Chapter 138: In The Elven Palace

By the time the trio had returned to Cordelia’s office, Atlas had begun a word-for-word and verbatim report to Cordelia of everything that had happened in the past half day.

After half an hour of explanation and Atlas exaggerating some of the things, Cordelia was beginning to get a clearer picture of the depth of the danger.

The thickness of what was going on was really dangerous. The fact that they hadn’t yet killed every one of the worshippers of demons and angels and that they didn’t know if such a thing would happen in the future, in a populous city or elsewhere, worried even the ancient woman herself for a brief moment.

Still, there was nothing to do now. Except, of course, to get information.

Even if Cordelia hadn’t been overly concerned, Atlas’s words and the little bit of information he had given her about the ’great war’ made her realise that they needed to prepare.

There were, of course, ways to identify angel worshippers. After all, not all demon and angel worshippers had negative karma, so everything had to be tried.

Cordelia had directly summoned one of the sorcerers under her command and Cain himself in particular.

When Cain learnt that he had been summoned on a single, direct order, he immediately abandoned the little research he had been doing on the other side of the continent and came to the academy.

In just an hour Cordelia had given the necessary orders and as Cain stood respectfully in front of her she turned to Atlas and asked, "Atlas, that portal thing...do you know anything about it? There’s no other way for demons or angels to pass through without being summoned."

Cain and the following Sages focused on Atlas with curiosity, and Atlas shook his head and replied, "I got a clue from one of the devil worshippers, but I’m not sure if it’s true...It could be a lie told to get between them and the Epsilon Empire."

When Cordelia heard these words, she shifted herself into a more serious sitting position and gave a direct order, "Speak."

Atlas shook his head and then said, "The World Tree. He said the gateway to the angels, to the paradise of space, was sealed there."

Cordelia shook her head up and down as she heard these words and then turned to Cain and said, "This is what you gonna do. Take Atlas with you and teach him to observe bad karma, while searching the smell of death as you do perfectly. Report everything you find on paper. This is serious, Cain." he gave another firm order.

Cain instantly nodded and immediately grabbed Atlas by his clothes.

With that, several rune fragments formed around Cain and each rune stuck to both his and Atlas’ body.

Atlas looked at Cordelia as his body began to disappear and shouted "OH COME ON!" but then he was gone.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself right in front of the elven palace.

Atlas was furious as Cain gently set him down on the ground. Still, he was not crazy enough to shout at a Sage, so he took a deep breath and then carefully watched the elven knights coming towards them.

As soon as the elven knights saw Atlas, they slowed down and bowed to him, turning from aggressive to polite.

"Duke Atlas, how good to see you," one of the knights said.

When this person removed his helmet, Atlas recognised him as Louis Bijoux, the second elven prince.

"Prince Louis, forgive me, we had to come here unbeknownst to you the second time we met, but we need to speak to Lady Thalia with the utmost urgency," Atlas said. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

When Louis heard these words, his expression changed and he nodded his head as if he understood. At that moment, he turned his head to Cain next to Atlas and then asked, "May I know who this gentleman is?"

Atlas smiled and said, "Sage of Death, Cain Sterling." Cain suddenly said.

Hearing this, Louis immediately bowed, then kneeled and then said, "We are honoured to have a Sage in our palace. Please follow me."

Atlas and Cain started to follow Louis after these words.

After a short time, they managed to reach the interior of the palace, all the way to the throne room. Cain sat on the throne as if he didn’t care about anything and was the owner of both the palace and the kingdom, and Atlas waited respectfully as far away as possible to avoid any diplomatic trouble.

In just half an hour, several dozen elven nobles, elven royalty, and eventually Thalia herself, had rushed into the throne room.

Each of them had seen Cain, who looked at them rudely.

Louis must have told Thalia about Cain’s expression and actions. The only reason Atlas was thinking about it was because Thalia and the others were already on their knees.

That’s the way it should have been, though. The only reason Atlas hadn’t done it by now was because every single Sage loved him madly. Even when he’d first met Cordelia, he’d only bowed in respect and not dropped to his knees...he knew he’d be chosen, or maybe he thought she wouldn’t care.

"Welcome to the ruler of the eastern gloom, the honourable Sage Cain Sterling. It is an honour to welcome you to the Elven Kingdom of Bijoux," Thalia said immediately.

Of course, Juliet was a friend of the kingdom and even a direct family friend of the royal family. Also, Cordelia was quite fond of the elven kingdom, to put it bluntly, but all the Sages acted separately.

Unless Cordelia gave them a direct order.

Each and every one of them had the power to literally tear the world apart. They had power levels that could challenge even the highest level demons and even kill Gabriel, one of the superior angels, or Beelzebub, one of the superior demons.

This was why they all were hunted with poison that was said to "kill the gods" and "the poison that imprisoned Lucifer and Michael". They were simply so strong.

This was the only reason why Atlas was completely safe with them and the reason why everyone who saw them was terrified and worshipped them.

They were gods and goddesses in the truest sense of the word...gods and goddesses, almost every one of them of a different race, and capable of destroying everything.

This was enough to understand why even Thalia was scared.

The fact that all the Sages were acting separately could jeopardise everyone, even if Atlas was here. On top of that, the fact that Cain, who was normally the calmest of the Sages, but who spread ’death’ on his title when he got cranky, was here made everything even shittier.

"Raise your heads. We’re here on Lady Cordelia’s orders for an investigation," Cain said suddenly.

When Thalia and the others stood up, still stressed, Cain turned to Atlas, who was standing at the top of the stairs leading to the throne, and said, "Atlas, explain the situation." he added.

Atlas coughed a little when he heard the order and then looked directly at Thalia and began to speak:

"Some time ago, we managed to get a little information from the devil worshippers we were hunting, information that I don’t think is real, so I ignorantly thought I didn’t need to tell anyone."

"This information described a portal that angel worshippers would try to open. In short, I thought it was a lie to break diplomatic ties between the Elven Kingdom and the Epsilon Empire, but..."

Atlas took a deep breath as he said these words, and with the best acting he could muster, he said the following:

"Earlier today, I was in the kingdom of Akairon, where I went to save someone, cleared the lawless area, and with the clues I went out of the capital city and started to clear other places, while in the east, behind the small hill mountains, I was locked in a barrier."

When he said these words, he looked directly into Thalia’s eyes and then added, "I killed an angel that we think was the lowest level."

Then he waited for a few seconds and, noticing the tension in Thalia’s and each noble’s gaze, he said, "According to the information I was given, the place where the angels are located, the gateway to that strange paradise, is somewhere above the world tree."

After these words, Cain got up from where he was standing and then looked at Thalia and said, "I don’t want anyone in this palace and near the World Tree for a few days. I want to find out if any dark magic has worked on it without damaging the tree. Atlas was sent by the lady Cordelia to find out something."

This was not a request.

Cain was giving direct orders to Thalia Bijoux, the High Elf Queen and a High Elf.

The order could not be refused. Even Atlas could not predict what would happen otherwise.
