After work, start to speedrun the other world-Chapter 78 - 4: Becoming the Puppet Master to Farm Experience_2
The chilling death, if not scrutinized carefully, indeed resembled the power possessed by the followers of the Goddess of Death, yet this burning black flame was even purer.
Xi Mu withdrew his palm, speaking earnestly,
"If Teacher really can become a witch, perhaps I can summon the followers of death to invade the Magic Kingdom, creating an opportunity for Teacher."
"The followers of death, huh? They are quite a dangerous bunch," worried Hecate, her brows tightly furrowed at the thought of her disciple being involved with these people.
Xi Mu offered no explanation.
Hecate, seeing her disciple’s silent demeanor, also knew she could not change her disciple’s mind in a short time.
She took the initiative to change the subject.
"Given the current state of the Magic Kingdom, even if the followers of death invade, they are unlikely to threaten the Magic Queen."
Xi Mu inquired, "What if the children of the Magic Queen were to suddenly die?"
"The entire Magic Kingdom would fall into chaos," replied Hecate. The country was managed by the children of the Magic Queen, each wielding different authorities.
In the end, it was up to the Magic Queen to decide who was most suitable to inherit the kingdom.
This was naturally good for the Magic Queen, but for the nation, this management system of letting the children compete with each other for real power
was very likely to trigger contradictions and power struggles.
"Then kill them, create chaos," Xi Mu’s voice was cold, not at all like the upright knight, but more like a schemer behind the scenes.
However, for a player on multiple replays to turn out like this was also unavoidable; with too much foreknowledge and decent skills, it was easy to seem like a puppet master.
Of course, his original intention was just to level up quickly.
"I need to meet the followers of death first," said Hecate, not immediately agreeing, holding high caution concerning the followers of the Witch of Death.
These followers of death were the most dangerous cultists in the world, always dedicated to unsealing the Witch of Death and fond of creating death to please their deity.
From her perspective, they were nothing but lunatics.
Essentially no different from the followers of the Flame Giant Surter; it’s just that one worshipped life and death, the other desired to burn the world to ashes.
Both were lunatics; the difference was negligible.
"I’ll bring them to meet Teacher tomorrow," Xi Mu replied promptly, his experience in how to fool those death followers was quite rich.
Wait until tomorrow; he would find a few sacrifices, get the authorization from the Witch of Death, and then he could start grinding for experience.
"Although there is much I want to ask, let’s start learning first," Hecate shook her head slightly. She had more pressing matters but attached unexpected importance to teaching.
To her, the acquisition of knowledge was as essential as three meals a day, and since it was time to eat, as a teacher, she ought to nourish her disciple with knowledge.
Other matters could wait until after the disciple’s learning was complete.
After all, the current plans were not urgent; there was plenty of time to arrange everything, albeit a bit slower.
And Xi Mu did not resist, earnestly beginning his studies, well aware of Hecate’s... peculiar insistence, which bordered on obsession, when it came to acquiring knowledge and teaching.
After some time,
Learning was complete.
Xi Mu finally had the chance to talk about other matters, but Hecate did not have many questions, mainly asking how he had become a follower of the Witch of Death.
He slightly altered the story, claiming that his perception of "death" was different from ordinary people, believing that the true essence of death was controlled by the Witch of Death, which led him to worship her.
After his first sacrifice in Lionheart Castle, he received a response from the Witch of Death and thus obtained the power of death.
Hecate listened carefully, combining it with recent events, and immediately inferred a truth.
"The one who assassinated the Goddess of Plague was the Witch of Death," she nodded slightly, furrowing her brows, "But who has the power to free the Witch of Death from her seal?"
Xi Mu shook his head, "I’m not sure."
Hecate gave up further inquiry; becoming a witch was now her most crucial objective. Only as a witch would she have the chance to explore the truth.
"Disciple, go to sleep now," she smiled at Xi Mu, disappearing from the spot, and in the blink of an eye, Xi Mu found himself back in his hotel bedroom.
He glanced out the window, then pulled the covers over himself and lay down.
There was much to do tomorrow.
The next day.
Early morning.
Sunlight filtered through the window, falling upon the head of the bed.
Xi Mu yawned as he got out of bed and, upon opening the door to the living room, he was met with two pairs of resentful eyes belonging to Yasiraqi and Jed.
From the looks on their faces, it seemed they hadn’t slept well.
"What’s the matter, why the unhappy faces?" he asked, only to see Yasiraqi and Jed’s expressions turn even more aggrieved and dissatisfied.
Jed was the first to speak, "Boss, didn’t you say Hecate was supposed to come over to teach you last night?"
"We waited up until midnight, but Hecate never showed up." Yasiraqi added, explaining that she and Jed had waited a long time the previous night but hadn’t seen the legendary Mage appear.
Upon hearing this, Xi Mu’s face showed a moment of realization.
"Last night, Teacher appeared directly in my room, then in the blink of an eye, whisked me away to the hotel balcony for the lesson."
"Ah, is that so?" Jed’s face fell in disappointment, regretting that he hadn’t been able to witness the legendary Mage firsthand.
Yasiraqi was even more dejected; she had wanted to talk to Hecate and find out if she had the ability to interpret the Draconic legacy correctly.
"Perhaps Teacher deliberately avoided you two." Xi Mu considered, then quickly added.
"Don’t worry, I’ll ask Teacher tonight."
In fact, he was acutely aware of why Yasiraqi so desperately wanted to meet the Teacher, but this would only lead to greater despair for her.
With Hecate current abilities, she was incapable of properly interpreting the magic left by a top-tier Witch.
The Creation Witch, the being that devised the Dragonic magic, had a legendary past of having once kept deities as pets.
If not for the God of Omniscience casting the Creation Witch into Hell, perhaps she would have trained even more deities to become her pets.
Speaking of which... it’s worth mentioning that there is a vast disparity among the deities as well, aside from the likes of the God of Omniscience, Goddess of Life, or Goddess of Death, who are clearly powerful.
There are also goddesses who preside over "desserts" or gods who control "rain," indicating that deities can govern very narrow concepts.
Not every deity commands broad powers; otherwise, players would face a horde of mechanic freaks, vastly increasing the difficulty to beat the game.
Moreover, designing a bunch of outrageous mechanic freaks is exhausting, and the game developers wouldn’t be crazy enough to wear themselves out, let alone the players.
Thus, not all deities are overwhelmingly powerful.
"Right, I need to step out for a bit." Xi Mu seemed to remember something and said somewhat unwillingly.
"Teacher assigned me to independently research a project, not allowing any use of the wealthy lady’s resources or support from the subordinates."
Jed inquired curiously, "Boss, what are you going to do?"
"It’s confidential for now." Xi Mu waved his hand, freshened up, and then hurriedly left the hotel.
Seeing this, Yasiraqi shook her head helplessly, then went out shopping with Jed, planning to meet with some top officials of the Magic Kingdom as well.
...
...
Darkness.
Gloomy darkness.
A candle, as if about to flicker out at any moment, trembled, casting just enough light for one to barely make out the study.
"Shh, keep quiet." Xi Mu raised a finger to his lips, addressing the neatly dressed noble family in the center of the sacrificial array, "The Witch of Death prefers a quiet environment."
"Wuu wuu wuu!!!" The noble family in the center of the array struggled even more intensely, palpably more terrified. Death was one thing, but to be sacrificed to the Witch of Death meant their souls would be taken, leaving them unable to reincarnate.
However, no matter how fearful the family was, the chant to summon the Witch of Death began, and ghostly blue flames ignited, latching onto the sacrifices.
As the sacrifices were consumed by flame,
The Witch made her appearance, ever shrouded in mystery, hands clasped in front of her chest, and her wavy hair cascading down.
"Humans, what reason brings you to me this time?"
