Angel Monarch-Chapter 434: The War for Antarctica (4)
Chapter 434: The War for Antarctica (4)
The lights danced around the sky, its sound a near constant background noise to the fight between Stellars.
Yet even through the thunder, Hu’s roar was clear as day. Filled with pain and suffering, he sounded quite miserable and somewhat broken.
The wind whipped the colossal beast with such speed the rain and blood mix began falling sideways.
Below, four white scaled gigantic arms laid motionless, leaving massive craters behind. Water and blood filled the craters, creating gory lakes.
The crystal angel gently floated before the eastern dragon. She brandished her longswords with a small chuckle and flew towards the old Stellars neck with great speed.
Cass came close to beheading the beast, but killing Stellars wasn’t so easy. Even without arms, the dragon still had enough power to defend against her attack.
Electricity scorched through the massive beast, cauterizing his wounds, regenerating his scales. The lightning in his eyes grew deeper and more powerful.
Suddenly, a loud thunder shook reality, as thousands of lightning formed a storm around the enormous dragon. He roared loudly and flew further up into the sky.
The crystal angel followed just as quickly, yet somehow the dragon disappeared from her vision.
She scanned her surroundings, letting the constant lightning illuminate the storm clouds. Every few seconds, she glimpsed at a massive silhouette moving across the storm, yet she couldn’t properly locate him.
Nearly ten seconds passed, when the thunder subsided for a single moment, and she heard the dragon’s massive jaws open.
Cass turned swiftly, but not quick enough. She gazed down into the eastern dragon’s throat, just as he breathed lightning straight at the crystal angel, breaking it apart.
Kilometers away, Cass finally opened her eyes with a small, content smile. Hu destroyed her last, weakened avatar, which meant she needed to fight him with her actual body!
"Finally, things are getting interesting! I wonder if he can survive my full power!"
Illusions weaved around the Succubus, creating a similar crystal angel as before. However, she layered the crystals, creating a near impenetrable avatar around her small body.
A pair of crystalline longswords appeared in each hand, carrying vast amounts of power and lethality.
The dragon roared far away, and the crystal angel’s wings beat faster than the lightning dancing around the sky.
Hu felt the air pressure change and quickly breathed a cloud of electrified air towards the approaching angel.
Cass brandished her swords. With fast slashes and cuts, she cleared the air in her path, closing the distance between herself and the enormous dragon.
He increased the breath attacks power, further electrifying the air. Hundreds of lightning struck the cloud at once until the air turned into a beam of pure white energy.
A loud roar escaped the dragon’s maw, sending all his power into the bright beam.
The Succubus stopped dispersing the attack, and instead simply raised her swords in an ’X’ before herself.
Two more pairs of arms wielding longswords grew from her chest. She crossed them with the other swords, creating an impenetrable shield.
She also made three more pairs of wings. With quick beats, she stood her ground, not letting the intense beam push her away.
The dragon roared, and the Succubus screamed from the top of her throat.
Her sword shield broke the beam, sending arcs of lightning crashing into the ground dozens of kilometers away. Craters and valleys formed, reaching hundred meter depths. The grass and earth vaporized, and the rain filled the holes, creating lakes and rivers.
The storm only turned heavier, but both Stellars’ struggling screams drowned out the constant sound of thunder.
Cass’s powerful wings gradually pushed her closer towards the enormous dragon. Her crystal blades glowed with the colors of the rainbow as light dispersed in their prism-like depths.
At the other end, Hu moved closer as well. It wasn’t easy, since the electric beam carried enough power to push the massive beast back, but his anger was too much to bear.
When the fight began, he would’ve been happy with a stalemate, but now... Now he wanted to kill the Succubus!
His electric eyes stared down at the approaching crystal angel. He tried further, increasing the intensity, until he felt an agony in his throat, and smelt his blood boiling!
The two Stellars approached each other, consumed by their own suffering.
Cass could barely catch glimpses of the gigantic dragon, but with the constant flow of blinding light, seeing wasn’t necessary.
The distance gradually decreased between the two until only a quarter kilometer separated the giant entities.
Suddenly, Hu stopped breathing pure electric energy, and moved his head and bit down on its end. The energy beam became a physical object, like a gigantic sword, which the dragon wielded with his mouth.
Once the energy beam stopped pushing Cass back, the potential force contained in her shot forward. She flew straight towards the dragon’s maw, but before reaching it, the lightning sword hit her side.
She raised her swords in time, so the weapon didn’t cause any damage. However, it carried enough power to send Cass flying many times faster than the speed of sound.
The crystal angel flew through dozens of mountains until she regained control of her movements.
Her wings beat fast, sending her back into the sky. Through the dark lightning storm, the silhouette of the eastern dragon approached her position.
Under the layers of illusion, Cass grinned widely. Her purple hair stuck to her face from all the sweat. A pair of pink, tired eyes gazed at her enemy.
The dragon roared as its sword glowed brightly, and the Succubus happily screamed back.
Cass wasn’t some battle hungry maniac like Yvonne or Astrid, yet she enjoyed this fight. Deep down, she didn’t want it to end, but also wanted to kill that dragon!
She brandished her six crystalline swords and beat her eight wings. Hu answered similarly, moving his body to one side, then quickly changing direction, aiming the lightning sword at his sworn enemy.
Both moved with extreme speed, carrying immeasurable force. The six swords met with the giant lightning, and the world seemed to stop around the Stellars.
The raindrops slowed, lightning strikes arced away, clouds dispersed. The thunder’s sound turned silent as the air between the weapons exploded, creating a near-perfect vacuum.
The Stellars flew back, leaving behind a gigantic ball of fire and lightning. Its sound echoed throughout half of Antarctica, causing a pause in many battles.
However, Cass and Hu didn’t stop. Once they recovered, each flew against one another with even more power.
Similar to small nuclear explosions, their weapons illuminated the sky for hundreds of kilometers.
The storm clouds disappeared from the area, but the dragon’s lightning still burned strong, sending arcs crashing into the surrounding mountains.
Roars and screams of anger shook reality as the giants fought. Their weapons unbreakable. Their wills unshakable. Their power unbearable.
Their fight of strength and knowledge turned into a battle of attrition. Whoever has less disposable essence will lose!
The question was now... Who used more essence?
Hu, summoning thousands of lightning and shooting concentrated beam of energy. Or Cass, summoning illusion after illusion, then creating a near unbreakable crystal avatar.
There was no point in using superior fighting techniques or trying to outsmart their opponent.
The constant, vast essence usage exhausted them both. Their minds barely recognized the patterns, while their bodies acted on pure impulse and reflex.
Cass flew towards the dragon for seemingly the thousandth time. Below the layers of battered illusions, her body stood covered in sweat. Her eyes kept trying to close, but with all her effort, she stayed awake.
The dragon also moved slower, with much less lightning dancing around his white scales. The energy beam also seemed weaker and smaller.
They finally reached the end of the battle. As they flew against each other, both realized this fact simultaneously.
Six tired arms raised, six chipped, crystalline swords. She lost a few wings throughout the battle, but the main pair remained intact and powerful.
Hu moved its gigantic body from one side, aiming the energy beam straight at the crystal angel.
Each creature roared and screamed one last time, as their weapons met for the last time.
There was no explosion or loud fanfare. The sound of faraway thunder was the only noise echoing in the Stellars’ ears.
The energy beam met with the six crystal swords. They stopped each other perfectly and for a long moment, the dragon and the Succubus gazed into their enemy’s eyes.
Both creatures breathed heavily. Cass’s swords began crumbling, her avatar slowly losing form, but before fully disappearing, Hu’s energy beam fractured.
A shower of lightning landed all over the destroyed mountain range below.
"Guess I won..."
Mumbled Cass, before using her remnant essence to attack the dragon. She still had one illusory arm remaining with a crystal sword.
The dragon breathed heavily as Cas flew closer and, with a single quick slash, she beheaded the beast.
Gravity took hold of the dead dragon. If a human died transformed, they wouldn’t turn back, so both the enormous beast and its gigantic head landed in the craters below.
Gently, Cass floated back to the ground and immediately fell to her knees. Her already blurry vision swam with colors.
A wide smile spread across her face, but just as she prepared to celebrate, she heard someone’s footsteps approaching.
"You actually took down that old fellow, albeit barely! You never did figure out his weakness, which would’ve made this fight much easier... Not like it matters now, since he’s dead and you live... For now!"
The Succubus jumped to her feet upon hearing the scratchy, uncomfortable voice of the man.
A few dozen meters away, she saw a humanoid form kneeling before a puddle of Hu’s blood. He dipped one finger inside, then raised it to his lips and licked it off.
The man wore some kind of blood-red robe and hood, so Cass couldn’t see his face, only his mouth, which was disturbing enough.
"Hmm... So tasty! I swear to whatever higher being that Stellars taste much better than any other Rank!... I haven’t tasted Ethereals though, but maybe that gloomy weirdo will let me have a taste after I kill everyone on this wretched continent!"
A shiver went down Cass’s spine. For some reason, this strange man felt even more dangerous than the massive dragon!
After a few seconds of quick thinking, she made the educated decision and ran away!
Her body split into ten different Cassandras, each running in a separate direction. However, even though there were no easily identifiable features, Slayer found the real one.
He moved so fast, even Cass’s eyes could barely track him. Slayer carried no weapon, since he needed none.
Cass took one breath, and her entire body suddenly stopped moving. She felt an intense pain in her chest, but she couldn’t even scream.
The Succubus’s vision gradually darkened as she felt her life slipping away. The last image she saw was her own heart being raised to the scary man’s lips, and him taking a bite.
"Stellars truly taste amazing!"
