Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 150 Come Back Alive
The soft hue of the golden rays of the sun slowly penetrated through the window, landing softly on Laurel’s face.
Her eyes softened as she stared at herself in the mirror. The suit fitted her better than she had imagined. Her long black hair was pulled up into a braided ponytail.
The black leather pants fitted her perfectly, and the black zip-up leather long sleeve accentuated her curves. Her weapons were strapped around her waist.
She let out a sigh before carrying her backpack.
"You should have my sword so it wouldn’t be weird when I take it out." Ling Xuan’s reluctant voice rang through her head.
"You are letting me touch your sword? That’s new." Laurel said with a teasing tone.
"I’m not letting you touch it, it’s because we have no other choice." Ling Xuan said, though Laurel could already imagine her gritting her teeth.
"Fine," Laurel muttered.
With that she willed the sword to appear in her, the sword appeared inside its black sheath. Laurel hung it across her shoulders before walking out of her room.
The moment she stepped out of her apartment a truck jeep was already waiting outside for her.
Alexander stepped out of the truck, already dressed in his own suits. "We should get going now, don’t worry Grandpa Wayne will take care of everything in the fortress."
Laurel nodded her head. "I know, but I’d like to say a few words to him before leaving." She said, walking towards the back of the truck.
Laurel climbed into the truck and sat quietly beside Alexander as the vehicle rolled through the wide inner streets of the fortress, the early morning light slowly spreading across the buildings while the residents began their day with the normal routine.
The truck soon stopped in front of the Wayne residence, and Laurel stepped down from the vehicle while Alexander followed behind her as they walked through the open gate and into the quiet courtyard.
Grandpa Wayne was already waiting inside the living room as if he had expected them to arrive at this hour, his old but powerful figure sitting upright in his chair while a cane rested beside him, and when Laurel entered the room he lifted his eyes slowly to look at her from head to toe before letting out a faint sigh.
"Grandpa Wayne." Laurel greeted.
"So you really plan to leave the fortress," he said calmly.
Laurel stepped forward and stopped in front of him, her expression gentle but serious. "I have to go, Grandpa, there are things outside the fortress we must obtain if we want this place to survive the coming months. The fortress will be under your care while I’m away."
Grandpa Wayne nodded slowly, though his eyes lingered on the weapons strapped to her waist and the sword across her back before he leaned back slightly in his chair. His brows furrowed slightly by the mere aura the sword was exuding.
"I’ll take care of it, it is in good hands."
Laurel gave a small nod. "I know that is why I’m asking for this favour, I hope you will take care of it for me, because this place... is my legacy."
For a brief moment, Grandpa Wayne remained silent as if weighing the meaning behind her words, and an unknown glint flashed through his eyes so fast that Laurel missed it.
Though before he could respond Ling Xuan’s voice suddenly echoed through Laurel’s mind with cold indifference.
"You’re too polite."
And before Laurel could respond, Ling Xuan suddenly took over the body.
"What I mean is," she said through Laurel’s voice, her calm tone carrying a quiet warning that caused Alexander’s brows to twitch slightly. "You can sit in that chair and act like the wise elder of the family while we are gone, but if you try anything funny behind our backs I will make sure you regret it."
The temperature inside the room dropped drastically as if someone had opened the window to the north pole.
Grandpa Wayne’s brows pulled together instinctively as he stared at Laurel with a mixture of surprise and irritation, clearly not expecting such blunt words to come from her mouth.
He opened his mouth as if he intended to reprimand her for the disrespect. But the moment his eyes met hers, he suddenly felt an invisible pressure settle over the room. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The aura pressing down on him was heavy and suffocating, as if a silent predator had fixed its gaze on him from across the room.
The old man’s expression stiffened slightly. For the first time in years, he felt his chest tighten under the weight of someone else’s presence. And not just anyone, a kid who did not dare look into his eyes before.
After a long moment, he slowly nodded his head.
"I understand."
The pressure vanished instantly as Ling Xuan withdrew, letting Laurel take control again.
Grandpa Wayne cleared his throat lightly before waving his hand dismissively as if the strange moment had never happened.
"Just bring yourself back alive," he said.
Laurel smiled awkwardly before bowing her head slightly. "I will." She wasn’t sure if he truly meant those or not, but Ling Xuan had definitely made everything more awkward than it should have been.
After finishing their conversation Laurel stepped out of the living room and walked down the corridor toward another room where Grandma Wayne and Tina were waiting, and the moment she entered Tina rushed toward her like a small storm before wrapping her arms tightly around her waist.
"You can’t go!" Tina cried, her voice trembling as tears filled her eyes. "Take me with you!"
Laurel chuckled softly and patted the girl’s head. "You know I can’t do that."
Tina tightened her grip stubbornly. "I can fight too!"
"I know," Laurel said gently, crouching slightly so their eyes met. "But someone has to stay here and make sure the fortress doesn’t collapse while we’re gone, and you’re one of the people I trust to protect this place."
Tina’s lips trembled slightly.
"But..."
"No," Laurel said softly but firmly.
Tina sniffed before reluctantly letting go. "I’ll miss you." She said, her eyes narrowing.
"I’ll miss you too." Laurel pulled her into a hug.
Grandma Wayne sighed quietly from her chair.
"Children these days always think they can fight the whole world," the old woman muttered before looking at Laurel with a softer gaze. "You could have assigned soldiers to go, you don’t have to go yourself. But no matter what I say, you won’t listen..." Grandma Wayne looked away hiding the concern in her eyes. "Just come back alive."
Laurel nodded. "I will."
