Chapter 143: Crushing Again. The Arrogant Subordinates!

“Boss, the goods are here!”

Inside the Longshan Tunnel, six individuals arrived with the items, their faces beaming with smiles.

“Excellent, hand over the disguise mask materials to me,” Wang Yun responded with a smile, then added, “Also, let’s cook all this hotpot.”

“Hahaha, the boss is invincible. Come on, brothers, it’s hotpot time,” Brother Hu, with a gleam in his eyes, roared with excitement.

“Yeehaw, time for hotpot, hahaha.”

Came the eccentric cries, as excitement spread across the faces of all the subordinates.

“Don’t celebrate too early. If you just consume the hotpot without caution, you might end up dead without even knowing how,” Wang Yun cautioned them with a laugh.

“Huh?”

“Boss, what do you mean? Did they tamper with the hotpot?” Brother Hu, alarmed by Wang Yun’s implication, asked.

“I’m not certain, but there’s a 90% chance,” Wang Yun speculated, his eyes narrowing slightly. He had no intention of eating the hotpot himself, but his subordinates were a different story.

Given the program inspection teams might poison the food, it likely wouldn’t be a fast-acting lethal poison. Even in the case of poisoning, an antidote would surely exist, especially since the program inspection Captains might worry about Wang Yun having the hostages test the food first.

Therefore, while Wang Yun must abstain, his subordinates were free to eat. Should the worst happen, they could simply demand the antidote.

“No way, boss. If they really did that, we’d just kill a bunch of hostages to send them a message,” Brother Hu suggested fiercely after hearing the plan, his eyes flashing dangerously.

The rest of the subordinates coldly nodded in agreement.

“Hehe, no worries, I’ll inspect all the ingredients.”

Wang Yun chuckled and approached the hot pot ingredients, scrutinizing them meticulously. The water, unopened and pure, posed no issue. The hot pot seasoning, however, could be problematic. Wang Yun closely examined and sniffed it.

“Hand me a lighter and fetch some clothes,” he signaled to Brother Hu and the others.

Brother Hu nodded and quickly handed over a lighter. Another subordinate hurried to the back and grabbed a hostage’s clothing.

Wang Yun ignited the clothing, then placed the hot pot ingredients on it to burn. After observing for a while without detecting anything amiss, he moved on to examine the ingredients for the mushroom soup.

Examine, sniff, burn, sniff again.

Wang Yun inspected, then burned the ingredients collectively. Subsequently, he took out each ingredient for another thorough check.

“Don’t consume the mushroom soup ingredients, beef, lamb, and these vegetables,” Wang Yun advised them. “Everything else is safe to eat.”

After half an hour of inspection, Wang Yun issued his instructions.

Without sophisticated equipment at his disposal, he had to rely on visual inspection. Burning the items was crucial for testing. Moreover, Wang Yun separated the ingredients he couldn’t confidently declare safe. He allowed them to consume only what he verified as harmless.

“Send twenty people to have the hotpot at the entrance of the tunnel,” Wang Yun further directed.

“Alright, boss, haha, I’m in, anyone else coming?”

“Let’s do it, together. Haha, who’s afraid? Eating hot pot in front of hundreds of program inspectors, how stylish is that?”

“Hey, let’s eat there and make them watch us. They wouldn’t dare arrest us, haha, awesome!”

Immediately, numerous subordinates enthusiastically agreed.

“Go ahead, and the rest of you can eat here. Also, leave ten people on guard,” Wang Yun said with a smile.

“Come on, let’s see what tools we can find in the vehicles at the back.”

“Let’s go outside to eat!”

The subordinates were visibly excited, carrying the hot pot ingredients and boldly heading toward the outside of the tunnel.

Wang Yun observed them, a slight smile curving his lips. Holding the disguise mask materials, he began crafting several masks.

“Report, Captain, someone’s coming out. Should we shoot?”

Meanwhile, outside, when the program inspection teams’ snipers noticed a large group walking out, they immediately reported, their focus intensifying.

“Wait!” the Captains of the program inspection teams said, casting their gaze over.

“Hmm?”

They were momentarily taken aback upon seeing twenty people walk out with cooking utensils in hand.

Following that, their astonishment grew as they watched these twenty individuals set up small tables, light gas bottles, and begin preparing hot pot.

“Is Wang Yun challenging us? Interesting, truly interesting,” Captain Coniso from the United States noted, his eyes narrowing slightly but showing no sign of anger.

Instead, a trace of amusement appeared on his face.

“Such extreme arrogance, but we’re not afraid of their bluster, we’re just afraid they won’t dare to eat,” remarked the blonde, middle-aged Captain from West Country coldly.

The other Captains of the program inspection teams watched with a composed demeanor. They weren’t overly confident about the poisoning strategy, but it wasn’t deemed completely futile either. It all came down to chance.

Wang Yun’s twenty-odd subordinates, boldly and unabashedly cooking hot pot right before their eyes, was a blatant provocation. Yet, it also presented an opportunity.

***

“If Wang Yun and his team consume the hot pot, then we will have achieved our goal.”

“Such audacity, unprecedented. Who has ever seen criminals taunting the police by openly enjoying hot pot? Utterly brazen!”

“True, their current arrogance won’t last long. We’re not concerned about their brazenness; we’re just hoping they’ll eat the hot pot.”

“If they end up poisoned from the hot pot, the program inspection teams will have the chance to eliminate Wang Yun and his group.”

“I wonder if Wang Yun has partaken in the hot pot. If so, today could genuinely mark the opportunity to capture and neutralize him.”

In the live streams of the program inspection teams, viewers worldwide were actively discussing. The sheer boldness of Wang Yun and his subordinates left them astonished.

Before long, at the entrance to tunnel, the savory aroma of hot pot filled the air. Five or six pots boiled, spreading the delicious scent far and wide. Twenty individuals gathered around tables, diving into the feast.

“Wow, this tastes great.”

“This tripe is fantastic. Yeah, really good!”

“Shame there’s no alcohol. We should’ve asked the boss to get us some earlier!”

“Enough talk, let’s toast with tea instead of wine to thank the Captains and elite members of the inspection teams nearby!”

The twenty people then lifted their tea cups toward the adjacent area, shouting loudly, as though worried they wouldn’t be heard. Ultimately, they even stood up and gestured toward the program inspection teams in front of them.

The Captains of the program inspection teams looked on with cold expressions. Faced with such arrogant criminals, they found themselves utterly powerless, feeling a mix of frustration and helplessness.

“Once the drug takes effect, we’ll finish them off!” Captain Everick from the United States glared at them, his voice filled with murderous intent. Never before had he, an international elite, experienced such humiliation, especially not so publicly.

“Something’s not right. They avoided the mushroom soup hot pots entirely, only ate spicy hot pots. Moreover, they avoided lamb, beef, and certain vegetables,” Captain Coniso observed the group eating hot pot, his expression grim. He took out a pair of binoculars for a closer look, his face turning even grimmer.

“What’s happened?”

The surrounding Captains of the program inspection teams from various countries asked in astonishment.

“They haven’t touched any of the poisoned ingredients.”

Before Captain Coniso could respond, the blonde, middle-aged Captain from West Country chimed in with a dark expression. Shock was evident on his face.

Why had none of the poisoned ingredients been consumed? Could they have been discovered? But how could that be possible?

“How did Wang Yun identify them? The virus from my biological weapon is colorless and odorless, impossible to detect,” Captain Coniso’s face contorted, his voice filled with disbelief.

Their expressions turned exceedingly awkward. Around them, the Captains of the program inspection teams absorbed their words, their faces turning into a collection of question marks.

Had their plan failed?
