Chapter 40 - 40: The Zombies Getting Stronger

The following morning, when Chu Miao woke up, she realized that the water trickling from her hand had expanded a little. Even though the change was almost negligible, it was there.

She went into the bathroom to freshen up and headed to the living room where everyone else was waiting. Her mother was cooking breakfast in the kitchen.

"Did you guys notice that your superpowers had gotten stronger?" She asked as soon as she sat down.

Yes, all the members of the Chu family found out the previous day morning that they had awakened superpowers on top of the elements they cultivated.

Chu Miao had awakened the water superpower, Father Chu had awakened the earth ability, Chu Hao had awakened the space superpower, Mother Chu had awakened the wood ability, Grandpa Chu had awakened the metal ability, and the butler had awakened fire.

Now, all the members of the family had dual abilities except for Mother Chu, who triggered the wood element and awakened the wood ability. Nevertheless, this also meant she had twice as much energy as other wood element superpowers when healing.

"Yes, the difference is very small but it is there." Chu Hao replied as he had also realized that his superpower ability had strengthened.

"It's not just the superpower, my cultivation feels stronger as well." Grandpa Chu told them his observation.

"We haven't cultivated for two days and have rested enough. I was thinking that tonight we should resume cultivation, but instead of cultivating in the space ring, let's cultivate in the apartment." Chu Miao felt that something about the fog was beneficial to them and made such a suggestion.

"I also feel that there is something strange about the fog appearing, but it's not affecting us. Instead, it's beneficial. So let's try cultivating in the fog." Father Chu suggested.

"We'll do that tonight. Let's hope the fog appears again." Grandpa Chu said with a sigh.

While they were discussing cultivation, Chu Miao had picked up her phone and was browsing the internet.

"Unfortunately, while the fog seems to be beneficial to those who have awakened superpowers, it is also beneficial to zombies as they are stronger than yesterday. People on the internet are complaining about the flesh-eating monsters moving faster than yesterday."

" I saw the complaints too. There are also reports of more people turning into zombies. It looks like every time the fog appears those who have awakened superpowers and zombies become stronger, and ordinary people either awaken a superpower or turn into zombies." Chu Hao said with a heavy heart.

"If it was a fifty-fifty chance it would have been good. Unfortunately, 90% of those exposed to the fog turn into zombies. At this rate, if the fog doesn't stop, the human race will be on the brink of extinction." Grandpa didn't know whether to be happy or sad.

"I believe we will find a solution." The butler commented while patting Grandpa Chu on the shoulder.

While they started to eat breakfast, the men on the lower floors were also discussing the same issue. They had also noticed the changes in their abilities.

"Let's practice in the fog tonight. I noticed that the fog only stayed for three hours before disappearing. If it appears today there is no need to close the windows. Cultivate in the fog and let's observe the changes." Ye Xuan told everyone his observation.

"The boss is right. This fog seems to make those who have awakened superpowers stronger, but it has the same effect on zombies." Jing Xian said.

"It looks like we will have to work hard to become stronger. If the zombies are getting stronger every time there is fog, then soon weaker humans won't be able to kill them. The situation will change." Gu Fan said with a sigh.

"Today when we go to collect supplies, let's try to kill the zombies we come across with our superpowers. It is a good opportunity for us to practice and get used to our abilities before the zombies become too strong and overwhelm us." Ye Xuan instructed his men.

Everyone agreed with this suggestion because they had also gone out early in the morning to survey and found that the zombies were moving faster than yesterday, and the stiffness in their movements had lessened.

This was not a good sign for the living humans. If zombies started moving faster than ordinary people, then that means that those who could not fight could only wait to become zombie food or be turned into mindless flesh-eating monsters.

This will also reduce the number of survivors and increase the zombie population.

"We should try to kill as many zombies as we can while they are still weak. Once they are stronger, it will become a challenge." Murong Yi suggested as he played with the small brick he had formed on his palm.

"Let's go to the First Hospital today. Most of the patients and healthcare workers turned into zombies when the fog first appeared. So that place is overrun with zombies. We can practice our superpowers and collect medical supplies." Ye Xuan made the decision.

No one had an objection to his decision. After all, killing zombies was doing service to the country.

These men still had the heart of a soldier within them.

"Alright, eat breakfast first and Li Kun can go up the mountain with Gu Fan to store the supplies we got from the warehouse yesterday. Once you are done follow us to the hospital." After Ye Xuan gave the order he stood up and went to the dining room.

Pei Ming had been cooking breakfast. He might not be the brightest among the brothers, but he was the best cook.

They ate breakfast quickly and left. One group headed to First Hospital and Li Kun headed to the mountain with Gu Fan.

As they drove on the road, they saw more zombies on the streets than the day before. Moreover, even with the sun so hot already, it was obvious that the zombies were moving faster than yesterday.

Observing their surroundings, they could see that more people were out looking for supplies, and some places, like the gas stations, had armed soldiers guarding them.

The military had taken over most supply points.
