Awakening of the Adrenaline Monster-Chapter 36 part
Tom thought he was ready enough. For more than a week he had been traveling through the forest and studying the monsters. These were the monsters he studied:
Forest Turtle (D+):
A species especially focused on defense. They are quite large, with a shell that is a mixture of green and dark green. Their defensive abilities are considered top-notch among D+ level monsters. They use wind blades to attack their opponents. They are usually about 20 meters in size.
Mountain Lion (D+):
With brown fur and a height of up to 6 meters, it is equally balanced in strength, speed and defense. It uses its claws and teeth as a method of attack.
Black Cat (D+):
A monster focused entirely on speed. Its strength and defense abilities are weak. Beware, underestimate it and you won’t know how you died.
These were Tom’s conclusions based on observing the monsters’ battles. The Forest Turtle had very high defensive abilities. Tom thought that if he fought it, it would be quite difficult to kill it. In fact, even if he did kill it, he risked dying with his energy depleted as it would attract other monsters from the surrounding area.
The Mountain Lion was a much more tempting target. But as a wise man once said: "A master of everything is a master of nothing." That may have been true, but this beast was a realm and a rank above Tom. It was too dangerous for Tom and did not have any weaknesses that could be exploited by someone with his low statistics.
The Black Cat was the perfect target for Tom. Tom’s Time Dao, Slow Motion Force ability and Beast Gaze ability were the worst enemies for a human or a monster focused on speed. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
After thinking about all this, Tom set off. An hour later he came to a very quiet area. This was the territory of the Black Cat monster. Other monsters did not enter this area. As Tom walked on, he came to a clearing in the middle of the forest. He saw a black monster lying on the ground. It was about 2 meters long and had jet black fur.
Tom walked in front of the monster and put his hand on its katana. When the monster saw this, it lunged towards Tom. Tom immediately activated his ability to slow time and gravity at the same time. The monster’s speed dropped by more than half, but it was still very fast. It opened cuts on Tom’s body. Tom responded by swinging his katana. He combined hisCombined Attack and Dark Strike abilities to attack. He managed to occasionally injure the monster, but it was not enough against the attacks it was receiving.
He tried to confuse the beast with hisDemon Steps ability to prevent it from anticipating his moves, but it was ineffective against the absolute speed. Tom thought about what to do. The monster was overpowering him now. He had a chance to defeat it at the end of the day, but it would exhaust it and take time. Then Tom would be at the mercy of the other monsters and he was sure they would show no mercy.
Then Tom had an idea. He closed his eyes and focused. Just then he felt a strong intent from his right side. He immediately stepped back and avoided the attack. He opened his eyes and continued to focus. He felt an intent behind him and immediately responded with his katana, using a Combined Attack and Dark Strike. The monster let out a scream of pain.
Tom had managed to wound the beast. There was a cut on its torso. Tom had detected the monster’s attacks with his Empathic Perception. After all, the intention to kill was also an emotion. He put all his focus on that emotion and this allowed him to predict where and when the monster would attack.
Tom continued to fight like this. After thirty minutes of fighting, he finally had a good opportunity. As soon as he sensed the monster’s killing intent, he pinned it for a second with his Monster Gaze ability. He attacked by combining hisGravity Force, Combined Attack and Dark Strike abilities. He managed to slice the monster in half.
Exhausted, after taking the monster’s D+ level essence, he thought:
"If I had fought this monster at night, I would have died. This monster was named Black Cat for a reason. Its dark fur was like a veil at night, and at night they could control their killing intent much better."
Tom stood up and prepared to leave. But just then he heard a sound. It was a small moaning sound. But it was not coming from the monster’s lair, but from the base of a tree.
Tom walked over and saw a white cat. He realized that the cat was battered and wounded. When Tom examined the beast, he realized why. This cat was the kitten of the Black Cat. Tom found traces of the presence of two Blackcats inside the den. These cats had probably sensed that their mother was dead and had run away. Tom had not paid much attention to them; they were useless to him.
This cat had mutated. When Tom looked at the cat, he saw that its body was not completely focused on speed. His body was 70% focused on speed and 30% on strength. Also, with its white fur, it was not suitable for the night. At that moment, Tom realized what had happened:
This was an animal with a fate similar to that of families who give their disabled children to orphanages. He was a useless animal for a breed as focused on speed as the black cat. The mother Caracal had thrown him out of the nest without a second thought. And it looked like he had been mauled by other baby Caracals before he was thrown out.
Tom was about to abandon this cat to its fate when he saw the beast looking at him. There was no fear in its eyes. Those eyes reminded him of someone: Someone he had been very recently. The beast had no hope of life, but its gaze was determined. They were eyes unwilling to give in to fate.
Tom’s crimson eyes and the cat’s blue eyes met. At that moment, words came out of Tom’s mouth:
"You know why you are an outcast? Because you are weak. You were born without the strong traits of your race. You are destined to be weak. You are not fit to walk in their way."
The cat bowed his head sadly at these words. When Tom saw this, his lips curled up and he let out a laugh. The white cat looked up and craned its neck, not understanding why it was laughing.
Tom opened his mouth and said:
"Pffff... Who cares about fate? If you are not fit to walk in their path, then you make your own path. If fate has chained you, break the chains! Are they blocking your path? Just find another way. If there is no other way, dig your own path! You are not weaker than them, just your path is different. Follow me and learn to be strong."
The cat looked at him with hopeful eyes. Just then a notification came through:
"White Cat offers you her loyalty. In return, a piece of his soul will become one with yours. Do you accept?"
Tom said, "Yes," and gently put the kitten on his shoulder. He liked the eyes of this beast and thought it was suitable to be his beast.
The kitten lay happily on Tom’s shoulder. Tom stroked the kitten’s head and left slowly.
