Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 215-Leverage
Lara:
I quickly started recording him without making a sound. I knew Markus could be very useful to me.
I could use him to wipe out my enemies. I had always liked keeping people’s secrets.
If I ever needed to use someone, I could threaten to expose those secrets.
"Listen to me carefully. Just trust me once," Markus urged on the call. I
already knew he was talking to a woman. There was no reason for him to sound that affectionate or call anyone else baby.
"Oh no, I don’t like Zoe," he added into the phone, and my smile widened.
"No, don’t be ridiculous. She can’t even give me a child. Try to understand this. Right now, we need her money. This big trip we took, where do you think the money came from? I took it from her brother. Just stay quiet and listen to me for once. Everything will be settled," Markus continued on the call.
As he spoke, he ran a hand through his hair to fix it.
When his eyes fell on the reflection in the car window, he leaned closer and adjusted his eyebrows as well.
He was so focused on himself that he had no awareness of his surroundings.
"Fine, once I have enough money, you’ll see how easily I leave Zoe. Anyway, you are my life. You’re giving me a child. You know whose importance comes first, yours or hers," he said.
He had barely finished speaking when my eyes stayed wide open.
At the same moment, I gasped loudly, and Markus realized someone had been listening to his conversation.
"Baby, I’ll talk to you later," Markus said, fear clear in his voice.
He quickly ended the call and moved around the car in a rush. The moment his eyes landed on me, he stopped after just two steps.
"Lara," he swallowed as he said my name. "What are you doing here? I mean, how long have you been standing here?" His voice faltered.
He kept swallowing again and again. Of course he had realized what kind of trouble he was in now that his secret was in my hands.
The way I smiled at him made it obvious. I was not even trying to hide that I had heard everything.
"Not long ago," I replied calmly. "Especially when you were on a call, talking to someone so sweetly, with so much affection." I kept a deliberate sharpness in my voice.
The moment it reached him, I could tell it unsettled him. My tone alone was enough to make him uneasy.
"I was talking to my mother," he said at once.
He wore a practiced smile, the kind meant to fool me.
"Really? Your mother is giving you a child?" I asked.
My words seemed to hit him like an electric shock. He flinched immediately.
"No, listen to me. It’s nothing like that," he said quickly. "Actually, I..." He stopped mid-sentence.
"You weren’t talking to your mother, Markus. What excuse are you going to give me now, when I heard everything with my own ears?" I demanded, folding my arms across my chest.
"It’s complicated," he replied. "Actually, my mother..." He paused again, scratching the back of his neck. Then he placed a hand on his chest and rubbed over his heart, as if trying to steady himself. "My mother was insisting that I give her a grandson, so I..."
"So you have another mate back home?" I asked him.
Honestly, I wanted to burst out laughing at Zoe. Just thinking about how she would react filled me with satisfaction.
Of course, I could not go and tell her yet. I would let her stay fooled until the very end.
This time, he did not respond. I watched him drift for a moment before he lifted his head and looked at me with more confidence than before.
"Well, you can’t prove it to anyone," he said.
There it was. He had stopped pretending and decided to be honest about who he was. I already knew he would say that. I smiled at him, then pulled out my phone and turned the screen toward him.
"Maybe this will," I replied, then played the video.
As he listened to the entire recording, he paced back and forth before stepping toward me.
"Wait," I warned, raising my hand. "Don’t do that. I’ve already sent this video to my warriors, so don’t even try anything."
He stopped immediately and lifted his hands, showing surrender.
"Now tell me the truth," I demanded.
"I told you the truth," he said quickly. "My mother wanted a grandchild, so I accepted another mate back home. Please don’t tell Zoe. She’ll be broken. I don’t want to hurt her."
He started pleading, lying about why he really did not want me to tell anyone.
"Oh, please. Save it," I replied. "I heard the way you spoke to that woman. You spoke to her with more love than you ever showed Zoe."
At that, he lowered his head, looking guilty.
"And I don’t care," I added.
The moment I said that, he lifted his head again.
"I don’t care how you treat Zoe," I continued calmly. "But I want you to treat me differently."
I changed my tone and smiled at him. He did not smile back. He had no idea what I was about to ask.
"Do you want me to do something? What is it?" he asked.
"Oh wow. Yes, you are not so stupid, aren’t you?" I replied with a small smile.
"For now, I want you to take Zoe and leave my husband’s mansion," I demanded. I tapped my phone against my palm, then pressed my foot firmly to the ground.
"She won’t leave," he argued. "She loves staying around her brother and her mother. And here, she lives like a princess. Why would she leave with someone like me?"
"Then it’s up to you to convince her," I warned. "Otherwise, I’ll show her this."
I watched his throat tighten as he struggled to swallow.
