After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 537 - 212: The Despair of Difference
"Come have some tea." The Pestilence Witch placed four cups of hot tea on the table, her gaze sweeping over Ahtal, the Goddess of Plague, Letixia, and Shark Girl Kaschte in turn.
She held the tea tray in her arms.
"I won’t disturb your gathering, I’m off to take a bath." As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and left. However, after taking a few steps, she reversed her steps and came back.
Then, under the watchful eyes of everyone, she picked up a cheese bread from the table and hurried away without lingering for a moment.
"After getting wet in the rain, a bath would indeed be more comfortable." Xi Mu picked up a cup of tea from the table, smiling at Letixia, "Would you like to take a bath first as well?"
"No worries, it’s not like a light rain will give me a cold." Letixia gently shook her head. She possessed a certain degree of Magic Power and wouldn’t catch a cold from the rain, unless she were in a weakened state and drenched by a downpour.
"She won’t catch a cold." The Goddess of Plague said with a beaming smile, and no one questioned it. As the deity controlling all diseases, when she declared that Letixia would not catch a cold, it became an established fact.
"Is this what you call a favor from the Goddess of Plague?" Xi Mu jokingly said, and then saw the Goddess of Plague’s soft laugh as she picked up a long bread from the table, pointing it at Ahtal’s cheek like a sword.
"If you really want to talk about favors, you have one from me on you."
"When did that happen?" Xi Mu asked while casually taking a bite of the bread pointed at him, causing the Goddess of Plague to roll her eyes, retract the bread pointed at Ahtal, and tear it into two halves.
After handing half the bread to Ahtal, she said:
"As the King of Ash, can you not sense the favor you possess?"
"It’s probably because your favor is too insignificant." Xi Mu said nonchalantly, nibbling on his half of the bread.
The Goddess of Plague’s cheeks puffed up slightly, and then she chuckled softly: "Is that why the great King of Ash has kept my favor all this time?"
She hadn’t noticed Ahtal carrying her favor before, but their recent interactions were extremely close, occasionally even incorporating zero-distance contact... well, zero-distance in the sense of feeding, where fingers might accidentally touch lips.
Only then did she realize that Ahtal had her favor on him.
The favors from the Witch of Death were all cleanly burned away, yet hers remained because it was too insignificant to notice.
Upon reflection, she found it quite amusing.
"I simply forgot to burn off the favor you bestowed." Xi Mu watched the Goddess of Plague’s smiling face, "I’ll burn it off when I find the time."
"You need to find the time to do that?" The Goddess of Plague covered her lips with a smile, "I hadn’t realized that the seemingly idle Ahtal was so busy with work."
Xi Mu bit into the bread: "Perhaps the importance of your favor is less than that of me eating bread."
The Goddess of Plague showed a surprised expression, covering her mouth with her hand and saying, "I didn’t know my favor meant so much to you."
Something wasn’t quite right.
Shark Girl Kaschte’s tail curled slightly. Although she couldn’t see Lord Ahtal, she could sense that the Goddess of Plague was relaxed and casual, obviously sharing an intimate relationship with Ahtal, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to joke with each other.
But could it be too intimate?
"Lord Ahtal, have you been staying here all this time?" She chose to speak up and interrupt, her eyes falling on Letixia, who was sitting elegantly and quietly, silently drinking tea on the side.
As if telling Lord Ahtal not to neglect his official girlfriend.
"Yes." Xi Mu’s attention was diverted, his gaze landing on Shark Girl Kaschte and then on Letixia, "To avoid the calamity and... regret, I chose to come save the Goddess of Plague in Lionheart Castle."
He took a sip of tea.
"Do you remember our escape from Lionheart Castle?"
Letixia nodded lightly: "That was because the death of the Goddess of Plague triggered a great disaster, forcing us to flee Lionheart Castle in a race against time."
"If it wasn’t for the headgear bestowed by the Goddess of Plague, we all would’ve perished in Lionheart Castle." Xi Mu turned to look at the Goddess of Plague and added, "So to prevent her from being killed again, I intervened in the past just a little."
The Goddess of Plague gave a grin, explaining to Letixia: "Had it not been for Ahtal’s advance warning, I might have been captured by the Avatar Witch and become an initial divine fatality."
"Is that so?" Letixia raised her hand to gather her hair by her ear, looking at the Goddess of Plague with a joyful smile, "It’s truly wonderful to see you safe and sound."
After understanding the cause and effect, she realized why Ahtal had been staying with the Goddess of Plague—it was to make up for the regret in his heart.
Their survival from Lionheart Castle was indeed thanks to the precious item bestowed by the Goddess of Plague.
Otherwise, she and Ahtal wouldn’t have been able to leave alive.
"But the danger still exists." The Goddess of Plague continued, "If they couldn’t capture me, the Avatar Witch would target the Pestilence Witch, using her power to unleash the pestilence."
She turned her gaze to Ahtal.
"That is why I live with Ahtal, to prevent the Pestilence Witch from being... killed."
Yeah, right.
Shark Girl Kaschte twisted her mouth into a wry smile. She had witnessed the Goddess of Plague’s reaction first-hand. Rather than staying to protect the Pestilence Witch, it seemed more like she stayed for Ahtal, and protecting the Pestilence Witch was just an excuse the Goddess of Plague used to convince herself.
