Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 125
Kai POV
I’d been awake for hours, just lying here, letting the darkness of my room mirror the darkness in my thoughts. The covers over my head created a cocoon, shutting out the world that I didn’t want to face.
I had no desire to be Alpha right now, no desire to deal with the responsibilities waiting for me outside these four walls. I was scared that if I took the covers away, thoughts of Lily would fit into my mind and drive me crazy.
How I managed to survive four weeks without her warmth puzzled me. In the beginning, I had convinced myself that it was the best thing to do, but I missed Lily terribly. My wolf missed her so much.
But the only way to ensure she’ll be safe is to stay far away from her. I didn’t want to keep hurting her.
Just as I started drifting back into my thoughts, the covers yanked off me.
“Get up!”
I sat up, an expletive word on my lips, ready to lash out on whomever was the culprit, only to find my mother standing there. Her face was set in that familiar expression of determination that usually meant trouble for me.
“Seriously?” I muttered, raking a hand through my hair.
Ignoring me, my mother strode across the room and drew back the curtains, flooding my room with light. I winced at the sudden brightness and shut my eyes.
“This is exactly why you’re depressed,” she declared, practically pushing the curtains apart. “You stay in a dark room cooped everyday barely eating. How can the Alpha of Royal Hunter pack allow him to deteriorate like this? You’re supposed to be an example to your people but you’ve been missing in your duties. What is wrong with you?”
I sighed, rubbing my temples. “I’m not depressed. I’m just taking time off.”
My mom scoffed. “I don’t care what you call it. Time off? Is that what this is? You’ve been holed up in your room for four weeks, Kai. I want you to get up from that bed. Now.”
I fell back against my pillows with a heavy sigh, staring at the ceilings and making a mental note to change the password at the door to my room. But before I could formulate a perfect plan to send her away...
I heard her footsteps approaching but didn’t bother looking. That was my mistake.
SPLASH!
Ice-cold water splashed all over my body.
The shock sent me reeling making me to jerk out of the bed on my feet. My breathing was heavy, my fists clenched at my sides as water dripped down my bare chest and soaked my briefs. I turned to my mother, my expression was filled with rage.
“What the hell?” I roared.
My mother didn’t even flinch. She crossed her arms, and continued glaring at me. “Oh good. You can still react to things. I was starting to think you were dead in there.”
I took a deep breath, my jaw tightening. “Get out.”
“No.”
“Get out now. I swear, mom, if you don’t leave right now, I’ll have the guards throw you out.”
But my mother had never been one to back down, not even from an angry Alpha. She simply raised her brow. “Go ahead and try.”
“Mom!”
"You need to come out of this shell, Kai. This isn’t healthy—"
"How can I?" The words exploded from me, all the pain and anger I’d been holding in bursting forth like a dam breaking. I let out a bitter laugh, running my hands over my wet face in frustration.
"Why are you doing this? What do you want from me?"
"What I want," she said, stepping closer, "is for my son to stop acting like a lost pup and remember who he is. You are the Alpha of this pack, Kai. You do not get to hide away and sulk."
The last shred of my control snapped.
“How the hell am I supposed to not sulk?" he growled. "After everything you’ve done? After what I’ve remembered?"
My mother’s expression faltered. “Kai...”
"You have the nerve to come in here and act like I’m the problem?" He shook his head, his eyes burning with fury. "After everything you did? After taking away my memories?!" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
She went silent.
“I had a first mate, and I lost control and killed her. And you... You hid it from me. How could you?"
She came forward. “Kai, listen to me...”
"Why? Why did you lie to me?" my voice was raw. "Why did you let me think I was fine when I was a monster?"
“Kai...”
“I’ve been nothing but the perfect son you’ve always wanted. Why do you feel you have to always control me and force your wants on me. I am my own self and I want it to remain like that. You killed Mia, didn’t you? You liaised with the pack healers to have her killed...”
“Kai...”
“Mom, if you don’t stay away from me at this moment, I will damn the consequences and make sure you’re charged and punished for all your crimes against me and I’ll see it through, you know I don’t bluff.”
“Kai... Kai...” she tried to reach for me but I shook her hand off and went to the chair that held most of my clothing. I rummaged through the pile and pulled out my gray sweatpants, slipping them on.
“Kai, just listen to me for a second...” she pleaded.
I brushed past her and went to the foot of my bed where I had spotted a discarded shirt and slipped it on too. I reached for the canvas at the foot of my bed. Suddenly my mom came to where I was and yanked it out of my hand throwing it across the room.
“I am your mother, Kai Ryker. I will talk and you’ll listen.”
“It’s a little too late for that, Mom!” I muttered and crossed the room to pick up the sneakers when my mom’s voice reached me.
“You didn’t kill her Kai!” she practically sobbed it out.
I stilled. “What?”
“I said you didn’t kill her, Kai. Your first mate... you didn’t kill her. I swear it to you.”
