Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 476: Liang Wei
"Long time no see, Major Ye." Liang Wei saluted while outside the vehicle.
Commander Shen hadn’t told him who he was escorting and just said it was an old friend.
He hadn’t expected it to be his old rival.
Ye Xuan was also surprised to see who had shown up, but he still had great respect for his old acquaintance.
So, he got down from the car and saluted back.
"Long time no see, Liang Wei." Ye Xuan replied with a barely noticeable smile.
"Commander Shen asked me to show you the way." Liang Wei informed and Ye Xuan had him get in the car as well.
Luckily, the modified Humvees that Grandpa Chu had purchased were big enough to accommodate more people and it wasn’t crowded even with one more person.
"So, you are still in service?" Ye Xuan asked curiously.
He had thought that with Liang Wei’s ambition, after the apocalypse started, he would retire and probably build his own private base or something.
He had not expected him to still be working in the military.
"Yeah, now is when our country really needs us. We can’t abandon them when the citizens need us the most." Liang Wei replied quietly.
"That’s very noble of you." Ye Xuan teased.
"Not as noble as you though. Even after retirement and the apocalypse, you are still working for the country." Liang Wei jabbed back.
As a qualified rival, of course he knew all about his rival/friend’s secret missions after retirement.
He also found out about what had happened with the president and in the South area of the base.
"Would you like to serve the country in a different way?" Ye Xuan suddenly changed the topic.
"What different way?" Liang Wei became curious when he heard that question.
He knew Ye Xuan too well and was aware that he would never talk nonsense.
"It won’t be too different from what you do now. Hunting zombies, searching for supplies and protecting the people. Except, the resources will be better in every way." Ye Xuan baited.
Since they had decided to recruit more soldiers and more citizens into the sect, he had to find someone trustworthy who knew the characters of the others, no one was more qualified than the man in the car with them at that moment.
"Better resources you say? For the same work I am doing now?" Liang Wei asked cautiously.
He almost couldn’t believe such luck. Who wouldn’t want a better life if they could have one? He had stuck in the military because he took an oath to serve his country and the people and he took it very seriously.
But if he could fulfill the oath, just in a different way, with better conditions, why would he refuse?
He just didn’t know what the catch was.
"Yeah. Look at my team. Do they look like they have suffered? We have enough resources, but limited manpower.
Our goal is to eliminate the zombies and restore humanity to the way it was before. But for that to happen, we have to fight many wars against zombies, especially since they are evolving so fast.
However, we can’t just recruit everyone because some people would just join us for the resources and do nothing or bring chaos to the sect.
So, we need people with honest characters. Even if their talent isn’t good, at least they can train harder.
We are also not just taking in soldiers, but also normal citizens.
Our place is like a safe Haven in the times.
It has better security than any place on earth now, I believe and better resources too.
There is no lack of food or water and the residents aren’t overworked and underpaid.
Think about it." Gu Fan didn’t usually talk a lot, but he made an exception this time to explain to Liang Wei the situation in more detail because he knew that Ye Xuan couldn’t.
Listening to how Gu Fan praised this ’sect’ they mentioned so much, Liang Wei got curious.
What was this safest place on earth and why was it so?
Before he could ask, Li Kun cut him off.
"We can’t tell you more unless you are a member for the safety of our people and the citizens who have joined us."
"Why do you make it sound like a cult?" Liang Wei asked curiously to which the whole car was filled with laughter.
Indeed, both Gu Fan and Li Kun had made the sect sound like a cult.
All this time, Chu Miao had her eyes closed as she sat beside Ye Xuan.
She had only greeted Liang Wei when he entered the vehicle and went quiet.
She had extended her divine sense to comb through City C just to understand its situation when suddenly she sat up straight with a grave expression.
Her aura also changed into something dangerous, which almost made the unprepared occupants in the car suffocate.
Ye Xuan had to act quickly and create a barrier around Liang Wei to protect him.
Nonetheless, at that moment when Chu Miao’s aura changed, Liang Wei was almost injured.
When the others sensed the change in the atmosphere, they also became alert and instinctively spread their divine sense to scan their surroundings, but found nothing unusual.
"Baby, what happened?" Ye Xuan turned to his girlfriend and asked in a low voice, but everyone in the car heard him, including Liang Wei, who was shocked by the change in the demeanor of Chu Miao as well as Ye Xuan’s pampering tone.
"Let’s check on the family later. We need to go somewhere for now." Chu Miao said and no one questioned her decision and just replied with a yes in unison.
Liang Wei was surprised by such a show of respect and belief. He hadn’t expected the seasoned soldiers to listen to a young girl who seemed to be a teenager.
However, he kept quiet and just observed them.
As a soldier, he had learned a long time ago never to judge a book by its cover.
