Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 196 You Are an Orphan
There was a knock at the door, and a maid pushed her way in. She says to Emily, "Miss Emily, the king wants to see you."
"Where is he? " Emily asks.
"The king is waiting for you in the other room. Please follow me," the maid said.
Presently they stopped before a fine door leading into the room. "The king is in there." said the maid softly.
Emily pushed open the door, and the interior was dark. She was bewildered when the next moment the light was suddenly switched on, lighting up the room in an instant. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
What met her gaze was an incredibly cosy nursery. The walls were painted a soft light blue, like the color of a clear sky, and gave a sense of peace and tranquillity. Hanging from the ceiling is an elaborate chandelier in the shape of a group of flying cherubs, surrounded by warm yellow bulbs that envelop the room in a cozy halo as the light pours down.
On one side of the room was placed a solid wood crib. Cute little animal designs are carved into the bed rails. There are innocent bears, bouncing bunnies and birds spreading their wings. Every detail is lifelike. The bed was covered with a soft white mattress and colorful cartoon sheets, with a small fluffy comforter folded at the end.
Emily stepped into the room, and as she did so she reached out and gently stroked the rails of the crib. As she ran her finger-tips over the lovely carved designs, she could not help conjuring up in her mind the image of a baby in a crib.
"Do you like the nursery? " Elijah’s voice came from the back as he walked slowly toward Emily.
"Is this the nursery you designed? " Emily was a little surprised.
"Yes. " Elijah hugged Emily from behind as he placed his hands lightly on her belly," This will be our baby’s room from now on. Do you like it?"
"Yes, I love it. " Emily replied softly.
Elijah turned Emily’s body to face him and he looked deep into Emily’s gray eyes, "Are you happy?"
"Yes. I am happy. " Emily looked at Elijah the same way, "Thank you for everything."
"Smile, Emily. " Elijah’s fingers slid gently over Emily’s face, "I want you to smile at me."
So Emily showed a smile to Elijah, and he said with satisfaction, "That’s right. You are so pretty when you smile. I love seeing you smile."
Then Elijah takes out a red velvet box and he hands the red velvet box to Emily, "Open it."
Emily gently opened the box. In an instant a brilliant light shone from the box, which contained a ruby ring. The ruby was as red as a burning flame. It shone brightly on the delicate ring supports, each facet reflecting a fascinating sheen, like the brightest red star in the deep night sky. The fine diamonds set around it were like fairies dancing round a flame.
" This is the wedding ring I chose especially for you. The designer said this ring symbolizes fiery and eternal love." Elijah’s eyes flashed with a fiery light, " Just like my love for you."
" This ring is so precious." Emily said softly. Her uneasy gaze darted back and forth between the ring and Elijah.
The ruby ring glittered luxuriously in the light, but to Emily it seemed too heavy with love. She dared not touch the ring, the symbol of unending love, and Emily averted Elijah’s gaze with downcast eyes.
" You are my queen, you deserve the best." Elijah took the ruby ring from its case and placed it directly on Emily’s ring finger.
The ruby ring was as heavy as Elijah’s love for her, and seemed to bind her by an invisible force.
Elijah took Emily’s hand to the window, and pointing to a clearing outside, he said to Emily, "Look. I am going to build a little children’s playground and a ball field in that clearing, so you can play there with our children. And over there—"
"Elijah. " Emily cut him off, "I have a question for you."
"What?"
"Why have you never mentioned my family to me?" Emily said as she watched for Elijah’s reaction. "Since we’re getting married, would you mind inviting my family to our wedding?"
"You’re an orphan, you have no family. " Elijah replied in a flat tone.
"What about my friends from the pack? " Emily pressed, "Don’t I even have a friend I know?"
"No. " Elijah’s answer was dry," The bad guys massacred everyone in your pack, you’re the only survivor."
"Elijah —"
" Don’t ask again." Elijah cut her off.
Emily froze, and Elijah’s words were like a solid wall against all her questions. Elijah seemed averse to answering questions about Emily’s life.
"Did you mean what you just said? "Emily stared into Elijah’s eyes as she tried to find the real answer in those gray eyes.
"Yes. " Elijah’s tone was sure, his eyes were calm and unperturbed.
Emily just looked at Elijah. She said no more. Elijah seemed to sense Emily’s change of mood, then he whispered in Emily’s ear in a soft tone, "I don’t want to bring up your sadness, Emily, I’m enough for you. Promise me you won’t think about things that don’t matter, okay?"
Emily nodded obediently.
Elijah lowered his head and kissed her cheek, " I’m going to the border in two days to take care of some business. When I return, we will have our wedding. I want you to remain at the palace while I am gone. Can you do that?"
Emily looked up at Elijah. She gave him a small smile, " Yes."
Elijah took Emily in his arms with joy. Emily’s eyes, however, looked out of the window at the blackness of the night, and the immensity of the darkness, like a great mystery, filled her with deep thought.
He’s lying to me, Emily thought.
........
Two days later,
Dolly’s heart was like an ant on a hot pan, and the feeling of anxiety and uneasiness was becoming more and more pronounced. She could not understand why Emily had not sought her out till now. Had Emily not seen the note she had left on the cake?
In the morning, after Dolly had made breakfast, the head cook asked her to deliver it to Emily in person. When Dolly heard this, she was a little excited. She had to take the opportunity to get close to Emily.
When Dolly brought breakfast to Emily’s room, she saw Emily sitting at the dining-room table. She did not look at Dolly, as if she did not exist.
Emily took a sip of the soup with her spoon and a look of displeasure immediately appeared on her face." The soup was horrible. "Emily slammed the spoon down on the table.
"I’m sorry, I’ll make you a new one. " Dolly said hastily.
"No, I’ve lost my appetite." Emily glanced at Dolly, "But I don’t want to waste food. Why do you not eat all this horrid food? Eat right here, and when you’re done with this food, you can leave."
Dolly was shocked. She could not understand why Emily was so cross.
"All of you get out. I am going to watch this woman finish her food. " Emily said and sent the other maids out.
The maids darted away as if fleeing a car accident. When Emily and Dolly were the only two left in the room, Emily put away her angry expression. She looked at Dolly with a critical eye, "Who are you? Why did you leave me a note?"
At this point, Dolly realized that Emily was just acting. She tries to get closer to Emily, but Emily is wary of her, "Just stand there and answer my questions. "Emily said.
"Emily, what’s wrong with you? "Dolly looked at Emily in confusion, "I’m Dolly, don’t you remember me?"
Emily shook her head, "No. "
Dolly stiffened, and she could tell by Emily’s expression that Emily was not acting. After a moment, Dolly asked Emily in an uncertain tone, "Did you lose your memory?"
