An Extra Villain in Cultivation World-Chapter 69: Why Is Everyone Blushing?
"So this is the kind of conversation happening in my hall while I was refining pills?"
Yanmei’s face flushed instantly. The sudden voice behind her startled her so badly that she jerked in surprise. The chair beneath her scraped loudly across the floor as she lost her balance and nearly fell toward Xuanyan.
Xuanyan frowned slightly, not understanding why Yanmei reacted so strongly. But when his gaze moved past her shoulder, he immediately saw the reason.
Mei Lingyao was standing there.
For a brief moment, Xuanyan’s mind went completely blank. All thoughts disappeared the instant his eyes landed on her.
She stood there dressed in black, the color hugging her body so closely it felt as if the dress had been made only for her. The smooth fabric reflected the soft light of the room, tracing every curve of her figure without trying to hide them.
Xuanyan’s gaze moved downward almost unconsciously. The dress tightened around her slender waist before spreading into layered black silk around her hips, revealing just enough pale skin to make the scene dangerously distracting.
Mei Lingyao noticed his reaction immediately. The faint smile on her lips widened slightly as her eyes studied him without the slightest restraint.
"So this is my daughter’s husband... and the disciple Yanmei mentioned," she said lightly. Her gaze slowly moved over him once more before she added with clear amusement, "I didn’t expect a disciple from the outer sect courtyard to be this... pleasing to look at." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Who designed this outfit... and why does it look this tempting?" Xuanyan shouted in his mind. He had seen fan art of her in the novel before, but it was nowhere near her real beauty. Even the black rose tattoos on her pale skin stood out more against the dark clothing, like flowers quietly blooming across her body.
Yanmei’s cough suddenly disturbed Xuanyan’s thoughts and dragged him back to reality. "Mother, when did you arrive?" she asked hesitantly. At that moment she truly wished the ground would open and swallow her.. She had tried so hard to keep her feelings hidden from everyone, yet today everything had been heard. Shit... this is all that bastard’s fault. Her head slowly turned toward Xuanyan, giving him a murderous glare.
Mei Lingyao didn’t even respond to Yanmei’s question, her attention completely fixed on Xuanyan. "Are you really going to stare at your future master like that?" she asked lightly, her lips curving in faint amusement. "I wasn’t expecting such a troublesome individual."
Xuanyan cleared his throat and briefly looked away, releasing a long breath inside his mind as he silently thanked every god he could remember from his past life — and his system as well — for giving him such a ridiculous ability.
Natural Charm: Doubles Charm attribute and greatly improves first impressions when interacting with others. Without that skill he was certain her reaction might have been very different, and a bad first impression from someone like Mei Lingyao could make future interactions extremely troublesome.
Xuanyan turned back toward her again, his face heating slightly when his eyes landed on her figure once more, though this time he deliberately allowed himself to appear a little more flustered. He stood up and gave a respectful bow. "I was just not expecting my future master to be such a beautiful—"
"Such what?" Mei Lingyao interrupted with a smirk. "Beautiful?"
Before she could continue teasing him further, the door suddenly opened and Lingling stepped into the room holding a tray of tea. She stopped the moment she entered, staring at the scene in complete confusion. Yanmei was still on the floor, her face red like a tomato, while Xuanyan was trying very hard to keep his expression straight but failing as a smile kept threatening to appear.
"What happened here while I was gone?"
***********************************
After the awkward introductions were finally over, the four of them sat around the table.
Mei Lingyao was seated directly in front of Xuanyan, so he tried his best not to look up. Instead, he focused on the tea in front of him, pretending to be deeply interested in it as if he were carefully appreciating its taste.
Unfortunately, that was not the case at all.
Xuanyan had no idea how this tea was brewed or what spiritual herbs had been used to make it. To him, the taste was absolutely terrible. Even so, he continued drinking it slowly so it wouldn’t look strange in front of everyone.
Meanwhile, Yanmei sat across from Lingling with a completely blank expression. Mentally, she wasn’t present there at all. At that moment, even seclusion cultivation for the next hundred years sounded like a good idea.
After what had just happened earlier, the embarrassment refused to leave no matter how much she tried to calm herself. When she finally lifted her eyes, they immediately landed on the source of all her misery.
"Xuanyan!"
He was calmly drinking tea as if nothing had happened. Then their gazes met for a brief moment. Xuanyan suddenly found the ceiling extremely interesting. The patterns carved into the wood above suddenly looked far more fascinating than anything happening at the table.
The good thing was that Mei Lingyao didn’t continue the conversation from earlier. Because of that, the room soon fell into a quiet silence where everyone simply drank their tea.
Lingling was unusually quiet as well. Every time her mother’s gaze moved toward her, a faint blush appeared on her face. Unable to endure that gaze for long, she lowered her head and focused on Xuanyan instead.
Seeing such a natural and beautiful smile on her daughter’s face made Mei Lingyao feel extremely pleased. Without Xuanyan realising it, his image had already risen several levels in her mind.
She quietly observed the three of them for a moment, the faint smile on her lips never disappearing.
"Did you learn alchemy before?" Mei Lingyao suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
Yanmei had already explained the situation to her earlier. According to her description, it had been Xuanyan’s very first time refining a pill, yet he still managed to succeed. The troublesome part was that the pill he refined had already reached Grade Two.
In her entire life, Mei Lingyao had never seen such talent before.
"Not really," Xuanyan replied while placing the cup back onto the table. He had finally endured enough of that terrible tea. "I only learned some basic theory from an outer sect disciple in exchange for a few spirit stones. That day I simply followed what I remembered."
Mei Lingyao looked at him for a moment before asking another question.
"So tell me... how is the tea?"
Her tone sounded calm, but her gaze was fixed directly on him. Lingling and Yanmei immediately looked toward Xuanyan as well, because they both understood that this question was not as simple as it sounded. If he could identify the ingredients used in this tea, Mei Lingyao would definitely be very pleased.
Xuanyan naturally had no answer to that question, so he quietly asked the system. However, this time the system’s response made his heart sink slightly, the answer required system points.
Xuanyan realized what was happening immediately. But at this moment, he couldn’t avoid responding, because Mei Lingyao was still waiting for his answer.
