An Owl's Rise-Chapter 466 - Turning Point
With a hastily constructed barrier of pure magical energy, the Deamhain Sect executive shielded himself from the spears of ice moments away from turning him into a pincushion.
Thanks to his superior powers, it was easy enough to deflect the spell, but it was far from all he had to worry about.
Evelyn, Lucia, Rehni, and Aralee all launched their own attacks in time when he was most off balance.
"Don't think that this will be enough to stop me!" The man shouted, creating platforms in the air to serve as footing as he dashed away.
His speed and thought process still outstripped all of their abilities by a wide margin.
Yet, no matter how fast he could move, it could not help him escape the cage Evelyn had set.
Before he got far, another sigil suddenly appeared in his way, this time slamming an immense force of gravity on top of him and bringing him to a momentary halt.
"It's been a while since I've used them, but my gravity traps really are useful for catching slippery prey." "Evelyn said mockingly as she sent an enormous blaze firing from her spear.
From multiple other directions, magic blasts were coming his way. Now that he was injured and held within a trap, it was much easier for Evelyn and her companions to coordinate their attacks.
In a single moment, the Deamhain Sect Executive calculated the best possible path to slip through the spells closing in on him.
To him, it seemed that there were three possible paths, with two offering a bit more room to maneuver between them.
He figured that these were obvious traps and ran in between Evelyn's fire and Lucia's light magic attacks.
These strikes were obviously the most threatening, and he had to coat himself in a shell of magical energy to slip by as the beam of light grazed him.
Nevertheless, he managed to thread the small cleared and figured that he had thwarted whatever his adversaries had been planning by leaving him two clear paths of escape.
However, he soon found out that he had stumbled into the worst possible outcome for him. This entire time, the individual's whose magic he had been most conscious of was neither Evelyn nor Lucia. Certainly, they boasted the most power, but there was another that he felt was more threatening to him.

The owl that shared the same type of magic as him, Aralee.
While he specialized in using momentum magic to speed himself up, she was a bit more well versed in the opposite side of momentum magic.
Aralee excelled at slowing things down, though, she was no slouch when it came to increasing speed as well.
Of course, with the difference in their abilities, she could never hope to compete with the Deamhain Sect Executive in his specialty. Still, for a man that relied heavily on his speed, being slowed down even the slightest bit would be detrimental.
As he noticed the thin film of nearly imperceptible light pink magic flying towards him, he found himself stepping on another of Evelyn gravity traps.
This time, it forced him upwards, directly into Aralee's magic.
"I finally got you." Aralee shouted, both in surprise and glee.
Turning all of her concertation toward the debuff she had applied to the man, she poured on her magical energy, pushing herself beyond her limits just as her sister was.
Naturally, this had an adverse effect on her body, and bloody began to pour of her nose as she forced her own magical will over the Deamhain Sect Executive.
This really only slowed him slightly. By around ten percent at most. He was still blindingly fast by any metric.
Except, this served as enough for the others to start truly putting the pressure on. More than his physical state, it was his mental state that was deteriorating the worst.
Feeling trapped and having another's magic affecting him was eating away at his mind.
Every step he took was laborious compared to usual and required immense concentration as he had to keep track of where he had already been, less he run into another of Evelyn's gravity traps.
"Gah!"
It was not much longer until he momentarily slipped up, and though it was just a graze, Lucia's claws sliced into his flesh and drew blood.
Feeling infuriated, the man moved to counterattack and pummel the giant gleaming wolf that had just scratched him.
As he was about to strike, though, he leapt back and continued moving erratically to avoid taking another blow.
"I'd almost caught him." Rehni grumbled.
She had cast a web of thin metal wires in front of Lucia. Had the Deamhain Sect Executive taken another step forward, she could have ensnared him.
For several minutes the battle continued in a similar way. Evelyn and Lucia used their own superior speeds to chase after the man, while Rehni and Bylur set up additional impediments to keep him from retaliating or moving as he wished.
It seemed that they had completely reversed the situation. Going from the hunted to the hunters.
But was this really all the power that a top member of the Deamhain Sect was capable of?
So far, he had only displayed momentum magic. And while he was incredibly fast, there were ways to deal with people that simply relied on speed.
"ENOUGH!"
A monstrous amount of magical energy roiled around his body.
Quickly, it began to morph into some sort of silverish magic that coiled around his right hand.
This sudden display was enough to stop Evelyn, Lucia, Rehni, Bylur, and Aralee in their tracks. This was clearly not the momentum magic the man had displayed so far, but something else. A type of power that none of them recognized. Something primordial and dangerous.
With a single straight punch, the Deamhain Sect Executive drove his first into the earth and buried the magic he had conjured into it.
A moment later, the entire world seemed to shake, and the ground exploded.
Great fissures snaked through the land, and hurricane force winds blew in every direction from the force of the attack. It was as if the man had suddenly become the epicenter for multiple natural disasters of the highest order.
