Antihero In the Hero Academy: I Can Connect the Past Heroes-Chapter 149: The Truth Of The Past (2)
Chapter 149: The Truth Of The Past (2)
"He was 17 when the war began. He was 18 when he volunteered to join the war from the academy. He killed demons and angels until the day he died, and he became the greatest hero in the world until he was 37, but people... our race is untrustworthy... Still, look at this, he still trusts them. Every time I observe his memories, my heart breaks," Orion added.
These words had changed everything. Even the gods and goddesses had begun to take everything, little by little, leaving Cassandra behind.
"Just watch." that came from Chaos to Nyx and Chronos now started to make sense to all.
"I understand. It’s a painful situation, but there’s nothing we can do about it. Still, we’re certain he hasn’t regained his memories, which is a good thing. We need to find something to support him without him noticing, perhaps we could ask Chaos, reach out to the Titans, and have them bestow a blessing upon Atlas," Azula said suddenly.
"I don’t understand, why do you believe he doesn’t have his memories, my love? How can you be so sure?" Orion asked with great curiosity. He believed he was missing something, his precious soul.
"Don’t you remember? Have you forgotten what Atlas said to Cassandra at the entrance to the cemetery?" Azula replied.
"Ah... Atlas called Cassandra his future wife, didn’t he? I had forgotten. I was overwhelmed with joy at seeing my only son." Orion replied.
Azula nodded her head up and down as she spoke, then said, "Yes, in his previous life, before he was sent back in time, Atlas was with Helena, and after Helena died, he never even looked at another woman. Now Cassandra is right there, on side of him, and even though he saved Helena, he hasn’t spoken to her once."
"This means that the past and future have already changed. The Angel Gate has closed, Hermes has agreed to save Michael, and the Sages are alive... Still, Atlas needs to know... The only way to open the Devil’s Gate is not through the Sages’ immense life energy," Orion said.
"You’re right... This means it’s the only way we can help him. Do you want to pray and talk to him?" Azula asked with love and hope in her voice.
"No," Orion replied seriously, then warned his wife Azula, "Don’t forget what Chaos said. Talking to us will lead him to death countless times faster; we must do something else."
"What about Cassandra?" Orion asked suddenly.
"I don’t know... When I observe Cassandra’s memories, I can see that she is deeply in love with Atlas... even a little obsessed... If we share Atlas’s previous life with her, I fear that this love will be broken and we can not do this, we can not affect both of their lives when the world is going towards hell." Azula replied.
When Cassandra heard these words, she immediately raised her head and looked directly into Azula’s eyes, shaking her head from side to side to make it clear that this would not happen.
Azula and Orion stared at Cassandra upon hearing this.
"Can you hear us, dear Sage?" Azula asked.
Cassandra nodded her head in agreement, indicating that it was true.
"Then... when you’re done with Atlas, come to us... We’ll make sure no one treats you with hostility. There will be many things we’ll show you," Azula said gently, then stepped away from the tombstone she was standing on and embraced Atlas tightly.
The smile on Atlas’s face seemed to grow. It was as if he could feel his mother’s spirit embracing him.
After finishing his prayer, Atlas stood up, gently extended his hand to Cassandra, and said, "I hope you’re not angry with me for making you do this." He then turned to the gravestones and said:
"I know you are not here. The only thing I know about you is that you helped others, regardless of their race, and I am proud of you both for that. If I am even a quarter as honourable and good as you two, please listen to my words."
"The person beside me is the Sage of Life, Cassandra Leonardi herself. The Second Sage and an Arch-Vampire... Actually, a High-Arch-Vampire, which makes her the purest blood maybe in all of the world." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
With each word, Cassandra’s gaze locked onto his face with an even gentler expression.
"I don’t know how it happened, but I managed to make Cassandra fall in love with me... And I will marry her in the future. I don’t know what love is, but I know as much about affection as I’ve learned from my sister, and I’m going to do everything I can to make her happy. So, if you are somewhere in the realm of the gods or if there is a real heaven and you two are there, please don’t forget to bless us. I’ve never met you, but I love both of you more than my own life."
With that, he finished his words. Though it was involuntary and unexpected, he noticed his eyes welling up with tears, just like everyone else. Though he couldn’t see the spirits of his mother and father, Cassandra and the gods and goddesses could see that both of them were crying—the only one who couldn’t see it was Atlas himself.
With that, Cassandra left the small temple with Atlas without saying a word and without letting go of his hand for even a second, and they quickly left the cemetery.
Atlas went to the restaurant he always visited with the pocket money his sister had left him when he was a child, and the restaurant owner even refused to accept payment from Atlas.
Indeed, after a dinner eaten with the love two individuals felt for each other, this romantic adventure had come to an end.
Cassandra held Atlas tightly and teleported back to the academy immediately after dinner, and with that, the two parted ways for the day.
Now, neither the weight of Chaos’ words nor anything else was on Atlas’ mind. It was as if he had tasted true love again after a long time.
When Cassandra returned to Cordelia’s room, to the Sages, the Ancient Woman’s already pale skin had turned deathly white.
Cassandra, who had parted ways with Atlas, was still reeling from the shock of the spirits she had seen just a few hours earlier. It was a well-known fact that no one else could see spirits in detail except Cain, known as the Sage of Death.
This either meant that Cassandra had lost her mind or that there was something here she did not know about.
Cordelia and the others had witnessed Cassandra’s state, and Cassandra had recounted everything that had happened to them in full detail.
At the same time, Cassandra made it clear to the Sages that she would go to the cemetery again tomorrow and then to the small temple where Atlas’s family’s graves were located. When the sun began to rise again, the Ancient Woman teleported directly in front of the temple.
Perhaps for the first time since Nyx’s eyes had been fixed on Atlas, the eyes of every god and goddess, including Nyx, were now fixed on someone else.
That person, of course, was Cassandra herself.
Like Cassandra, every sacred being desired to know what was happening. Among these sacred beings, those who desired this the most were, as could be understood, Nyx and Chronos.
Cassandra took a deep breath and saw that the spirits around her bowed to her in respect, then said, "All right. I haven’t lost my mind," and entered the small temple.
When the Ancient Woman entered the small temple, she was greeted by Azula and Orion. The two, sitting on their own tombstones, looked carefully at Cassandra.
"I came as you wished... Madam, Sir," Cassandra said politely.
Upon hearing these words, Azula rose from the gravestone she was sitting on and gently caressed Cassandra’s cheek, saying, "You can call us mother and father, it’s no trouble for us, sweetheart."
Before Cassandra could respond, Orion’s small cough caused Azula to return to her seat, and Orion gently said, "We won’t explain everything to you verbally. It would be better to imprint what we saw into your memories. Just as Chaos did to us."
When the Ancient Woman heard these words, she shook her head and replied, "No problem for me sir—I mean, father."
Meanwhile, both Azula and Orion had opened their hands toward Cassandra. The two suddenly appeared before the Ancient Woman and touched her head. Everything they knew began to enter Cassandra’s mind at that moment.
Cassandra saw everything. Literally, everything.
The times when Atlas was alone. The times when he tried not to freeze on the battlefield. The times he tried not to starve to death. The times he was betrayed by the people he had saved. The times he lost his loved ones.
And hundreds more... no, thousands more.
Cassandra’s nose began to bleed. Even though it didn’t harm a vampire like her, it was easy to understand how heavy the burden of the memories being imposed on her mind was.
Shortly thereafter, it happened. Cassandra had vanished from the small temple she was in and teleported to another place...
The battlefield she had seen in Atlas’s previous nightmare.
