Chapter 214: 214-Ruined My Own Surprise

Lara:

As soon as I mentioned the honeymoon, Iris’s face fell. No matter how hard she tried to fool us by repeatedly saying it did not affect her, I knew she was lying.

It affected her a lot, and she could not hide it. All I could do was laugh at that.

At times, I felt sorry for her, and then I felt angry. It was her own fault.

She should have thought things through. She had no right to take Kash from me.

"Anyway, I think Iris didn’t like it," I remarked as she stood up and stepped away, then I began eating my food.

Iris still had no idea how fed up Kash was with her.

Just thinking about it made me excited, imagining how she would react when she found out that Kash was planning on getting her kicked out of his life and pack.

She would cry openly, and all her acting about how nothing affected her would fall apart.

My attention stayed on Zoe and her mother. They would look at me and then exchange looks between themselves.

That habit of theirs always bothered me. Before, since Iris had to put up with all of this, I never called them out.

But now that it was happening to me, it irritated me a lot.

"I’m going to my room to get ready. Markus is about to arrive," Zoe announced in a very sweet voice.

In front of her brother, her voice was always soft. She always came across as a gentle, graceful woman, though the truth was very different.

Zoe was extremely toxic. The way she constantly bullied Iris had already made things clear to me.

I knew I needed to stay away from her. I had decided that as soon as I married Kash, this would be the first thing I would put an end to.

"And then I will arrange a very nice lunch as well," Lady Vivian remarked with a smile toward her daughter.

That was exactly what annoyed me. They had no understanding that Markus was not someone who needed that level of attention. The Mother and daughter smiled at each other and began eating, while my mood had already turned sour. As soon as breakfast was over, we all headed to our respective rooms. Thankfully, Kash walked toward my room instead of Iris’s.

By then, I knew he was in love with me, and I felt proud of that.

"You know, I had arranged a surprise for you, but you said everything in front of everyone," Kash told me. There was a hint of sadness in his voice, or maybe disappointment. That was when I realized that, in trying to embarrass Iris, I had ruined my own surprise.

"I’m really sorry," I told Kash, placing my hand on his chest and playing with his tie using my fingers. I kept my words soft so he would understand that I had not done it on purpose.

"Yes, but in all that excitement, you ruined the whole moment for us," Kash replied, and I started feeling even more guilty. I wished Kash understood that repeating it only hurt me more.

"It is true that I was preparing a very special honeymoon for you, but then your father told me that I would have to be crowned first," Kash continued. As he said that, I felt his body tense.

"What happened?" I asked him.

"I do not know. It feels like I cannot handle your pack, your father’s pack. I do not want them to think that I married you just to take control of their territory," Kash explained. As he spoke, his jaw tightened, and I realized how precious he was.

"No, Kash, no one will think that," I replied calmly. "I know the truth. My father had heard you speak even when you did not know he was there. None of us think that way. I want you to take care of our pack. My father has grown old. I want you to lead the pack for his sake. That pack will be a sign of our love."

After saying that, I placed my hands on his back and rested my head against his chest. His heartbeat was so steady that it made me fall even more in love.

"I am doing this only for you," Kash said. "I would never have accepted the crown after everything that happened. It sometimes feels like even your father thinks I am doing all this only for your pack."

Kash gently placed his hands around my waist, and I smiled. That was what made him different from everyone else. He never cared about pleasing people for his own gain. He was honest, and he had no greed.

"Anyway, I’ll manage my responsibilities first. Once the crowning happens, I’ll take you with me on a honeymoon. I want to go away from here for a few days, just with you," Kash told me.

He paused, then cupped my face in his hands and spoke gently. By then, he had already won my heart. He had proven that my choice had been the right one.

"Anyway, good day," Kash said before stepping away from me. He left the room, and I stayed where I was for a moment, still feeling happy. Then I remembered that I had to go outside and face that stupid family.

When I stepped out, I saw Lady Vivian and Zoe in the kitchen, probably cooking. I headed toward the main gate, thinking I might go out for some shopping. Staying inside the house all day felt boring.

I had just reached outside when I noticed Markus standing near his car. He had already arrived, but he was still on a call.

Even though he was here, his attention seemed elsewhere. Quietly, I moved closer and stood on the other side of his car, trying to hear who he was talking to.

"Baby, please try to understand. I have to stay here for a few days, or she will start suspecting," he spoke in an overly sweet tone.

The moment I heard that, I pulled out my phone and started recording.
