Chapter 33: 33 part

Tom began copying Dark Tom’s attacks and using his techniques against him. As the battle progressed, Tom learned from Dark Tom and discovered different ways to use his abilities.

Tom combined his "Quick Slash" and "Dark Slash" abilities to send 20 consecutive attacks at Dark Tom. The combination of these two abilities slightly reduced the power of the attacks, but also greatly reduced the opponent’s chances of dodging, allowing for many more attacks.

The longer Tom fought, the more he learned and mastered Dark Tom. But he noticed something: Dark Tom was also becoming more and more powerful.

In the process, Tom began to understand the cause of certain events. The beginning of it all was related to that first moment when the system was switched on and he encountered it in the classroom. That day, he had thought of dying without fighting back, but he felt something awakening inside him. It was a feeling of madness that he could not make sense of at that moment. The incident in which he killed his classmate was a turning point when he felt he was no longer in control. But that madness allowed him to still maintain control in the first test of the system.

When Dark Tom said, "I’m being suppressed," it meant that he was being suppressed by an entity. Tom thought it might have something to do with the system, but why would the system do such a favor? The fact that Dark Tom had possessed him earlier and Tom found himself in the middle of a horde of monsters implied that the seal was weakening and the entity was about to be released.

As the battle progressed, two beings sweated and exhausted in the arena. Both were covered in cuts.

"Give up, Tom. You can’t win! I am more perfect and unlike you, I have a reason to live," said Dark Tom. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Tom looked at him in surprise. "A reason? A reason to exist?" He asked curiously. What did Dark Tom mean?

"I want to fight. Fighting new opponents is my reason for living. Unlike you, I am not a hollow being," Dark Tom said and smiled.

Tom did not give up and kept fighting. But somewhere along the way he started to think: What was his purpose in life? The battle lasted for 30 minutes. Tom had to retreat against Dark Tom. He was getting tired, slowed down and exhausted by the blows. Dark Tom, looking at him like an arrogant tyrant, delivered another blow.

"I told you I was better, Tom. Now tell me how you feel," Dark Tom said, as if he wanted to hear Tom’s last words before he killed him.

Just then Tom opened his mouth and spoke decisively:

"I want power."

Dark Tom was surprised. "What did you say?" he asked.

Tom continued confidently:

"From the very beginning, the world was black and white for me. I wanted no wealth, no respect, no love, nothing. I waited for time to pass and death to come. But thank you for waking up in that classroom. Every time I fought with weapons, I came close to death. But at the same time, as I struggled to survive, I began to regain my senses. Now I realize that I am nothing more than a speck of dust in an infinite cosmos."

Dark Tom listened in amazement. Having watched Tom for years, he could grasp the meaning of these words. Tom continued:

"Facing death at every turn began to seem like fun to me. But now I know what my true purpose in life is. I want to be selfish. I want to be the strongest. I want every being in the cosmos to tremble when they hear my name."

Dark Tom felt a deep threat. He increased his time bending power to 300%, but even that was not enough. Tom was suddenly in front of him and he slashed Dark Tom with his sword. Dark Tom screamed in pain.

"How could you get so strong!" he shouted. But Tom had increased his speed eightfold and had learned to speed up time.

With one final attack, Tom overpowered Dark Tom. Dark Tom’s head separated from his body. Tom called his attack the "Void Attack". He knew that this was just the beginning; he would only get stronger with time.

Tom felt that he understood Dark Tom before he returned to the real world. In fact, if his soul did not have an alter ego, he was destined to be a very powerful being in the universe. But because he had an alter ego, he was doomed to be suppressed and diminished. He had not been given a chance from the very beginning. It was a very bad and unlucky fate. He could feel that Dark Tom was still a presence inside him, only more repressed. He had not disappeared, he was there.

Meanwhile, outside, Jac and the soldiers were looking at Tom’s body. Thinking that Tom was definitely dead, Jac was about to leave when he saw the red barrier on Tom dissipate. Tom’s life force was getting stronger. This meant he had passed the test. Jac couldn’t believe what he was seeing and his mouth opened almost touching the floor. A D-level being had passed a test required to become an S-level being. Even though the difficulty of the test had been reduced, it still seemed impossible.

If Tom had known the difficulty of the test he was taking, he might have fainted from surprise. After all, the test asked him to fight a being with abilities on his level and even more powerful than he was. In this case he had to fail; it was almost impossible to win. If Tom had failed to become enlightened, he would most likely have lost.

Under the gaze of the soldiers and Jac, Tom’s body continued to grow stronger, his wounds healed and his body seemed to be destroyed and recreated again and again.
