Chapter 153: Injured

Meanwhile, the confrontation continued as both men gauged each other.

"Let me leave, or we all die together," the leader said seriously, though it was clear he was merely acting.

Ethan looked at him with disdain, recognizing the hollow bravado behind his threats.

"Go ahead; no one is stopping you," he replied, his voice steady and unyielding.

Unfazed by the confrontation, Ethan was well-versed in psychological warfare, skillfully detecting the leader’s underlying fear masked by his desperate façade.

As he watched his enemy’s anxious and panicked state, he realized that the leader was just bluffing to protect himself.

"Do you think I won’t do it?" the leader shot back, but inside, he was nervous.

His strong will to survive was the only thing that pushed him to act.

’That shameless old woman lied; the residents above were far more dangerous.’

Positioned at the back, he had an easy escape route if the opportunity arose. However, the mist made it difficult for him to move freely, hindering his ability to escape.

"Cough... Let me leave now, and I won’t ever come back."

Ethan stopped listening; instead, he focused intently on the leader, poised to strike.

Just as he was about to aim his gun, he noticed an old woman enter the floor. There seemed to be something wrong with her.

He paused, then glanced at her, his attention now drawn to the item the old woman was carrying.

The old woman had been listening from the lower floor, aware that the leader had been defeated and was now confronting the residents above, negotiating for his release.

Anger coursed through her veins; she had believed that with their help, she could avenge her daughter, but she was wrong.

They were nothing but clowns, foolish and incompetent.

Realizing she couldn’t inflict torture on the residents above, she decided to go upstairs and take matters into her own hands.

Taking them with her—straight to hell.

As she entered the floor, her eyes burned from the smoke, and she coughed painfully.

Yet, fueled by rage, she shouted, "You killed my daughter, and now you will pay for it! Let’s die together!"

Her voice echoed through the floor, a fierce declaration of her intent.

Ethan and the others were bewildered by what she was saying, but after a few seconds, they finally realized what she meant.

Everyone looked at her with disdain.

They believed her daughter had provoked them first, and they were not the ones responsible for her death; it was the previous robbers who had killed her because of her stupidity.

Upon seeing the old woman, the leader exclaimed, searching for a way to escape.

But when he saw her carrying explosives, he almost jumped out of his skin.

"What are you doing?" he asked, looking at the old woman who seemed ready to kill everyone.

The old woman laughed maniacally and took the safety pin off the grenade.

She then looked at the leader and sneered.

"Hahahaha! Let’s die together. You act like a master, but deep inside, you’re nothing more than a scaredy-cat."

"Shut up and toss the grenade out onto the window now," the leader demanded, too afraid to die.

"Why should I?" the old woman retorted angrily, then let go of the grenade.

Ethan quickly instructed everyone to take cover behind the sturdy metal crates taken from their [Inventory].

For it was already too late to take action and store the grenade in his [Inventory].

"Hide! A grenade about to explode!" He shouted while retrieving sturdy materials from his [Inventory] to reinforce the sturdy metal crates.

Everyone lay down and hid carefully on the sturdy metal.

They followed Ethan and retrieved anything that might be used against the blast.

Seeing the items appear out of nowhere, the old woman and the leader were taken aback.

"Monster.."

"What are you?"

But before they could think further, the grenade exploded, injuring them seriously.

Boom!

A loud blast echoed through the corridor, shaking the walls and shattering nearby windows.

Pieces of metal flew through the hallway, striking walls, doors, and everything in their path.

Dust and smoke filled the air, mingling with the acrid smell of burning as a heavy silence descended around them.

Luckily, the grenade used was substandard, which slightly reduced its impact.

Even so, it caused injuries and damage, proving that even a faulty grenade is still dangerously unpredictable.

Ethan was the first to move and check on the others.

He didn’t notice the multiple cuts on his arms and legs from the explosion; he was too focused on helping others to pay attention to his injuries.

"Xander, Ramon, Oslo, are you okay?" he shouted, his voice strained.

"I’m fine, chief, but Ramon was hit in the stomach! He needs surgery!" Oslo replied, his eyes wide with concern as he glanced at Ramon, who lay unconscious on the floor.

"Stay with him, Oslo!" Ethan instructed, grabbing a bottle of well water and a first aid kit, ready to perform basic medical care.

Oslo nodded and quickly assisted Ethan, ignoring the sharp debris digging into his legs.

"Oslo, call Aunt Liza while I perform some basic medical care!" Ethan commanded, trying to keep his voice steady as he attended to Ramon, unaware that Oslo was suffering from a leg injury that made walking difficult.

With no Paradise to help them, it would be challenging, so they just hoped Aunt Liza would find a way.

Seeing Oslo in a difficult state, Xander quickly stood up, wincing as he moved his left shoulder.

"I’ll do it! Just stay and assist the chief."

He quickly ran, trying to inform the others, but before he could do so, everyone had already opened their doors to check on them.

They heard the explosion, which made them uneasy.

When they arrived at the scene and saw the bloody aftermath, panic set in, especially for Andrei, who spotted his dad in terrible condition.

Xander, who was about to call Aunt Liza, instructed the others to do it on his behalf. He was also injured, which made it difficult for him to go upstairs.

"Andrei, wake up! Stop standing there and go call Aunt Liza!" he urged, his voice filled with urgency.

Andrei snapped out of his stupor and dashed to notify Aunt Liza.

Aunt Liza, currently on the 30th floor, was making her way downstairs when she spotted Andrei running, clearly panicked and anxious.

Concerned that he might not notice her in his frantic state, she quickly stopped him.

"What happened? Where are the others?"

"I’ll tell you the details later, Aunt. In short, a grenade exploded. My father is unconscious and needs help," Andrei informed her, trying to comfort his mom, who was also following Aunt Liza.

Hearing this, Jessa turned pale.

She quickly went downstairs and saw her husband in a bloody situation.
