Chapter 146: She Will Calm Him Down

When Atlas realised that the nerve that had been pushing his body to the limit had disappeared, leaving only stress and fear, he gently raised his head and, with tears in his eyes, looked carefully at Chaos and asked the question that would surprise even Chaos himself:

"So what am I supposed to do?"

Upon hearing Atlas’s question, Chaos straightened himself up from where he had been leaning and then looked up again at the sky filled with galaxies and stars, and around him.

For nearly a minute and a half, Chaos said nothing. Not a single word came out of his mouth. Even the Creator himself seemed to have no answer for a moment.

Immediately afterwards, it was as if a star had flashed in Chaos’s mind. The ancient being, the creator of all, the ancestor of the Chaos-Born, the father of Nyx and Erebus, and the sole ruler of the cosmos, looked at Atlas and, upon seeing him looking back, spoke the words Atlas would hear just before he suddenly awoke:

"Do what you always did best, be a hero, Atlas."

After these words, Atlas awoke, drenched in sweat. As the icy air from outside touched his skin, he seemed to begin to gather his thoughts.

His mouth felt dry and his mind felt empty. To put it bluntly, it was an incredibly disgusting situation. He couldn’t seem to come to his senses.

[Are you ok?]

It didn’t take long for a message window to appear right in front of his eyes.

Atlas didn’t know how long he had slept, but he could see that it had grown dark, so he was certain he had slept for at least until evening, perhaps five or six hours.

He didn’t even want to respond to the message sent to him. He wasn’t even sure if the things he had seen in his dream were real. Still, he didn’t want to ask Nyx or anyone else.

Instead, he had gone straight to the bathroom and chosen to take a cold shower.

The cold water droplets touching his body had managed to calm him slightly. Still, despite all this, he couldn’t get Chaos’ words out of his mind. How could he?

"Do what you always did best, be a hero, Atlas."

"Do what you always did best, be a hero, Atlas."

"Do what you always did best, be a hero, Atlas."

These words, this sentence, kept circling in his mind. It was as if Chaos was still talking to him, but Atlas couldn’t see him. He felt like he was about to lose his mind. Even though he was taking a shower and his body was being cleansed of sweat, he continued to sweat.

He took deep breaths and tried to figure out what to do.

If he stopped, maybe he wouldn’t have to die, but Chaos’s words were clear—it seemed like there was only one outcome for him, at least as long as he kept doing what he was doing.

And to be honest, Atlas was more afraid than he had ever been before. It seemed as though he was trying to create something good, a place, a world for everyone. Yet in his mind, he was only trying to fight for his family and loved ones.

At least, that’s how it should have been. But what about Chaos’s words? He had no idea how much he would have to do to see that nothing had changed, and this was pushing him to the edge of a cliff, almost causing him to have a panic attack.

It was a terrible feeling. All of these feelings were terrible.

When he got out of the shower, he looked around and left his room after getting dressed. He saw the student committee members but said that no one should follow him.

Shortly afterwards, he began walking through the corridors of the academy like a soulless, empty puppet. The words he had just heard and Chaos’s calm, dry tone of voice still bothered him.

At least he could admit that he was in much better shape than he had been fifteen minutes earlier.

He put his hands in the pockets of his robe and walked towards the academy courtyard. When the cold wind and heavy snow began to fall on him, he sat down on a bench covered in snow and looked up at the sky, which was covered in white clouds.

The pitch-black nightscape visible through the clouds and the snow falling from them was enough to ease his mind a little.

He lay down on the bench and, without paying attention to the snow falling on him, calmly uttered a long "Fuuuuuuck..."

It was as if reality was slowly beginning to hit him.

"I still have the right to choose a god or goddess," Atlas said to himself. He closed his eyes and carefully tried to decide whom to choose as the snow fell on the cold ground.

There were many names in his mind, but to be honest, he had no idea who would be most helpful to him.

Because she had been so helpful and had comforted him, Atlas clearly wanted to choose the goddess Selene.

Still, he was aware that choosing one of the first generations of Titans, Erebus, or one of the Chaos-Born would also be of great benefit to him.

He had put Chaos’ words aside and, even though he knew he was going to die, he had tried to act as if he had finally understood what Chaos was trying to say.

"Do what you always did best, be a hero, Atlas."

If he was going to die, at least he could die having created the most perfect world. At least he thought that would be good.

He took a deep breath. At that very moment, he heard the voice of someone he hadn’t expected:

"Are you okay?"

Unlike the message from Nyx, this was a concrete question, and Atlas could feel the depth of the loving question in his heart in just a second.

When he opened his eyes and saw who this person was, even though he wasn’t feeling well, he didn’t forget to say, "I’m fine."

He got up from where he was lying and made room for the person in front of him to sit down.

However, this person didn’t sit on the bench but placed his hand on Atlas’s chin and gently touched his lips.

This person was none other than Cassandra.

The loneliness in Cassandra’s eyes was clearly visible. Yet, alongside that loneliness, the feelings of love and longing within it also stood out.

Neither Cassandra nor Atlas moved even an inch from their position. It was as if they were covered in a spell of ice. They were like two ’lovers’ staring into each other’s eyes.

"What am I going to do?" Atlas asked after four minutes of standing in that position.

When Cassandra heard this question, she didn’t seem to know what to say. She just looked into Atlas’s eyes with the expression of love on her face and as gently as possible.

Atlas realised that the woman in front of him had nothing to say and, as if he no longer wanted to hide it, said the following words:

"I have met the creator you know? Chaos."

Atlas could not even imagine the effect his words had on the sacred realm. Cassandra’s loving face suddenly fell, and her pupils dilated.

Nyx, Erebus, the other Chaos-Born, the Titans, and every remaining sacred being seemed to be trying to understand what was happening.

Even the Olympians, who were drawing up plans to rescue Michael, had put down their work and begun watching Atlas.

"Did I hear you wrong?" Cassandra asked.

"No. A few hours ago, I spoke with the god Hermes, at a request that I have made, about how we could destroy those who worship angels so that the burden on our shoulders would be lightened..." said Atlas.

"When I finished speaking, I chose to sleep. I was tired, after all, but as always when I fell asleep, something went wrong. This time, I met Chaos himself. He was much more normal than I had expected, to be honest... but the things he said..." he added to his own words.

Cassandra then sat down next to Atlas on the cold snow on the bench and placed her hand on his, asking, "What kind of things?"

Atlas, filled with the joy and relief of knowing Cassandra was by his side, looked into her eyes and replied, "He said I changed everyone’s fate but locked mine."

As Cassandra tried to figure out what this meant, Atlas smiled bitterly and said, "Every step I take, every breath I take, and everything I do brings about my own end, Cassandra." For the first time, Atlas addressed Cassandra directly by her name.

This alone was enough to show how different the feeling was.

"If this continues... I’m going to die," Atlas said, and those words were enough for everyone.

He was unaware of the impact his words had on everyone listening and watching him.
