampires.
And the young girls were the blood bags chosen by the nobles, handy for their feasting at any moment.
"After drinking the blood of a virgin girl, I feel myself growing even younger," a noblewoman touched her cheek, gracefully sipping the blood from her glass.
"Immortality is getting closer and closer to me."
"Madam Xi Peiluo, you... have become more like a vampire than the vampires themselves," a nobleman raised his glass, offering a compliment.
However, he did not see the smile in response from Xi Peiluo; instead, he saw the horror in her eyes, as if she had seen a devil behind him.
Before he could turn around, he felt a chill on his neck, then saw a silver-clad Knight burst forth, trampling the wooden table to rush at Xi Peiluo, and with one stroke, split Madam Xi Peiluo in two.
Then he felt his field of vision turn upside down, falling towards the ground, even though his body had not moved.
Ah... it was because his head had been chopped off.
"Wait, don’t kill me!" the remaining nobles’ panicked pleas for mercy, as they scrambled on the ground, clinging to the pillars of the hall, tears and snot smeared across their faces.
Xi Mu remained unshaken, expressionless as he swung the Hunting King’s Greatsword; with a spray of blood, the noble before him was robbed of life.
The Sky City was incredibly prosperous, but also contained pitch-black, muddied sins that were repulsive.
"Souls of great sin are more than ten," he turned around, looking at the Witch of Death sitting by the window.
The Witch of Death surveyed the scene, glanced at the cowering girls, then turned her gaze back to Xi Mu.
