After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 45 - 28 Can’t you like a goddess if you like a witch?_2
"What’s the matter, can’t we talk now?" the red-haired princess crossed her arms with dissatisfaction. What was this man’s deal, speaking to himself like that.
Could it be he thought she was an easy woman to handle?
"I want to go to pray to the Goddess," Xi Mu explained, maintaining a gentle smile and taking out the amulet he wore on his chest.
"After all, the Goddess has granted me... shelter, I should let Her know that I am safe and sound."
The red-haired princess fell silent for a moment, recognizing the necklace on Xi Mu’s chest, a token of grace from the Goddess of Life, which belonged to a follower of the Goddess of Life.
"Come with me," she said, turning around and leading Xi Mu toward the chapel of the Goddess of Life.
...
...
On the way,
the carriage was somewhat bumpy.
"Yasiraqi, that’s my name," the red-haired princess said as she looked at the silver-armored knight seated with proper posture beside her, gently placing her hand over her chest.
"Ahtal, what kind of relationship do you hope for us to have?"
"The relationship is up to you, Your Highness," Xi Mu responded with a smile, handing the decision back to her—not that he intended to follow through with all honesty. Coming to Sky City was only for Siegfried’s magic; nothing else mattered much.
Including the dazzling red-haired princess before him.
Yasiraqi frowned in displeasure, looking at the man who kept a gentle smile: "Even if I want you to become a Sage, would you accept without hesitation?"
"Certainly," Xi Mu replied without hesitation, "Your life is naturally for you to decide for yourself, I will not force you to do anything you are unwilling to do."
His voice suddenly softened.
"Your Highness, you yearn for freedom, just by looking into your eyes, I can understand that, so I will not force you to make any choices."
This man... might not be bad after all.
The thought suddenly crossed Yasiraqi’s mind, and her gaze toward Xi Mu softened, the hostility in her eyes fading.
She casually brushed a lock of hair behind her ear and asked.
"If I choose to become husband and wife, what would you do?"
"Then I would need to consider it," Xi Mu answered seriously, causing Yasiraqi’s expression to harden.
A strong sense of defeat overwhelmed her, and at that moment she suddenly realized something— even if she was willing to marry, this honorable knight might not be willing.
The most likely relationship between them was that of siblings or a superior-subordinate dynamic.
"Your Highness, are you feeling unwell?" Xi Mu cocked his head, looking at Yasiraqi whose complexion had turned stiff, unable to speak suddenly.
There was silence for a moment. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Is it that you look down on me?" Yasiraqi glared at Xi Mu, feeling a strong sense of displeasure. Just before, she had been struggling with the idea that if Xi Mu chose to marry, she might have to refuse, but now she was instead upset about why Xi Mu wouldn’t choose to marry.
The focus of her concern had switched in an instant.
"No," Xi Mu replied as if he had not noticed Yasiraqi’s displeasure, seriously talking nonsense:
"You are undoubtedly a beauty, especially the determined sparkle in your eyes, as dazzling as rubies. Surely no one would look down on you."
"Then what is the real reason for not choosing to marry me?" Yasiraqi asked back curiously, although her self-assessment might be somewhat narcissistic.
But she was indeed a rare beauty.
To this, Xi Mu’s answer was: "Even if you are a beauty, it is not the reason I would marry you."
He looked out the window.
"The one I’d want to marry is someone who has been by my side for a longer time, even if she does not have your kind of beauty and charm."
"Is it that little princess?" Yasiraqi realized, she was aware of Letixia, a princess from a remote area; to her, Letixia was not much different from a country girl, anyway, both from small places.
Xi Mu did not answer, maintaining a gentle smile.
Yasiraqi puffed her cheeks in frustration. It seemed like this man was looking down on her, how infuriating—and yet there was nothing she could do about it, as his words were all reasonable.
"Hmph," she snorted softly, turning her head away from Xi Mu, but after a moment, she couldn’t resist initiating a conversation.
Now she had no thoughts of resistance against Xi Mu—after all, he was the one who had given her the choice, yet he still might not find her appealing.
So she could chat with Xi Mu without any reservations, and find out more about this man who her father viewed in a special light.
What could be so special about it?
A moment later.
Church.
Xi Mu stepped down from the carriage, entering the church with Yasiraqi. He approached the statue of the deity and began to pray, clasping his hands tightly together, initiating his silent petition.
While it was a prayer, it seemed more like a monologue. He recounted the events that had unfolded in Forge City, selectively narrating how he escaped and swore to the statue that he would one day seek revenge against the lava giant.
For the countless unjustly dead souls of Forge City.
Though in reality he just wanted to farm experience points, as long as he couched it in the right language, the whole act took on a noble shine.
At least to Yasiraqi at his side, it seemed filled with... a hero’s radiance, the resolution to challenge a being with a Divine Artifact for the sake of innocents who had died unjustly.
That was not a vow any regular person would dare make.
After praying for a while,
Xi Mu felt the gaze upon him soften, and even the Life amulet on his chest began glowing faintly.
Hmm, it seemed the Goddess of Life had heard his prayers.
"Let’s go," he lowered his hands and smiled at Yasiraqi beside him. Together, they left.
Nightfall.
"Ha... my daughter, you seem in good spirits," Siegfried said, drinking his strong liquor and looking at his daughter beside him.
Even though she had seemed downcast just yesterday.
"Really?" Yasiraqi touched her cheek, remembering why she was in a good mood.
She explained to her father,
"I just think Ahtal is... not that detestable. I had a bit of contact with him today, he’s a true Knight, and he gave me the right to choose."
Siegfried stroked his beard, listening to his daughter’s high praise for Ahtal and asked, "So what will you choose?"
Yasiraqi fell silent. Even if she wanted to choose... him, he might not necessarily agree, leaving only the sibling and Sage paths open.
The marriage proposal path wasn’t guaranteed to be accepted.
"Hahahaha, did you get rebuffed!" Siegfried laughed aloud, slapping his thigh and saying,
"Is it that Ahtal might not even want to marry you?"
"You... Hmph... Who says!" Yasiraqi said, her pretty face turning red with anger as she punched Siegfried.
Little did she know this action would make Siegfried laugh even louder, infuriating Yasiraqi immeasurably.
What kind of father teases his daughter like this?
Meanwhile.
Elsewhere.
Inside a dark room,
Xi Mu finished drawing a magic circle, then killed a living parrot and threw it into the center of the circle, beginning to chant the spell to summon the Witch.
As blue ghostly flames burned, the parrot turned to ashes.
The Witch of Death appeared, as mysterious and elusive as ever, with her hands interlaced before her chest, waves of blue curls cascading down, floating mid-air.
"Human, you carry a strong scent of divinity on you?" she said, her gaze cold as she looked at the silver-clad Knight.
Normally, she wouldn’t casually respond to someone’s summons, especially when the offering was merely a parrot.
However, this human had previously provided the location of the Goddess of Plague, and he himself possessed extraordinary Talent.
So, she gave him special treatment.
"Earlier, I prayed to the Goddess of Life at the church," Xi Mu explained the source of the scent.
"After contact with a divinity and then with a Witch, ah~ you truly are a strange human, it has become quite difficult to assess you." The Witch of Death shook her head, feeling... perplexed at Xi Mu’s actions.
Normal people do not exhibit such a spiritual dichotomy.
"What’s so strange about liking both the Goddess of Life and the Witch?" Xi Mu inquired in confusion, then spread his hands under the Witch of Death’s scrutiny.
"Has anyone stipulated that liking a Goddess means you cannot like a Witch?"
