Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 116: Bank
Chapter 116: Bank
As they gazed at the vast expanse of water, it felt as though the city had become a boundless ocean, with some buildings rising like silent guardians above the surface, especially in the low-lying areas that were now submerged, creating an eerie and desolate atmosphere.
They sighed as they looked at the devastation caused by the typhoon; the city they once knew was now unrecognizable.
Ethan was busy accessing the offline map and checking the landmarks, using them as clues to navigate their unfamiliar surroundings. With the fog obscuring their view, it further complicated their situation.
Whereas, Oslo carefully maneuvered the motorboat according to Ethan’s directions, wary of the debris lurking just beneath the water’s surface
"Isn’t that the tall tree near the supermarket? It’s completely underwater, with only a few branches sticking out above the surface," Elena said.
"If that’s the tree, then we’re heading in the right direction," Ethan replied.
The journey to the city bank was not easy; they had to navigate through a maze of flooded streets and avoid obstacles swept away by the strong current, which also made it difficult to control the boat.
Despite these challenges, they managed to arrive safely.
After three hours, they finally spotted the bank. The city center was situated on higher terrain, so the tall building was not completely submerged.
They quickly made their way to the bank and saw that the fourth floor was flooded, but the rest of the building remained accessible. With 28 floors in total, they believed the items would be stored on the upper levels.
They entered the bank through the window on the fifth floor, leaving Oslo to look for a secluded area to store their motorboat in the space.
After securing it, Elena then summoned him to their location.
Inside, they noticed that the bank was fully secured, and they believed it hadn’t been raided yet, as the doors were tightly closed.
Thanks to their high-quality construction, the doors could withstand explosives, making them sturdy and resistant to damage.
Those who wanted to take advantage of this disaster and rob the bank might find it difficult to gain access to the floor inside.
Fortunately, with space as their cheat, they simply stored the door, allowing for easy entry.
"Let’s split into two groups, alternating our way up the floors. Once we reach the 10th floor, let’s stop for a while and check what we’ve found," Ethan suggested to maximise their time.
"Sure, we’ll enter the 5th floor first," Oslo agreed, teaming up with Lydia, who was now trying to use her [Inventory] to store the locked door.
Entering, Oslo and Lydia quickly checked the room, which was filled with papers scattered across the desk.
One by one, they opened the drawers, clearing the room of supplies. To their surprise, they found a large quantity of tea tucked away in the drawers.
There wasn’t much to see on this floor—just a collection of financial documents. Still, they took every supply they found, believing it would be a waste to leave them submerged in water.
Whereas the floor that Elena and Ethan entered was similar to theirs, it was also littered with papers scattered around, likely due to the panic caused by the earthquake as people hurriedly left.
Elena took the unused stock of papers and pens from the storage compartment and stored them along the room tables and chairs in the space before moving above.
Upon entering the next floor, she noticed a client consultation room filled with packed snacks, likely intended to entertain clients. There were also numerous high-quality teas and coffees on the shelves.
Everyone was busy collecting supplies, and it was quite exciting to hoard freely.
As they made their way to the tenth floor, they finally discovered the break room, a small kitchenette for employees, and the inventory room.
Additionally, a vending machine was stocked with quick snacks, including chips, chocolates, packaged cookies, and sodas.
While Oslo and Lydia emptied the vending machine, Elena checked the inventory room.
The room was stocked with administrative supplies, including stacks of transaction papers, pens, highlighters, folders, and binders. It also contained clipboards, staplers, tape, sticky notes, and a printer for reports.
’Perhaps I could use this supply for Little Mia’s studies.’
In the other room, snack supplies were neatly arranged on the shelves, including nuts, energy bars, chocolates, and chips—mostly intended for employees as ready-to-eat snacks.
Elena took them all, leaving none behind; after all, once they were submerged in water, they would be useless.
"The floors we saw were mostly used for the administrative section."
"There was a lot of tea and coffee, along with snacks like chocolates and chips."
Everyone reported what they had found and rested for a bit.
"Let’s eat a meal first," Elena suggested, feeling hungry after walking for a while.
They nodded in agreement, and with a wave of her hand, Elena retrieved some ready-to-eat sandwiches and other food options.
Ethan opted for a bowl of spicy ramen, while Elena craved the salty, comforting taste of classic chicken noodle soup.
Lydia was about to remind Elena to eat moderately, but seeing her devour the food as if she were starving, she decided to hold back.
She would address it later. Lydia had noticed that Elena had been eating a lot lately, and a twinge of concern crept in regarding her situation.
Meanwhile, Ethan was pleased to see his wife enjoying her meal and handed her a bottle of water to help. Their lovey-dovey was seen by Oslo and Lydia, who exchanged eye rolls in response.
Afterwards, they continued to check the floor above, stumbling upon the executive room, where various kinds of expensive snacks and some wine were located.
"They even have this expensive wine. Tsk, sipping wine while working—they’re too blessed," Ethan said with disdain. As a police officer, he was disciplined and followed the rules, including abstaining from alcohol during work hours.
Elena raised her brows slightly. This type of setup was typical for executive officers, especially when they had a client they wanted to impress.
She did not reply but quickly stored the items in the space.
Elena wasn’t done yet as she checked the other areas to see if there was any hidden storage. Some wealthy individuals tend to store their valuable possessions at their place of work.
It was Ethan who noticed a strange painting that seemed out of place in the room’s minimalist design.
He quickly took it out and found a safe deposit box with a locked password. He then stored the lock in his [Inventory], gaining easy access.
Inside the safe deposit box, a large amount of cash was accompanied by some jewelry. There were also a few jade pieces, but they were quite limited.
"Is this a pink diamond? It’s so beautiful," Elena said as she picked it up, trying to determine whether the diamond was genuine.
"Probably. Do you want me to turn it into something new that you can wear?" Ethan replied, admiring his wife’s adorable expression.
"Thanks, husband, but this kind of accessory is useless in an apocalypse. I want to use it for the Golden Tablet to see if it contains spiritual energy."
"But you like it! Just keep it for yourself. We can find more later," Ethan suggested, trying to convince his wife to take the pink diamond to herself.
"You sure know how to sweet-talk," Elena replied, chuckling at her husband’s constant care. She then kissed his cheek.
Ethan smiled like a fool, delighted that his wife was so easy to please. "Wife, just store it. Maybe I can create a new set of wedding rings for both of us later." He then leaned in and kissed her softly.
Elena nodded and continued to gather everything she could find, including chairs, tables, and a desk, believing they would be useful later.
Afterwards, they moved to the next floor and eventually arrived at the technical support room. Many devices were still operating, including the CCTV on the 15th floor and above.
Ethan believed this floor was used for securing important files and items.
"This floor might be the location of the vault. Let’s turn off the CCTV first," Ethan informed them.
He attempted to turn off the computer, but it required a password. Even if he managed to turn it off, the CCTV would still function independently, with its offline storage for data.
He then expressed his concern, stating that it was better to leave no evidence of their heist.
"I’ll store the CCTV in the Paradise; just save the location of the CCTV," Elena suggested, as she had the ability to store items without physical contact.
They quickly went upstairs. With a wave of her hand, Elena stored the CCTV close to the vault door. Afterwards, they stood in front of the vault, ready to take the study door into the space.
’This door is useful, especially during gunfire.’
When they entered, they were stunned by the piles of money stacked like towers.
"I’m gonna be rich!" Lydia exclaimed excitedly, her eyes gleaming at the sight of the cash.
Oslo chuckled and said, "This money is useless. Let’s not waste our time and open each of the safe deposit boxes; we might find more useful items."
Lydia glared at him but began to open the boxes one by one. After a few minutes, only a few safe deposit boxes remained unopened.
This bank was clearly rich, as the items inside screamed billions in potential sales. Numerous gold bars, diamonds, and jade were neatly processed, all ready to cater to affluent clients.
Just as she was about to close the last safe deposit box, she noticed an unprocessed diamond that seemed to draw her in.
It felt as if the diamond was beckoning her to touch it. Curiosity piqued, she almost reached out but quickly snapped out of it.
"Elena, look at this diamond; it seems strange," Lydia said, sharing her experience.
Elena, upon hearing this, was taken aback. "How did this one end up here?"
