Marx heard screams coming from the ward, and he felt immediately ill. So Marx rushed to the sick-room, and the moment he opened the door Klaus was in front of him.

" Klaus, you’re awake? " Marx couldn’t believe what he saw in front of him.

"Where’s Emily? " Klaus’ voice was hoarse and urgent.

"You must lie down. " Marx urged, "I’m going to get a doctor now."

"Marx, where is Emily? " Klaus gripped Marx’s shoulders tightly, "Tell me."

" Klaus, Emily is not here." Marx tried to change the subject, " You lie down, I’ll tell you about Emily later."

"Did something happen to her? " Klaus pursued.

"Emily is in the West. " Mina interjected, "Dolly went looking for her. She——"

"Princess! " Marx glared at Mina as he signaled her not to continue.

"What the hell happened to Emily?" Klaus yelled at Marx, " Why is she in the West? Did Elijah do something to her?"

" Klaus, you are emotionally unstable right now." Marx patiently talks to Klaus, " Listen to me, brother. Just lie down, okay?"

"I have to go to her." Klaus released his hand, and was about to step out of the doorway, when Marx at once blocked his way with his body.

" Don’t get in the way." Klaus tried to push Marx away, but Marx’s body was as immovable as a solid boulder.

" She’s not in the west." Marx said calmly, " Dolly saved her. Now Emily is in the south."

" South?" Klaus’ eyes flashed with confusion, " Why did Dolly take her south?"

"If you want to know anything about Emily, lie down. " Marx said," or you’re not going to hear anything about Emily out of my mouth ever again. I swear."

"How dare you threaten me? " Klaus snaps at Marx, "You’re just Beta, I’m your Alpha."

"As your Beta, everything I do is for your benefit." Marx takes a deep breath as he tries to contain the anger that keeps bubbling up inside him. " Now that Dyson has imprisoned the King, he has also ceded several packs along the border to the West without authorization. The Alphas, who are unhappy with Dyson, are planning how to overthrow him. When they do, our nation will be divided. Klaus, only you can control the situation."

Klaus stiffened at Marx’s words. Nor does he seem to have imagined that the country would now be in the position it is in.

" Klaus, I don’t want Dyson to be king." Mina whispered as she took Klaus’s hand, " Dyson is going to forcefully marry mom and I don’t want him to be my stepfather."

" Oh Klaus. " Maggie said miserably as she took Klaus’ other hand, "Dyson doesn’t like us. If Dyson were king, he’d make us go to the farm."

Slowly the words of the twin princesses brought Klaus’ anger down. He stopped arguing with Marx and slowly released his grip on Marx’s shoulder, then turned silently back to the hospital bed.

Seeing this, Marx said to the twin princesses, "You guys stay here and watch him. I’ll go get to the doctor."

The two princesses nodded. Soon Marx telephoned Dr. Stephen, who was surprised to see Klaus awake. He was surprised to see Klaus awake, so Dr. Stephen immediately performed a physical exam on Klaus.

After a while, Dr. Stephen took off his stethoscope and he said to Marx, " Klaus is all right."

"So he doesn’t need any more treatment, right?" Marx asked uneasily.

"No need. " Dr. Stephen said, "He’s in the same physical condition as before."

"Thanks. " Marx said.

"I’m going to leave now, so if there’s any condition, call me again."

Marx nodded.

After Dr. Stephen left, Marx looked at the twin princesses, " Princesses, could you please give Klaus and I a moment alone?"

So the twin princesses had to do their duty and leave the hospital room.

" Now, can you tell me about Emily?" Klaus lifted the sheet that covered him, and he stepped out of bed.

" Would you like a cigarette?" Marx asked.

" Why not?" Klaus was much more conciliatory with Marx than he had been earlier.

So they went out on the balcony, and Marx handed Klaus a cigarette. Then he took out a cigarette, lit it, and drew a deep breath as the smoke drifted slowly across the night sky.

They smoked for a while before Marx slowly said, " Dolly found Emily in the West, but Emily lost her memory. Dolly said Emily doesn’t remember anything from before, including you."

" Why is that?" Klaus frowned, and there was a look of shock in his eyes. " Why did Emily lose her memory?"

" Dolly said that Elijah had the wizard erase Emily’s memories." Marx told Klaus what Dolly had said, " Now Dolly has brought Emily back south. Also, Dolly said..."

Marx paused. He hesitated to say the rest of what he had to say, fearing that it would shock Klaus even more.

" What else did she say?" Klaus asked.

Marx gave a torn look, he said helplessly, " Dolly said that Emily is the princess of the South. The North and the South are now two hostile nations, so the King of the South won’t let Emily go back to the North."

"That’s impossible. " Klaus’ tone was filled with anger and skepticism, "How can the North be hostile to the South?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

" It’s Dyson." Marx said, " It was he who chose to antagonize the South in order to attach himself to the West. The Alpha of the Purple Star pack told me that Dyson decided to unite with the West to attack the South, and it is rumored that they are already working on a battle plan."

Klaus pounded his fist on the iron railing of the balcony as he cursed Dyson.

" Klaus, if Dyson leads an attack on the south, he will leave the capital. This is our chance to take back power." Marx said, " Those Alpha’s have been disgruntled with Dyson for a long time. If we rally them against Dyson, I’m sure we can take back power."

Klaus was silent, he did not respond to Marx, who could see that Klaus was hesitating. He continued to persuade Klaus, " I know you care about Emily, but at least she’s safe now. All you have to do now is take back power. We have too much to do and you have to focus on the immediate."

After a long silence, Klaus slowly looks up, his voice full of power and majesty, "Two things. In the first place, you will gather at once the Alpha men of the Border Pack to meet me. I will be conferring with them on matters relating to the restoration of power. Second, find me a way to communicate with the King of the South. I will go to the south to interview him."

"The real reason you’re going to the south is to see Emily, right? " Marx sensed what Klaus was thinking.

Klaus didn’t deny it, " I have to see Emily, I had to find out for myself if she really had lost her memory. I don’t believe she really forgot about me."

Marx said nothing more, knowing that Klaus would not easily change his mind once he had decided something.
