Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 132 Time To Harvest
Back in Vile Valley, two days passed in a blink of an eye, and the red mist had begun dissipating, making the sky more visible.
The valley had grown livelier during those two days. The farmers walked through the fields every morning and evening to check the crops, and each time they came back with brighter expressions than before. What had once been a wide stretch of uncertain farmland was now filled with thick rows of green plants swaying under the breeze, and the sight alone lifted the mood of everyone living in the fortress.
By the third morning, the crops were ready to be harvested.
The news spread quickly through the farming sector, and before the sun had fully risen over the valley, farmers were already gathering in the fields with baskets, knives, and sacks.
The farmland looked vibrant and full of life, with rows of cabbage and lettuce forming thick green layers across the soil while radish leaves poked out of the ground in clusters. Potatoes waited beneath the earth, and tall stalks of corn stood proudly in straight lines that stretched across one side of the field.
Carrots and onions filled another section while tomato vines hung heavy with ripe fruit, and beyond them, the rice field shimmered softly under the morning light. Watermelons rested between broad leaves near the far end while peas and beans climbed neatly along wooden supports the farmers had set earlier.
Laurel stood among them with her sleeves rolled up.
Unlike the first day when the farmers had hesitated to step into the fields, today they worked with energy. The moment Laurel gave the signal, everyone moved at once. Some crouched down to harvest lettuce and cabbage carefully while others dug into the soil to pull out potatoes and carrots. A few farmers cut corn from the stalk while others gathered tomatoes and beans into baskets.
Laughter and conversation rose naturally from the field.
"Look at this cabbage!" the chubby man shouted proudly as he lifted one above his head. "This one alone could feed my entire family."
Mama Know-It-All snorted loudly from a nearby row while cutting lettuce. "With the way you eat, that cabbage won’t even last two meals."
Several farmers burst into laughter.
"Mother, you are embarrassing me again," the young man beside her muttered while pulling radish from the soil.
"You embarrass yourself every day," she replied without looking up.
The farmers continued working with cheerful voices echoing across the valley.
Izzy worked close to Laurel the entire time.
While others occasionally paused to chat or wipe the sweat from their faces, Izzy remained focused on the harvest. She moved steadily between rows, cutting vegetables carefully and placing them neatly into the basket she carried.
Every now and then she glanced at Laurel as if making sure she was still nearby.
After a while, Izzy stepped closer with her basket and spoke casually while pulling a carrot from the soil.
"Commander, can I ask you something?"
Laurel wiped dirt from her hands and glanced sideways at her. "What do you want to ask about?"
Izzy smiled slightly. "Ummm the harvest is plentiful, where are we going to store them? I know we have a warehouse by the entrance but isn’t that already filled up?"
"Another warehouse is already built." Laurel pointed at a building not too far from them.
"Oh, I never knew it was a warehouse," Izzy said with a sheepish smile.
"Now you know," Laurel said teasingly. Whenever she spoke with Izzy, she felt it was nice, like a fresh breeze in her life.
"What do you normally do after the farming hours are over?" Laurel asked, trying to continue the conversation.
"I head back home to prepare a meal for my husband and me," Izzy said with sparkling eyes.
"That is nice, I can see from your expression that he treats you nicely."
"Yes, he does." Izzy frowned. "It’s just that someone will not leave him alone to spend a good amount of time with me."
Laurel chuckled, already knowing who she was referring to. "And... the culprit must be Mr. Wayne."
Izzy’s expression turned sour, but a smile bloomed on her face the moment her gaze met Laurel’s.
Not far from them, the daydreamer leaned lazily against the canteen wall with a blade of grass resting between his lips. He watched the busy farmers for a while before speaking in his usual slow tone.
"Who would have thought this field could produce this much food in such a short amount of time?"
Mama Know-It-All immediately glanced at him. "You should talk less and work more."
"I’m supervising," he replied lazily without moving.
Mama Know-It-all threw an onion at him that hit him squarely on his forehead.
"Ahhhh." Mr. Daydreamer groaned in pain, as he lazily rubbed his forehead.
The farmers burst into laughter. They had always wished for him to get his karma for not working, and this moment was all they had been waiting for.
Nearby, the chubby man struggled to carry two baskets filled with potatoes while his wife walked behind him with her hands on her hips.
"If you drop those potatoes, you’ll pick them one by one, and no lunch for you," she warned.
"Yes, wifey." The husband replied like a loyal puppy.
The farmers around them chuckled.
The harvest continued throughout the morning.
Cabbage and lettuce piled up quickly while baskets filled with carrots, radish, onions, and beans lined the edges of the field. The rice harvest took longer, but several farmers worked together carefully to gather it without wasting anything.
As time passed, the field slowly cleared while the storage area beside the road filled with food.
By the time the sun climbed high in the sky, the final rows of vegetables had been harvested.
The farmers stepped back to admire their work.
Large piles of cabbage, lettuce, radish, potatoes, corn, carrots, watermelon, peas, rice, onions, tomatoes, beans, and wheat now covered the open ground near the field entrance, waiting to be transported to the storage houses.
For a moment the entire group stood there quietly.
Soon cheerful voices filled the valley again. "We won’t go hungry anytime soon!"
"This harvest is bigger than anything I’ve seen before!"
Even the farmers who had once doubted the strange water Laurel used now looked at the crops with disbelief and excitement.
Izzy rested her basket on the ground and looked at the piles of food with a satisfied smile.
Then she turned to Laurel again.
"Commander, you are the best." She said with two thumbs up.
