Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 192 I’m going to see her
The West.
Palace Castle looked stately and forbidding under the overcast sky. Dolly cautiously followed a man as they filed into the palace.
Only two days before, Tracy and the others had received confirmation that Emily was at the palace. The Southern spies decide to send Dolly into the palace to find a way to reach Emily so they can plan a rescue.
Tracy asks her informant to find Dolly a job in the palace back kitchen, and today is Dolly’s first day on the job.
Soon after the man named Tony had shown his papers to the soldiers standing outside the gates, they entered the palace without any problems. " Today is your first day at work, don’t mess it up." Tony reminded Dolly.
Dolly nodded and Tony led the way to the palace kitchen. Dolly had been at work since morning, and had tried to sneak out, but had not had the opportunity.
As noon approached, Dolly heard the head cook reprimanding one of the cooks. Curious, she walked over to see what was the matter.
"What the hell did you do? " the fat, round-faced head chef shouted, "Why did the honorable lady start vomiting after eating your breakfast?"
"The breakfast was all made according to the recipe. " The chef explained with an innocent face, "I don’t know why that lady vomited after eating breakfast."
" Damn it, you’ll be dead if the king finds out."
" It wasn’t Ned’s fault at all." A middle-aged woman in a flowery apron defended the cook, " I heard the maids say she ate very little food at every meal. Sometimes the maid had to beg her to eat more than she would. I heard that the honorable lady is from the south, perhaps she is not used to western food."
" Do you think the king will listen to your explanation?" The fat chief steward said, " If we can’t make food that satisfies that young lady, the king will be very angry. What’s more, the king is going to have dinner with the lady in the evening, and if the lady complains about the food or vomits at the table, we will be dead."
All were instantly silent at the fat chief steward’s words, and they knew that he was not joking.
Dolly divined in her heart that the venerable lady of whom they were speaking must be Emily.
" Let me try." Dolly volunteered.
" Who the fuck are you?" asked the portly governor.
"My name is Dolly and I’m the new handyman." Dolly said, " My grandmother taught me how to cook some southern food. Maybe you can let me try it."
" Who do you think you are?" The fat chief said dismissively, " I’m not going to put my fate in the hands of a woman who doesn’t know anything."
" Why don’t you let me make a dessert first and you can punish me if that honorable lady doesn’t like it." Dolly said confidently.
The fat chief steward hesitated for a moment and said, " Well, if you mess up, you’ll have to bear all the consequences."
" So what are you going to do for a snack? " the fat chief steward asked.
" Lemon pie. " Dolly said.
......
Inside the dining room, candles flickered, lights and shadows danced on the ornate walls and ceiling, and the crystal chandelier shed a soft light that reflected off the fine cutlery and polished marble countertops, refracting a radiant, mesmerizing halo of light.
Elijah and Emily sat opposite each other, so quiet that all that could be heard was the soft crackle of the burning candle wick. When steaming hot food is served, the rich aroma fills the space in an instant. Roast lamb sizzled on the plate, its skin golden brown and crisp, emitting an appealing aroma of charred flesh; The baked snails are wrapped in a well-prepared sauce that glows with a delicate sheen by candlelight; The pan-fried foie gras had a tantalizing golden brown color and a delicate texture, as if it were a piece of exquisite art.
Emily, however, put down her fork after only a few mouthfuls, the crisp sound of which stood out in the quiet dining-room.
" Don’t you like the food?" Elijah asked solicitously, a hint of concern in his eyes.
" I haven’t had an appetite lately." Emily said softly.
Elijah glanced at the food in front of Emily. She had not eaten any of the plates of roast lamb and roasted escargot, only a small piece of sauteed foie gras. His gaze grew a little cold as he scanned the almost untouched dishes before him.
At that moment the butler, who was standing by, seemed to perceive Elijah’s displeasure. A hint of panic flashed in the old butler’s eyes, and he hurriedly said, "The back kitchen has prepared a new dessert today, should we bring the dessert up earlier?"
So Elijah asked Emily, "Would you like to try the dessert?"
"What is today’s dessert?" Emily raised her head a little, and her eyes flashed with curiosity.
"Lemon pie." replied the steward respectfully.
" Alright. Bring up the dessert." Emily said.
Presently the maid brought up the dessert and set it before Emily. The lemon pie lay on a china plate, its golden crust glistening seductively in the candlelight. The rich aroma of the lemon wafted into Emily’s nostrils, whetting her appetite for an instant. Emily could not resist a slice of lemon pie.
The moment the lemon tart touched Emily’s tongue, a sweet taste filled her mouth. She savored the lemon pie, basking in the delicious taste. The flavor was familiar to Emily, but she could not remember if she had ever had a lemon pie like this before. The familiarity lingered like a mist, leaving her a little confused, a little spellbound.
"Is lemon pie good?" Elijah asks.
Emily nodded, a gleam of satisfaction in her eyes. Then she ate another slice of lemon pie, her movements more natural and pleasurable than ever. It was not long before she had eaten the entire dish of lemon pie, leaving only a few tiny scraps on the plate.
The old butler stood by and watched Emily finish the whole dish of lemon pie, and he sighed with secret relief. It was the first time in many days that he had seen Emily eat so much. It seems that this lemon pie really has a unique magic.
" Did the new chef make this lemon pie?" Elijah’s gaze held a hint of curiosity.
" This dessert was made by a new handy woman." replied the old steward.
Elijah gently wiped his mouth with his napkin, and the white napkin passed lightly across the corners of his mouth, carrying away the slightest residue of food. He put the napkin down and said to the old butler, " Bring me the handy woman, I want to reward her."
