Chapter 494: Chapter 494: Shocking People

Soon, a few people appeared in the small security room one after another.

They weren’t young men but middle-aged and some older.

As soon as they walked in, they saluted Commander Shen respectfully.

Commander she seemed to recognize one of them and walked over to exchange some pleasantries before getting down to business.

"We are in danger of being attacked by a huge horde of zombies. Zombies have become smarter and gained intelligence.

One of the zombie leaders encountered our little friend Chu here and gave a heads-up of an impending attack." Commander Shen started talking and when he talked about the threat issued by the zombie leader, he pointed to Chu Miao who had been silently observing everything from the side.

The few leaders finally noticed the young teenage girl who was sitting in the only vacant chair in the room.

The security room was small and very simply furnished. It had a table and a chair behind it placed on one side.

There were two large windows fitted with grill and bullet-proof glass. This allowed for a wider view of the surroundings while protecting the people inside in case of an attack.

There were two more chairs on the other side of the table where guests could sit and at that moment, Commander Shen was sitting in one of the chairs while the older gentleman he was talking to sat on the second one.

The others stood to one side and listened attentively to what the Commander had to say.

At the end of the room, a small bunk bed was placed there, probably for the soldiers on duty to rest when necessary.

There was a small bedside table in one corner of the room with a few bowls placed on it and a five-liter bottle of water.

However, at that moment, there was barely enough water to fill a cup in the bottle and one could tell that the soldiers on duty didn’t dare to touch it judging by their dry, cracked lips.

The bowls were also clean and dry, showing how they had probably not been used for a while.

Chu Miao sighed at the sight and as everyone turned to look at her after Commander Shen’s unexpected introduction, and walked over to the small table.

"Who is she?" The older leader talking to Commander Shen asked curiously.

"General Chu’s granddaughter." Commander Shen replied with pride and a smug expression that seemed to suggest he was very proud of Chu Miao, which confused everyone since she wasn’t his granddaughter.

"Why are you so smug? She is someone else’s granddaughter." Captain Huo, the older gentleman talking to Commander Shen asked in confusion.

"What do you know? Even if we are not biologically related, she agreed to call me Grandpa Shen. Doesn’t that make me her grandfather too?" Commander Shen’s logic was a bit off, but some leaders such as Captain Huo knew about the tragedy of his family so, he decided to let the old man bask in his delusions.

"What is she doing?" Another leader standing at the side asked seeing Chu Miao pick up the water bottle and open the cap.

"Filling the bottle." It was a short sentence but it made everyone else in that room hold their breath.

It wasn’t because of anything else but shock and excitement.

Usually, water superpower users had to be coaxed and bribed to agree to fill water for anyone, especially if it wasn’t a leader in a high position.

However, here Chu Miao was volunteering without anyone asking to fill the almost empty water bottle for people she didn’t know.

That was a kindness long forgotten since the start of the apocalypse.

"Are you serious? We don’t have anything to pay her back with." Captain Huo decided to be upfront about their lack of resources from the start before the bottle was filled because he didn’t want to engage in conflict with the granddaughter of a general he highly respected.

What’s more, Commander Shen, who seemed to care a lot about the girl, was there as well.

"She is different from the others. She won’t ask for anything. In fact, she is the reason we are here today.

The zombie leader I just told you about was noticed by her. We are here to recruit people to help build watch towers in the base to help us notice any movement by the zombies while they were still a distance away to help us prepare.

We also want to find a couple of suitable spots to place water tanks for the soldiers and their families to use.

There is also some medicine to help heal the sick and improve the body’s condition.

All of these are provided by her. So, be sure not to offend her." Commander Shen talked as if he was campaigning for a position in leadership for Chu Miao.

However, what he said seriously shocked the people in that security room, except for Chu Miao who wasn’t paying attention.

Her only task was to provide the water and medicine. All the talking and whatever were left to the old man to handle.

She quickly filled the water bottle and replaced the cap before taking out another twenty-liter jerrican filled with water mixed with spiritual spring water and placed it on the floor at the side of the small table.

This way, the soldiers guarding at the security room would have enough water to drink for a while.

Moreover, since it was mixed with spiritual spring water, it could also improve their health and heal any hidden injuries in the process.

"What you said about zombies attacking, do we know how they are going to attack and when?" Another leader asked, at the same time changing the topic from Chu Miao to a more serious issue.

"Let Little Miao tell you." Commander Shen said before calling Chu Miao over.

Chu Miao walked back to the chair behind the desk and in as many details as she could, explained the changes observed in zombies, including their increase in strength, intelligence, and ability to strategize.
