Alpha's Secret Bride-Chapter 78: When the Bond Called Her Back
"Ronan!" She shouted. He slowly closed the chamber door and leaned on it, staring at her with his hands folded across his chest. She shamefully lowered her head. Her wolf trembled as if she was in serious trouble.
"Moonlight, calm down; I’m not here to judge you or tell you what to do. My healer-wolf called me a few hours ago and told me why he couldn’t carry out the scan. I also had a lengthy discussion with Moon Prince Brandon Oliver Frostbane and I came up with just a question for you," he said, and sat down on a sofa that was close to the door and crossed his legs. Her tears continued flowing as long as the Heart of the Kingdom necklace remained on her neck. She couldn’t even touch it, not to talk of removing it. It was as if the burden of the entire Kingdom had been placed on her wolf.
"Does your Heaven actually belong to those enemies who made life miserable for you or your enemies encroached in your Heaven to continue making life miserable for you and probably, chase you out of your Heaven when you have lost your sanity completely? I want you to carefully take a stroll down memory street before answering my question," Ronan said and fixed his eyes on the device he was holding. She opened her mouth and closed it again.
"Don’t give me an answer yet. Walk down memory street first. Think of everything that has happened in the past and draw your conclusion before answering my question."
Her breathing began to calm down as she recalled the first day she met Brandon Oliver. "He was sent by the Moon Goddess to rescue me. The blessed Moon Goddess knew I had no one. That was why she sent him to me after one winter of crying for a rescuer. He rescued me! Seven winters apart! He still came back for me. Sophisticated wolves seek his attention every moon-cycle, yet he knows where his heart lies. He didn’t even mind my low academic level. He gave his best while he was at the academy just to impress his father and make sure he didn’t stop us. Whereas, I couldn’t go beyond 3.0." she sniffed. Ronan ignored her sniffing and continued pressing his device. "I am the most horrible and confused wolf in the Kingdom! A dull brain, but he didn’t care!"
She stood up courageously. Her tears dried up instantly in a way that made her wonder if they were ever going to come out of her eyes again.
"Secure your territory!" Ronan shouted angrily and stood up. She never knew he was mad at her all the while he was sitting quietly. "You have all it takes! The love! The courage! The wisdom!"
"Sometimes, wolves with a good heart are often seen as the most foolish. Your pack-kins didn’t know you are far better than your younger sibling. Don’t worry, very soon they will see through you. I’m sorry about what you will lose."
"I don’t care about the will or the pack enterprises anymore. They can go ahead and give everything to my younger sibling."
She looked at him and scurried out of the chamber. He ran after her.
*Brandon*
An awkward moment when Brandon was sleeping with tears in his eyes. He began to dream. He saw himself in his mate’s bedchamber, sniffing her lotion because it reminded him of her and also stopped him from making a huge mistake he was about to make. He sat down on her dressing sofa bed to inhale more only to wake up from sleep and saw her sitting on his bed with a towel on her head and chest, rubbing the same lotion on her lap. The scent he was perceiving was actually in his bedchamber.
He rubbed his hands on his eyes to make sure he was seeing clearly. He tilted his head to also make sure he was not mistaking Lunara for her. He slowly sat up and leaned on his bed headboard and continued staring at her with surprise. He stared at the wall clock that was on his wall, it was 4:47 am. He snapped his fingers and folded his hands on his chest.
He didn’t believe in spirit tales, he would have believed he was staring at one. He tilted his head to see her face very well. Her face had no current at all. No joy, no tears. She stood up after some minutes and began to walk towards the closet, swaying her hips as she walked. He didn’t know if she was doing it purposely to seduce him or if they were just moving on their own, but whatever it was, was affecting him deeply. He kept blinking rapidly as he stared with surprise. Suddenly she halted as if she forgot something on the bed. He quickly stared at the bed and looked up at her again.
"I’m here to deal with all my enemies!" She turned slowly and faced him. "Including you! I can’t believe you have given that crazy fated bride of yours my bedchamber! My mate, my bedchamber! Well, both of you will hear from me at moonrise!" She pointed her finger at him, turned, and continued walking.
"I...she...she...it’s fine; you can deal with us! As... as long as you... don’t deny me my mating rights this moonrise," he sputtered, staring at her beautiful, glowing wolf. She turned, dropped her cream on a table, and began to walk towards him. His heart skipped. Probably, because of the fierce look she had on her face. He did not really know what had come over her.
"What did you say?" She asked with hands akimbo.
"I...said it’s... fine," he shrugged and she gave him a heated kiss on his lips. He didn’t know why her unexpected emergence shut his ability to speak. Maybe his wolf was over-delighted.
"The last sentence."
"Never mind. Why are you here acting like my Alpha? I thought you had a mating bond this moonrise?" He smirked.
"Why... did you sleep with Lunara that night?" She asked as if she would attack him if his reason was not good enough.
"I did not! My moonblessed one, they manipulated you."
She brought her hands down.
"You didn’t?" She frowned.
"Yes."
"Oh...what?"
"We... will... talk about it later. Come to me, my starlit mate." He opened his arms, but she ignored him and was lost in thoughts. She looked irresistibly captivating in the white towel she hung around her chest and he didn’t mind if he was speaking to her spirit. Holding her in his arms was what he needed at the moment. He slowly got out of bed and held her waist. His hands were restless as though she had been away for a winter. His breathing changed immediately and the muscles around his eyes became weak, leaving him in a dazed state. He kept pressing his wolf and head against hers until the towel she hung on her chest fell off. He began to steal glances at her feminine curves as if he was seeing them for the first time. He slowly turned her around and tilted his head.
"I miss you, my moonblessed one," he said. His voice was involuntarily soft, slower, and had some deep baritone as though he was having a hard time getting the words out of his mouth. He looked deeply into her eyes, he could see signs that she felt the same too, but just acting brave.
Before he could say more words, she pulled him closer and began to kiss his lips. The soothing and fluid motion of her hand on his face stirred a swarm of emotions in his wolf.
He quickly lifted her into his arms and she wrapped her arms around his neck. He could feel the thunderous beat of her heart. He lowered her uncovered wolf onto the bed, holding her close, overwhelmed by the bond between them.
He realized the best thing he had done for himself was bond with her. She was the greatest thing that had ever happened in his life. When he was a young he-wolf, he used to wonder about the true purpose of existence almost every day, but he got the answer the first time he shared that deep bond with her. He felt closer to the essence of the Moon Goddess each time they were bound together. He knew he would never be able to give her all that she deserved, but he promised to give himself and all that he had to her.
"You are my moonheart... my sanctuary," she moaned softly, her gaze dreamy as she looked into his eyes while he welcomed her back into his territory. "I never knew there was a difference between merely existing and truly living. Outside our packland, I was just surviving... lost, unable to find my path. But within our packland... I came alive," she murmured faintly.
He could still hear her, his forehead resting gently against hers as he held her close, their wolves resonating in a deep, unspoken rhythm. The intensity between them surged like a tide that refused to retreat, her scent thick in the air—rich, overwhelming, and filled with raw, undeniable longing.
He slowly shifted her position as the first wave of their shared release subsided. She lay beneath him, their forms aligned, his head resting against hers while their fingers intertwined tightly. Despite his strength, he carried himself with care, ensuring his weight never burdened her.
"My silver heart... I’m sorry for everything that happened in the royal den," he whispered near her ear, his voice laced with regret.
She smiled faintly, turning her head slightly.
"I want us to talk about what happened," he added, his tone softer now.
"I’ve already figured it out," she replied calmly.
He pulled back immediately, shifting to face her fully.
"What do you mean? Tell me... what happened?"
"I told you to figure it out, didn’t I?"
"No, my moonblessed one... I’m talking about what made you almost lose control... not why my parents want me to take Lunara as my mate."
"They’re the same thing."
"What?" His voice tightened. "Talk to me, please."
"You’ll figure it out."
"I explained why I invited her to that dinner... and you said my reason made sense. Now it’s your turn to keep your promise," he pressed.
"I changed my mind."
He exhaled sharply. "Oh... my Moon Goddess... fine. Just answer one thing. How did you figure everything out?"
"I grew up with her. I know her better than anyone."
He shut his eyes, drawing in a slow breath, his jaw tightening as frustration flickered across his expression.
"My calm under the moon... please," he pleaded again.
She only smiled and shook her head.
"Fine. Then I’ll find out myself. I removed the DVR hidden inside the crystal eye that night. It’s still locked... but I’ll find someone who can unlock it."
"I just hope they’re willing to tell you what they see."
His eyes widened slightly. "Wait... you know what’s in that DVR? The first person I showed it to could barely speak before returning it."
"Don’t show it to anyone else," she warned quietly.
"Does she have some kind of ability? Something unnatural?"
"It’s not a flaw," she said calmly. "It’s simply... part of who she is. Something she was born with."
He frowned deeply. "Now I’m even more confused. Just give me a hint."
She tilted her head, her lips curving slightly.
"One good turn deserves another. You never gave me a hint about being the heir, did you?"
She leaned closer, her breath brushing softly against his lips.
The moment their closeness deepened, every thought he had scattered like ash in the wind.
The answers he sought faded away...
replaced by the undeniable pull of the bond between them.
Then a sharp beep echoed from the high-tech door—somewolf was attempting to gain access to his chamber.
