Chapter 69: The Visitor

"This is nothing compared to what you want to show me?" Magnus exclaimed, his voice filled with disbelief.

Vorax bobbed his head up and down as Magnus stared ahead.

What could it be that Vorax wanted to show him? What could be so valuable that even all the magical plants here were considered insignificant in comparison?

Curiosity burned within him, but even more than that, excitement bubbled in his chest as he continued walking deeper into the cave.

The path ahead was lined with even more magical plants, glowing faintly with energy, but Magnus ignored them all. His focus was solely on whatever lay deeper inside—the thing Vorax was so eager to show him.

The cave tunnel soon came to an end, opening into a vast chamber. High above, a massive opening in the mountain let sunlight stream in, illuminating the space. Magnus’s gaze swept across the area, quickly spotting something glittering in one corner—beast cores. Dozens of them, scattered about, their surfaces gleaming under the light. These must have been the ones Vorax had collected since yesterday. However, Magnus barely spared them a glance. Right now, beast cores were the least interesting thing here. Instead, he turned his attention to his surroundings.

He looked around carefully. At first glance, there didn’t seem to be anything particularly special about this place. Sure, there were more magical plants here than in the previous parts of the cave, but that was expected since this space was far larger than the narrow tunnel leading to it. Nothing about it seemed to justify Vorax’s excitement.

Yet, Vorax clearly thought otherwise.

As soon as they arrived, the little creature detached from Magnus’s neck. Its small, fluffy worm-like body landed with a soft thud before it rushed forward with surprising speed.

Magnus frowned in confusion, his eyes following Vorax as it stopped in front of something. When he saw what it was, his brows furrowed deeper.

"You need the Celestial Essence for that?" he asked, pointing at what appeared to be a sapling.

Vorax nodded vigorously.

Magnus was taken aback. He hadn’t expected this. What was Vorax planning to do with the Celestial Essence? From the looks of things, it seemed like Vorax intended to use it on the sapling to help it grow. But how?

After a brief pause, Magnus asked, "How many do you need?"

Vorax responded through their mental link. Magnus frowned for a moment, then sighed. Without hesitation, he opened his system interface and navigated to the shop.

A few moments later, five Celestial Essences rested in his palm.

Vorax’s eyes widened the moment it saw the tiny crystals, shimmering with celestial energy. Meanwhile, Magnus felt a sharp pang in his heart—fifty thousand evolution points, gone in an instant. He could only hope this would be worth it.

Vorax sent him another message through their link.

"You want me to drop them on the ground?" Magnus asked, puzzled.

Vorax nodded.

Magnus hesitated briefly, then glanced at the glowing crystals in his hand before letting them fall.

The tiny crystals slipped from his grasp, tumbling through the air. Magnus’s eyes remained fixed on them as they fell—until suddenly—

Just before the crystals touched the ground, a wave of energy materialized from below, surging up to meet them.

The moment the energy made contact, the crystals instantly dispersed. Magnus knew they hadn’t simply vanished—rather, they had been absorbed, converted into pure energy beyond the visible spectrum.

Without hesitation, he activated [Empyrean Codex].

A purplish glow appeared in the center of his iris as his vision shifted.

Unlike before, when the ability allowed him to perceive the world through patterns and glyphs, this time was different. Now, he saw the world in golden lights—lights representing energy.

This was one of the many uses of [Empyrean Codex]—the ability to see energy in all its forms, tracking its flow and circulation. Each type of energy had a different color: mana appeared white, while celestial energy, like the one present in this cave, radiated gold.

With his enhanced vision, Magnus immediately focused on the phenomenon occurring beneath him. His eyes widened in shock as he saw what was happening.

A vortex of golden energy had formed at the exact spot where he had dropped the Celestial Essence. The energy swirled furiously, absorbing the essence at an alarming rate.

But that wasn’t what shocked Magnus the most.

It was what the absorbed energy was doing.

Instead of dispersing aimlessly, the celestial energy flowed downward, traveling through the ground as if following invisible channels. It spread out like veins, connecting to every magical herb and plant in the chamber, nourishing them with divine energy.

Magnus’s breath hitched.

"What the hell...?" he muttered, watching the astonishing scene unfold.

Realization struck him like a bolt of lightning.

Back on Earth, when he played Emperor’s Crucible, he had created something similar—an herb garden. It was a system he had acquired after grinding for days to unlock its blueprint.

The concept was simple: an array would be drawn on a piece of land, designed to absorb energy and convert it into a form that plants could use for nourishment.

But this... this was far more advanced.

Unlike the array in the game, this place had no visible formation, no carved patterns or drawn glyphs. Yet, it was still able to absorb and convert celestial energy into something beneficial for the plants.

How?

Magnus clenched his fists as his mind raced

Was it because that was just a game while this was real? Were things done differently in reality compared to the game?

But that didn’t make sense. So far, everything Magnus had discovered in Aetherium—from magical abilities to strange phenomena—was beyond anything he could have imagined in his previous life on Earth. Yet, even in this world, things had rules. As someone with Conceptual Manipulation Magic and the [Empyrean Codex], he understood that well.

Everything—magic, arrays, even the tiniest processes—followed a certain principle, a logic that governed them.

Nothing came from thin air. Everything had an origin. So, for this to happen, there had to be something within the ground itself. Since there was no visible array, Magnus focused his gaze deeper, but he still couldn’t spot anything.

The energy from the Celestial Essence kept getting absorbed into the earth, refined, and then spread throughout the area, nourishing every herb and plant in sight.

"Strange," Magnus muttered, furrowing his brows as he scanned the cave.

He couldn’t pinpoint the cause, which frustrated him. However, after a moment, he sighed and decided to leave it for now. Instead, he turned his attention to the rest of the cave. That’s when he made another discovery.

The place only seemed to absorb Celestial Energy.

He realized this after noticing the pile of beast cores lying untouched in a corner. Despite the energy leaking from them, none of it was being absorbed. Instead, the cores just sat there, ignored. It was as if the ground rejected them—like they were nothing but impure energy, unworthy of being processed.

Magnus shifted his gaze back to the plants. The more he observed, the more shocked he became.

The absorbed Celestial Energy wasn’t just nourishing the herbs—it was accelerating their growth at an astonishing rate. Herbs that should have taken years to mature were growing in mere moments.

"This is incredible," Magnus murmured, the pain of spending fifty thousand evolution points fading little by little.

Even now, only a third of the Celestial Essence had been absorbed, yet the effects were already remarkable.

The potential of this place was limitless. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

With proper cultivation, the herbs here could make him a fortune in the outside world. He could also bring in rare and high-grade herbs, allowing them to thrive under this environment—all at the cost of Celestial Essence.

His lips curled into a grin.

I’m rich.

But just as he was lost in thought, a joyful squeak from behind snapped him out of it.

Deactivating [Empyrean Codex], his vision returned to normal. He turned to look at Vorax, who hadn’t moved from his spot beside the sapling.

The little creature stretched its fluffy worm-like body, its eyes locked onto the tiny plant as it let out another happy squeak.

Magnus frowned slightly. What exactly is this sapling going to grow into?

Judging by Vorax’s excitement, it was going to be something valuable.

He couldn’t help but be curious.

Still, there was nothing else he could do for now. He and Vorax remained in the cave for a while longer before Magnus finally decided it was time to leave.

Vorax was reluctant to part with the sapling, but it eventually gave in—knowing it would take time for the plant to mature.

Returning to Magnus, Vorax wrapped itself around his neck as usual, and they made their way back toward the cave’s exit.

Once outside, Magnus took out another Celestial Essence and fed it to Vorax, allowing the little creature to replenish its energy.

He still needed to explore the surrounding area, and Vorax’s levitation ability was the fastest and most efficient way to move.

As soon as Vorax finished absorbing the energy, it activated its ability.

Once again, a strange golden light materialized beneath Magnus, lifting him into the air as they quickly flew away from the cave entrance.
