Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Dyson’s Evil Gift

"What do you want to do?" Emily kept her voice down; she had not had a crush on a man since she had met Dyson on the night of the wedding ceremony. He always struck her as sinister and cunning, and made it impossible for her to trust him.

He was dressed to-night like a courteous gentleman in a white suit, with gold buttons as dazzling as his hair. Perhaps his appearance would have charmed the idiot ladies, but Emily knew that he was a man of the world.

"Relax, I just wanted to dance with you." Dyson was holding Emily by the waist, a movement that seemed graceful, but betrayed a desire for possession.

At this moment Klaus and his temporary partner passed, and when Klaus saw Dyson dancing with Emily, he gave Dyson an instant cold look. That stare was enough to startle anyone, but to Dyson it seemed like a reward.

Dyson glanced at Klaus, who, instead of being offended, smiled complacently.

"You did it on purpose." Emily had seen through Dyson’s tricks at a glance, and she could not understand why this Dyson used every trick in the book to provoke Klaus.

A wave of anger rose in Emily’s breast. She did not like to be drawn into such idle power games. She tried to free herself from Dyson’s embrace, but his arms clung to her like iron hoops.

"Oh, it looks like you’re not stupid." Dyson stared at Emily, "I couldn’t be happier with the way your husband was angry."

"But I’m not a pawn for you to use." Emily’s face sank, and she said unceremoniously, "If you want to provoke Klaus, why not just fight him?" Do you know what you’re behaving like right now?"

"Like what?" Dyson pretended to listen, and he deliberately leaned close to Emily.

"A naïve child." Emily’s tone was stiff, and she scorned Dyson’s movements.

"Thank you for the compliment." Dyson smiled frankly, "I thought you were going to say something more vicious to me, but it seems like I’m not too bad in your heart."

"You’re really going to comfort yourself." Emily looked away, trying to distance herself from Dyson as much as possible.

"You know what?" Dyson said to himself, "Since I was a child, Klaus has had everything a million times better than me, just because he is a prince and I am just an illegitimate child." I do not think I am worse than he is, but Klaus is the best in the eyes of everybody. His aura of a prince is so dazzling that no one even notices my presence."

"So it’s jealousy that causes you to always go against him?" Emily picks up and says, "You think you’ve been treated unfairly?" Do you think Klaus took everything you deserved?"

"No, dear." Dyson’s tone suddenly became soft, "I know very well the difference between an illegitimate child and a real prince, and I know what position I am in. I just want it to be known that if there is no identity gap between Klaus and me, I am not in the least inferior to him. Maybe you can’t understand what I’m talking about, and you don’t know how difficult life is for an illegitimate child in the palace."

"So?"

"So I’ve been working hard, I’m dedicated to serving the royal family. I swear, I will find a way to get all that Klaus has. Dyson’s tone was low, and his gaze at Emily had a predatory tone, "Including his women."

At these last words Emily felt a menace such as she had never felt before, but she soon recovered her self-possession.

"Don’t you think about it." Emily felt that the man’s mind was too twisted, that he was an unscrupulous man in the pursuit of power, and that he wanted all that Klaus had only to gratify his vanity and his inferiority.

Her brave response sent a flash of admiration across Dyson’s face, and he looked down in Emily’s ear and said, "It was a pleasure chatting with you, Emily."

Emily ignored him; she only wanted to get away from the lunatic. Why is this dance music not over yet? Emily was growing impatient.

At this point, the melodious dance music suddenly stops and is followed by fast-paced, energetic dance music. Just when Emily was overwhelmed, she saw the twin princesses jump up excitedly, and Mina shouted, "It’s free dance time."

"It’s a free dance." Maggie followed suit.

It turns out it was the twin princesses who made the show’s band change the dance music, but what is a free dance anyway? Emily was confused, and then Dyson let go of Emily’s hand, and he whispered in her ear, "Emily, we’ll see."

Dyson turned away with a smirk on his face as he walked over to a group of celebrities and struck up a conversation with them. The illegitimate child, who had just received the royal approbation, soon attracted the attention of the great and the good, and immediately began to chat with several of the ladies, as if to show off his charms and his new-born position.

At that moment a hand was laid on Emily’s waist, and she looked up to see that it was Klaus.

"What did he say to you?" Klaus asked, his icy gaze fixed on the figure of Dyson.

"Nothing." Emily lied, and said that she did not want Klaus to have an argument with Dyson here, especially on such a grand occasion.

"Really?" Klaus’s tone was full of doubt, "Tell me the truth."

Emily drew a deep breath, knowing that Klaus would not stop there. So she had to confess, "He just wants to provoke you and get your attention by dancing with me."

Klaus’s brow furrowed, and his eyes flashed with a cold glint. "If he dares to come near you again, I will make him regret it."

Emily’s heart tightened; she knew that Klaus was strong enough to carry out his threat, but she also feared that such a conflict would cause them unnecessary trouble.

"Klaus, don’t let him affect our mood." Emily whispered, "It’s our wedding banquet, and we shouldn’t let Dyson’s plot get their way."

Klaus nodded thoughtfully.

At that moment, the twin princesses ran up to Emily, and they each took her hand and said, "Come and dance freely with us, Emily."

Before Emily could speak, the twin princesses had drawn her to the middle of the dance floor.

"What is a free dance?" Emily, who had never heard the word free-dance, had to turn up the volume because of the intensity of the music.

"Free dance is a free dance, you can dance as much as you want." Mina said to her loudly, "Everything is free."

"Look, like me." Maggie said as she wriggled her body at will, "Just keep up with the music."

"OK, freedom." Emily knew what it meant to dance freely, and with the help of the twin princesses, she began to relax and listen to the music with her ears, and then her body writhed to the rhythm of the music.

She thought of the bonfires she used to have in the country, where all the village gathered round them, talking and laughing merrily as they ate their refreshments and drank their wine.

As Mr. Ball played a rollicking country song on his guitar, everyone got up and danced to the music.

Emily pictured it all in her mind’s eye, and imagined that it was now a bonfire, and that she was dancing about as freely as a fish in the sea.

She moves to the beat of the music and becomes one with it. Her dancing was such as these nobles had never seen before, so new, so beautiful, so touching.

As the last notes of the dance music ended, the others withdrew, leaving Emily standing in the middle of the dance floor to a round of applause from the guests.

Flattered by this, Emily smiled and thanked everyone, and for a moment she was the brightest star of the show.

Klaus stood at a little distance, his eyes fixed on Emily, who sparkled like a diamond.

The men looked at Emily with envy, and Klaus quickly approached Emily and hugged her as if to assert his sovereignty.

"You should rest for a while, kitten." Klaus said.

"Okay." Emily’s face was a little flushed, the dancing had made her thirsty, and she needed something to drink.

"The banquet isn’t over yet, where are you going?" Dyson stopped in front of them, and he looked at Klaus with a malicious eye, "I’ve got a special show for you, brother."

"Fuck off, don’t let me beat you up here." Klaus growled, his voice full of rage and warning.

Dyson sneered, he went straight to the stage where the band was playing, he motioned for them to pause, and then picked up the microphone and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got a special show for you tonight."

As everyone looked at Dyson suspiciously, two alpha warriors entered through the main entrance of the hall, pushing a huge cage covered in red flannel, from within which came a strange sound.

Emily clasped Klaus’s hand, and an ominous foreboding came over her.

"Turn it on." Dyson ordered.

Then one of the alpha warriors tore off the red flannel with all his might, and as it fell to the ground Emily, startled by the contents of the cage, involuntarily stepped back.
