Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 142 Which Side to Support
Some of the people started leaving while others remained in their spots, staring at the soldiers who were now heading to the main camp which was located behind the inner wall.
"Hey, do you think this issue could be resolved by the commander? After all, she is a woman, I believe she can’t stand up to Mr. Wayne or Mr. Lennox. I fear a fight will break out, perhaps we should leave before it gets worse." A woman with blue eyes said, her eyes drifting to the others standing beside her.
"We don’t have any choice but to believe the commander can resolve it. You can leave if you want to but I’d rather stay here because the chances of surviving are higher than beyond the walls." Another woman said with a scoff that meant she wasn’t ready to die.
Before the woman with the blue eyes could speak, a man chipped in on the conversation. "The mist is already gone, maybe leaving the fortress might not be a bad idea. Maybe we will get a chance to get our own land, water source and we could even create our city.
Think about it, the meteor shower had destroyed more than half of the world. And a lot of humans are gone, doesn’t it mean their properties are free?" The man said with mischief and greed dancing in the depths of his eyes.
The woman with blue eyes nodded her head, her brows pulling together in deep thought. "You are right. Rather than staying here and waiting for a bullet to go through your head, we’d better leave."
The other woman stared at both of them as if they had gone crazy. "This is unbelievable, with the infected roaming outside the wall, you will become their food without even reaching your promised land." She clicked her tongue, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe her ears.
The others who were eavesdropping on their conversation frowned as they felt conflicted about what to do. Should they leave or should they trust the commander?
"Not only that, where would you get supplies and food from? Helen, I can’t believe a lawyer like you could think so shallow." The woman added.
Helen sighed deeply. "This is a major clash between the three major powers in the fortress, and you think it would get resolved easily? And not just that, privately hoarding supplies and food together with stealing and lies, there is no way the Lennoxs will go Scot-free.
And the Lennoxes are not the type to go down without a fight. And if they are innocent, who is bold enough to frame them? Think about it, this case might be brushed away but the real danger still lingers as long as the powerful families remain in this fortress."
"What do we do?" A voice whispered from behind them, shaking with fear. "My son is only twelve, what if a war breaks out?"
"We can only pick sides no matter who is right or wrong. The commander is the wife of Mr. Wayne, our support should be with the Waynes." A woman with an elegant poise said. Her brown eyes staring at the distance with a calculating gaze.
"Anna Wayne." Helen immediately recognized her, and her stunned expression instantly turned sour.
"Of course you would say that, you are a Wayne after all." She added.
"She is no longer with that scumbag Ronan, so address her as Anna Vaughan." Another woman’s voice echoed from beside Anna, her tone was harsh and her gaze hostile.
Helen tilted her chin up in a defensive way. "You couldn’t even keep a man, and here you are telling us to support the family that properly kicked you out." She paused as if in deep thought. "Don’t tell me you are groveling to gain their favour."
Anna raised her hand stopping the lady beside her who was ready to teach Helen a thing or two. "She is not worth it Lydia."
Anna turned to Helen and the others. "Think about it, the Waynes have a significant power in the fortress and their madam is the commander, I believe you are wise enough to know who to support." Without bothering to convince the people, she turned around and walked away.
"Still acting big." Helen spat out. She turned to the man who had offered earlier for them to leave. "Anyone who wants to leave to find their own place that is safe and secure can come with us, the option is only open until dawn." Saying that she left.
The people murmured among themselves on who to follow and which path was the safest.
Meanwhile behind them, Jade remained in her spot where she had watched the fight between the Waynes and Lennoxs.
Her fingers clenched by her side. ’This might be the opportunity for me to regain my position in this fortress... and it doesn’t matter who I throw under the bus.’ She thought inwardly, a faint smile curving on her lips.
...
The moment Ling Xuan entered the main camp, her eyes darkened, seeing the tension between the Waynes and Lennox’s soldiers who had been in the camp.
"The Lennox’s soldiers are known for their loyalty and bravery. We will never resort to stealing!" Captain Rowan’s voice echoed through the air.
"That is what you’ll say. No thief will admit to stealing." A Wayne soldier replied in a mocking tone.
Ling Xuan felt anger boiling in her blood. The soldiers didn’t just lack discipline but morals.
"You..." Rowan lifted his fist but stopped midway when a terrifying voice rang from behind him.
"Everyone stand down, or I’ll have your head rolling on the ground." Her words cut through the air like a blade, and the camp suddenly felt like it had teleported to the North Pole.
The soldiers lowered their heads before taking a few steps back from each other.
"Where are the boxes that were found? Bring them out." Ling Xuan commanded.
The Wayne soldiers hurriedly brought the boxes out.
"Commander, the boxes are exactly the same as the ones that were recorded in the armory. Commander, I beseech you to deal with the Lennoxs, the evidence is clear, there is no point in further investigation." The Wayne soldier said with a fierce look.
As long as the weapons were in the boxes, they could easily claim that the Lennoxes hid the weapons in the North district.
Captain Rowan stepped forward. "You haven’t opened the boxes yet, but you want to convict us? With no evidence!" His face reddened with anger.
"Exactly!" Roy shouted behind him.
Ling Xuan raised her hand, silencing the soldiers. "Open the boxes."
