Chapter 294: 294-No Time For Him

Iris:

I watched them for a while. Zoe’s reaction was strange. It was written all over her face that whatever they were saying to her was affecting her deeply.

After that, as soon as Zoe returned Lara’s phone and lifted her head, her eyes met mine. She looked at me silently, as if I had hurt her. Then she lowered her head again and walked straight toward the door.

I straightened my spine to have a word with her. Lara and Lady Vivian were watching. As soon as Zoe stepped inside, she stopped before I could even try to get her attention.

"Zoe, did you have breakfast?" I asked, trying to start a conversation just to see if she was really upset with me or if I was just imagining things.

She lowered her gaze and then lifted her head. Her head tilted toward me.

"What difference does it make whether I had breakfast or not?" she replied. "These days, you care more about someone else than me."

Saying that, Zoe brushed past me and went upstairs.

I was left stunned because it seemed as if Lara and Lady Vivian had truly started doing something. They were truly evil.

Moments ago, I had thought they would not stoop any lower than they already had to create a rift between me and Kash. But now they had involved Zoe as well, and it was deeply upsetting.

Lady Vivian and Lara began walking in my direction.

"Take the food back inside. We are not eating anymore," Lady Vivian instructed the maid as she stepped through the door arrogantly.

She looked at me, measured me up and down, then wrinkled her nose and walked away.

Then there was Lara. She stopped directly in front of me and smirked.

"I’m just getting started," she whispered.

Her audacity had grown. She was openly threatening me now. I stared at her in disbelief, and she walked inside after Lady Vivian.

I followed them into the living room and saw that Lady Vivian and Lara were watching television. I walked over and stood near them. I folded my arms across my chest and began tapping my foot on the floor to get their attention.

They looked at each other and then at me. Lara slowly lowered the volume of the television.

"Do you need something?" she asked arrogantly, a smirk on her face that I badly wanted to wipe away.

"What are you both doing now?" I demanded. "What game are you playing?"

I looked straight at Lady Vivian. She rolled her eyes and shook her head as if she could not believe I had the nerve to question her. Then there was Lara, who did not bother hiding the smile on her face.

"Why does it always feel like whenever you do something wrong, you claim someone else was playing a game with you?" she said calmly. "I think it is high time you accept your mistakes so you can move toward something better. Otherwise, you will spend your whole life thinking your only fault was getting caught."

Her words ran through my head. She was trying to justify her games.

"You mean the mistakes that you plant?" I shot back. "I am just trying to understand, Lara. Do you truly believe what you say, or is it all just for show?"

I spoke in the same cocky tone, confident in what I did and how I lived my life. There was no such thing as me getting upset because I was caught for something I had never done. I had never done anything wrong.

Even if I had, it would not have been a sin or a crime. It would have been a genuine mistake or a misjudgment. Not like Lara, who planted seeds of hatred in other people’s lives just to watch them grow and bear fruit.

"Of course you will say that. You are just angry that I am giving Kash an heir too,"

She replied arrogantly. To be honest, this was the first time I was genuinely angry. In a way, she was winning.

I understand that everyone has the right to get pregnant, but the way she got pregnant was wrong. I could not prove it, but that night left me deeply suspicious.

Kash going into the room, then passing out, and then waking up in bed. I do not know why, but it felt as if Lara had planned something in all of it.

"Go to your room now. Do not bore me. Looking at you gives me anxiety," Lara said dismissively, waving her hand at me.

I stared at her face and clenched my fists. Then I turned and walked away, anger burning inside me.

I was in my room for a while when my children woke up. Today, I had dropped them at daycare because I had some important work.

I chose daycare because ever since Zoe behaved a little rudely with me, I could not leave my child with her. Call it suspicion or whatever it was, but I could not ignore it.

Just as I was ready and about to step outside, Lady Vivian hurried after me. It was Kash’s call, she informed me in a very arrogant tone, the same way she always spoke to me.

I turned and looked at her.

"Why are you looking at me with so much anger?" she asked, as if she did not remember why I was upset.

"Why did you stop me?" I replied in a dry tone.

My phone was in my hand, and it was working. She knew that if Kash had said something about me, it would upset me.

"Well, Kash said I should tell you that he wants you to come to a company meeting. It’s happening at a café," she explained.

She had just started explaining when I began shaking my head. She immediately fell silent.

I wanted to go because it felt like the more time I spent with Kash, the better. But I also had to go with Markus, or the whole surprise would be ruined.
