Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 493: The New Fertilizer
"Is that all you do? We have tried expediting the crops using wood superpower but they still mutated." Commander Shen thought that there must be something else that allowed the base Chu Miao and her friends came from to thrive. He hoped that if possible, they could share that method with other bases in the country so that more lives could be saved.
"That is basically it. Or maybe the fertilizer developed by the professors we rescued from the research institute has a neutralizing effect on whatever is affecting the soil.
We thought it was just good at boosting the growth speed and improving the quality of the vegetables and fruits." Now Chu Miao knew that she had to come up with a more believable explanation because Commander Shen was quite determined.
"What fertilizer?" The mention of fertilizer surprised him greatly.
Of course, the team doing research in the base had also adjusted the fertilizer used in growing crops but nothing changed except that the crops grew healthier and faster, which meant that the mutated gene in them was stronger and the plants’ ability to attack people also increased.
"It is as clear as water and anyone who didn’t know would think it was drinking water, but I think it is the process of purification that made it so clear.
When concentrated, crops can grow so fast that vegetables such as spinach would be ready to harvest a day after planting.
But I am not sure this is a good thing because the professors advised that the fertilizer must be diluted in water.
In every one thousand liters of water, one liter of fertilizer would suffice." Chu Miao continued to talk nonsense as if it was true and actually managed to convince the Commander.
"Really, and no one has this fertilizer now?" Commander Shen was so excited he almost forgot that they were on the road again.
"Well, its production isn’t really much because I think one of the required materials for production is a type of mutated flower.
It can only be found in a mountain in City A and had been discovered by accident when one of our teammates realized that the plants around that particular flower were bigger, healthier, and had a deeper color than the others.
He had harvested the flower and those plants and brought them back to the sect.
After some research, the professors discovered a unique mineral in the flower that could boost the growth of other plants and that’s how they extracted that element and made fertilizer.
However, the flower is somewhat rare and can’t be found easily. They are now working on cultivating these flowers so that more fertilizer could be produced, but they haven’t succeeded.
I do have about a half liter of the fertilizer though. I had taken it to use on some vegetables we had planted in the greenhouses we had made at the beginning of the apocalypse and I still have some left.
You can take it and have the researchers in your lab study it and see if they could replicate it using different materials." Of course, Chu Miao had been boasting about the spiritual spring water all this time, not some fertilizer.
However, since the Soul Ring could not be exposed so casually, she could only lie to the old man.
"That is appreciated, that is appreciated. Please give me the fertilizer and I will urge those idle people in the lab to work on it.
I hope their fame is enough to find a new way to grow crops and not let the people keep starving." Commander Shen was overjoyed but also worried that the scientists won’t be able to replicate the fertilizer Chu Miao provided.
"Sigh....just let nature take its course." He finally let out a breath and let the matter rest.
The people on the road were curious about the two walking on the road talking so harmoniously. One young and one old, yet they didn’t look out of place having a serious discussion as they walked.
Soon, the two arrived at a small stone room built alone in front of the first apartment buildings occupied by soldiers.
This stone room served as a reception room and command center.
The soldiers received their missions there and two people always worked there in shifts to receive and pass orders.
Chu Miao and Commander Shen came to the stand-alone room and as soon as they walked in, two soldiers inside stood up to salute.
"Welcome Commander." They shouted with vigorous voices that didn’t sound the same way they looked.
The soldiers were skinny. Unlike how soldiers normally looked with a decent build filled with muscles and strength, the soldiers in the base were thin.
They lacked the imposing bodies usually seen in trained men, but their aura had only gotten stronger.
That could be associated with the killing of so many zombies.
However, neither Chu Miao nor Commander Shen looked down on them just because they were skinny. Instead, they showed greater respect because these people could have chosen to leave the military and form their own teams to increase their chances of survival, but they had chosen to remain in service and serve the people.
This was loyalty and determination that was rare to see.
"Go and call a few leaders over, I need to talk to them." Commander Shen gave the order and one of the soldiers on duty ran off without a word.
Chu Miao stood at the window of the small room and looked outside at the apartment buildings in the area.
One could see that these buildings were not the usual normal standard seen in commercial buildings.
They were a bit smaller, which meant that the rooms were smaller as well.
She could not imagine how the families of the soldiers managed to share such a small living area among family members.
It would be fine if the family only had a couple of people, but for bigger families, this would be challenging.
Thank you everyone for your support. I hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you a happy new year. We are celebrating the holidays which is why updates are scarce, but I will still try to update when possible.
Thank you all for the gifts, I hope I get a few new year gifs.
Thank you again.
