Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 91: Home
Chapter 91: Home
The crowd was dumbfounded by their attitudes, sensing that they were unapproachable.
As they walked up the stairs, the manager glared at them menacingly. Elena felt his gaze but chose to ignore it.
’Let him be. He’ll only bring trouble upon himself if he tries to scheme against us.’
They quickly climbed the stairs toward the 26th floor. Uncle Anthony closely assisted his parents, while Ethan helped his Grandpa Caldwell.
"This staircase seems endless," Grandpa Caldwell said, panting a little after climbing nearly to their destination. "And with the elevator unavailable, it will be difficult for us older folks to climb and descend this staircase."
"Don’t worry, Grandpa. As long as you drink the well water each day, who knows? You might become as capable as the young ones," Elena replied.
She thought that, in addition to the well water that enhances the body, the abilities, once awakened, would surely boost them, making climbing these stairs not too difficult. However, she felt that awakening those abilities was still a distant prospect.
"Granddaughter, I’ve noticed that my bones are getting stronger. I can now walk without my cane for a few minutes! This is a miracle, considering I have a prior leg injury. I feel my strength returning as if I’m getting younger every day. Hehehe," Grandpa Caldwell said joyfully.
Though he missed his wife and wished to be with her, the thought of having more years to see the day when his grandson would have many children significantly boosted his determination.
’I have to drink well water every day, then.’
"Yes, the well water can enhance strength and immunity, so you must always drink it, Grandpa, along with Mr. Ford and Mrs. Ford," Elena said.
"We will. Please call me Grandpa Ford; it feels too formal to say Mr. Ford all the time, especially since we’re almost the same age as your Grandpa Caldwell," Grandpa Ford suggested.
"I’ll listen to you, Grandpa Ford," Elena acknowledged.
They walked up the stairs, chatting blissfully amidst the heavy rain and the fierce howling of the wind outside. Along the way, they saw people securing their patios and locking their windows; everyone was busy doing their own stuff.
Finally, they arrived at the 26th floor, panting as they looked at the heavy steel bar gate blocking their way. There, they found Xander, his sister, and his younger brother excitedly waiting for them. The siblings immediately greeted them and opened the gate to let them in.
"Why didn’t you tell me you had arrived? I could have gone down to assist," Xander said.
"No need for that; we can handle it. Plus, Oslo is with us," Ethan replied.
Xander felt guilty for not being able to help them in City B. After all, Ethan had asked him to stay behind to defend and finish everything that needed to be done here in Camel Tower.
"Okay, Chief," Xander said, then introduced his siblings. "By the way, this is my sister Angela and my younger brother Koby."
Elena noticed a 12-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy looking at them shyly.
’They are so cute’.
"Hello! Are you getting used to living in this apartment?" Elena asked.
"Hi, sister. Yes, thank you for letting us stay here," Angela replied.
"No problem! Always listen to your brother, okay?" Elena said with a smile.
"I will, sister. Brother Xander is always good to us, so we must always listen to him," Koby said with heroic poise, expressing his love for Xander, who had taken on the role of both father and mother after their parents died when he was very young.
Seeing his younger brother, Xander couldn’t help but smile. All he wanted was for them to be happy and free from worries, but the impending natural disaster threatened to shatter that peace. He vowed to do everything in his power to keep them safe.
In her past life, Elena did not know what happened to Xander. According to her husband, Xander had gone to City O to find his sister and younger brother. However, a natural disaster struck, severing all connections and leaving their fates unknown.
Oslo, on the other hand, had followed Ethan—and thankfully, he did—because he was the reason they survived when her uncle William hired thugs to rob them, helping them fight off the attackers. Unfortunately, Oslo died early during a flood rescue mission.
Ethan had left with no friends or subordinates who could stay with him through thick and thin. But now, that had changed. Xander had brought his younger brother and sister here, and Oslo, having retired from the police, had no obligations to anyone.
’Well, I hope their fate changes now,’ Elena thought.
After their brief conversation, they began discussing who would stay on each floor.
"So, what’s our setup here? Who will stay on each floor?" Grandpa Caldwell asked.
"Actually, Grandpa Caldwell, I’m currently staying on the 28th floor, unit 2801, with my sister and brother. Assistant Ramon is in unit 2802 with his family. He was wants to come with me, but I urged him to stay since his foot is not yet healed," Xander explained.
"Oh, how is Ramon?" Ethan asked.
"He’s doing well; his wife is taking good care of him," Xander replied.
"Then we will visit him later," Ethan said.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Chief, I’m currently on the 27th floor, while the 26th floor is vacant," Oslo added.
"Let’s go to my unit first and discuss it inside," Ethan suggested.
They immediately went to the 30th floor and entered unit 3001. Elena noticed that the room was fully furnished with all the basic amenities for family use.
According to Xander, each floor consisted of two identical units equipped with essential home features, including a small kitchen, a bathroom, and furniture for comfortable living.
Afterward, they sat down in the living room to continue their discussion.
"Then, let Grandpa Ford stay on the 29th floor along with Uncle Anthony and Aunt Liza," Elena suggested.
"Okay, let’s do that," Ethan agreed.
"For Grandpa Caldwell, you can stay with us," Ethan added.
Grandpa Caldwell declined; he didn’t want to interrupt the newlywed couple.
"Let me stay in the next unit with Butler Aki; you don’t have to worry about me," he said.
Elena didn’t press him any further. They then talked about the renovations they had done.
"We have installed waterproofing systems to prevent water damage from the heavy rain, then enhanced insulation to maintain temperature stability during extreme weather, and reflective walls to reduce heat absorption. Additionally, we implemented pest-proofing measures to protect against infestations," Xander reported.
He also installed CCTV on each floor and an electric steel bar gate. After all, security is a must.
Hearing the report, everyone felt at ease. They now had shelter prepared for the upcoming natural disaster.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work. I think this is enough for now. I know everyone is tired, so let’s meet for dinner later and rest in the meantime," Elena said, appreciating their efforts.
Everyone agreed and left the 30th floor.
Elena then opened the curtain to assess the situation outside. The water was rising rapidly, and she guessed that in a few hours, it would flood the lobby.
’When will the government announce the typhoon?’
In her past life, it was not a low-pressure area but a super typhoon, prompting people to prepare by stocking up on essentials. Now, however, they believed this rain would pass and did not bother to stock up on food.
Seeing his wife lost in thought as she gazed at the storm outside, he quickly hugged her and said, "Wife, what are you thinking?"
"Nothing, just that this typhoon arrived earlier than in my dream."
"Don’t be afraid. We’ll face this together. Plus, we’re prepared. If things get worse, we can always escape to Paradise."
"Okay, husband. By the way, did the government send any warnings regarding this typhoon? Oslo mentioned earlier that it was just a low-pressure area, which we both know it isn’t."
"Not yet. Maybe they are planning something now."
Elena agreed; perhaps the government hadn’t realized the severity of the situation, but the military might have clues, considering that this kind of heavy rain and strong wind are not typical characteristics of low-pressure areas but rather of a typhoon.
"Let’s rest for a while."
Elena then retrieved the bedding and quilt, and soon they were peacefully asleep, hugging each other.

Meanwhile, in the military district of City A, the personnel monitoring the low-pressure area via satellite were shocked to see it transform into a super typhoon in just a few minutes. This unusual development was unprecedented in his career.
He immediately notified his superiors about the situation, prompting them to take action.
"Contact the government and tell them what we saw on the satellite," the supervisor said.
"Yes, sir."
"Is the signal back now?"
"The signal returned just a few minutes ago, sir."
"Go ahead and announce an emergency warning. This typhoon will likely cause havoc. Citizens must know so they can prepare."
"Noted, sir."
The military personnel were now busy with their tasks and preparing their gear for rescue operations. Unbeknownst to them, this was just the beginning of the storm disaster.
