Chapter 126: Chapter 126

Lily POV

I sat on the garden bench, watching my uncle Tobias’s face as he seemed to gather his thoughts. The birds chirped in the distance, and I could feel the weight of his upcoming words hanging in the air between us.

Finally, he turned to me, his eyes filled with a mixture of pride and sorrow.

"Lily," he said, his voice quiet but firm, "what I’m about to tell you will change everything you thought you knew about yourself." He took a deep breath. "You are the last blood of the ancient royal family of the werewolves."

I stared at him, certain I’d misheard. "The what?"

"The royal family," he repeated. "The true rulers of all werewolves."

A laugh escaped me, but it died quickly when I saw the serious expression on his face. "That’s impossible. How can I be the last blood? Aren’t you my mom’s brother? You’re also a part of this family, No? Besides I was just a normal girl until just a few hours ago. I didn’t even know you existed.”

Tobias shook his head. "That was by design. To keep you safe. I am Harriet’s brother but I do not live. My mission is to find you and tell you everything I know. I am a mere guardian and once my work is done. I’ll be gone.”

“Gone?” I stared at him with confusion. “Go where?”

He sighed, leaning back against the bench. "Let me tell you a story, Lily. One that has been hidden from most werewolves for generations."

I settled in, knowing instinctively that what I was about to hear would forever alter my understanding of who I was.

"A hundred years ago, there was a werewolf kingdom," Tobias began, his voice taking on the cadence of a practiced storyteller. "Not separate packs with their own territories and leadership, but one united kingdom ruled by a single royal bloodline – your – our  bloodline."

The morning sunlight filtered through the leaves above us, casting dappled shadows across his face as he continued.

"King Alaric was the last true king of all werewolves. He was wise, fair, and possessed a rare power – the ability to see glimpses of the future. The same power that is now manifesting in you."

My hand flew to my mouth. "The visions..."

He nodded. "It’s a gift that runs through the royal blood. But it’s also what led to the kingdom’s downfall."

"What happened?" I whispered.

"Betrayal," Tobias said, his face darkening. "Several high-ranking members of the king’s council grew jealous of his power and his ability to always stay one step ahead of any threats. They orchestrated a coup, and in the chaos that followed, the kingdom divided into separate packs."

I tried to process what he was telling me. It sounded like something from a fantasy novel, not something that could be part of my own history.

"The royal family was thought to be wiped out during the rebellion," he continued. "But a few survived, going into hiding, changing their names, blending in with normal werewolves. Your great-grandfather was King Alaric’s youngest son, just a child when the kingdom fell. He was smuggled out by loyal servants."

Tobias’s eyes grew distant, as if seeing into the past. "For generations, the descendants of the royal family lived in secret, passing down the truth only to their own children. Your mother, Harriet, was the granddaughter of the last king."

"My mother..." I said, trying to picture her face, a face I now knew looked just like mine.

"Harriet was extraordinary," Tobias said, a fond smile tugging at his lips despite the sadness in his eyes. "Her powers of foresight were the strongest the family had seen in generations. She could not only see accidents moments before they happened, like you did at breakfast, but she could also foresee major events, outcomes of battles, betrayals."

A chill ran down my spine as I remembered my own vision of the maid dropping the food. Such a small, inconsequential thing – yet I’d seen it before it happened. If what my uncle was saying was true, my abilities might grow to something far more significant.

"Your mother’s identity remained hidden for most of her life," Tobias continued. "But about Nineteen years ago, rumors began to circulate that a descendant of the royal bloodline still existed. Certain ambitious pack leaders began searching, hoping to either control the royal power or eliminate it for good."

He paused, his hands clenching into fists. "Eventually, they found her. Your mother was strong, but she couldn’t fight an entire pack of werewolves determined to either use her or kill her."

"So they killed her," I said softly, feeling tears well up in my eyes for the mother I never knew.

Tobias nodded, his own eyes glistening. "She died protecting you, Lily. She knew they would come for her, her visions showed her that. But they also showed her that you could be saved."

I wiped away a tear that had escaped down my cheek. "How?"

"Your mother was friends with a woman called Eleanor. She was the Luna to Golden Moon Pack – they’d known each other since childhood. Eleanor was one of the few people who knew your mother’s true identity. When Harriet saw what was coming, she entrusted you to Eleanor, knowing she would raise you, keeping you safe until you were old enough to handle the truth."

My heart resumed its palpitating at the revelation. It was the exact thing I’ve been expecting to hear. A confirmation. With this, I know he wasn’t lying about anything.

“This Eleanor...” I asked tentatively. “Was she married?”

He stared at me strangely. “I mentioned she’s a Luna. Of course she is. I don’t know a lot of things about her, only that she was Harriet’s friend and loved her so much and her husband is an Alpha.”

"But why didn’t they come for me? If these people killed my mother for her powers, and I have the same powers..."

"They believe the bloodline ended with Harriet. No one except me, and now you, knows the truth. Harriet made sure of that. She used her last vision to protect you – she saw that if she faced her enemies alone, if she never mentioned having a child, you would have a chance at a normal life."

His words settled over me like a heavy blanket. My mother had sacrificed herself to protect me. I’d been hidden away, my true nature kept secret, all to keep me safe from a threat I never knew existed.

"So what happens now?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "If I’m really who you say I am... what does that mean?"

Tobias’s expression became serious. "It means that you are the rightful queen of all werewolves, Lily. It means that the power growing inside you is just the beginning of what you’re capable of. And it means that if anyone discovers your true identity, your life will be in danger – just as your mother’s was."

A cold shiver crept down my spine.

The feeling I had always felt like I didn’t belong was true and now I knew why. I wasn’t just a werewolf...

I was a hunted queen.
